A look at the Apple Vision Pro (visionOS) simulator

Here's a look at the #AppleVisionPro visionOS simulator. Tried my best to go through everything I can.
Software looks great, but imo there's too many default iPad apps just dumped on it. I hope Apple will make native visionOS versions of them. It's a bit buggy at the moment, the first time I tried it I faced some crashes when going to the apps section in Settings.

I can see how Apple is using sound design to replace or offset the fact they don’t have haptic feedback via a physical controller

"imo there's too many default iPad apps just dumped on it" -> actually I think it's fine because basically each app window in the AR/VR environment can be interpreted as just a virtual iPad screen. And most likely the reason they chose iPad apps over Mac apps is because Mac software demands precise pointing device like a mouse or touchpad as there are many UI elements jampacked in one screen. iPad apps were optimized for touch gestures and this can double as a good minimum area for EyeSight to detect correctly what you are looking at.

To have native visionOS apps with its own unique gesture would require very precise hand gesture 3D detection which I expect to be included in later generations of Apple Vision Pro and not the first, and it will be the true game changer for AR/VR industry

I never said that they should put Mac apps on it. But I think, just like all their other platforms they should make native visionOS versions of the stock apps as well to showcase the platform. I have experimented with an iOS app I'm developing in Xcode and I have found that it hardly requires any code changes to get a native visionOS port up and running on it.

@@digigamer the problem is what differentiate a visionOS native app vs an iPad app? Currently the Vision Pro seems to offer mostly equivalents of existing 2D gestures (EyeSight instead of touching, raising your finger slightly instead of swiping for scrolling etc.). The “drag to resize window size” gesture is the same as how you resize windows on iPadOS. With only those gestures I cannot see anything that can make enough of a distinction to define a native visionOS app, something that can only be done on the Vision Pro. That was why I mentioned better 3D detection in my previous comment, with it there can be 3D gestures which is truly unique to the Vision Pro.

Very cool! One thing that popped into my mind as I saw the Freeform app is: can you draw with your eyes? Can you type with your eyes? That would be kinda wild.

For some reason when I made the simulator, my macbook air didn’t have the simulator app. So i couldn’t do anything with the visionOS simulator i made.

does your computer contain a terabyte of storage?? or was the figure displayed in settings a likely vision pro estimate?

Seems like this product measures so many things, eye movement, blood pressure, pressure in the head, and electromagnetic waves from your head, and the processor was designed to react in concert with these measurements. Sounds like it could really read your mind.
