I absolutely love the fact they aren’t billboarding the slides. I find that to be incredibly tacky on guns that are.

The Stakeout is such a great combination of "basic" and bells & whistles. It's worth it just for the brass bead and beavertail.

Once you get bit by the 1911 bug, there’s no going back. Still un-ironically the ultimate handgun imo.

The arched mainspring housing has been the mainstay since 1924. I believe it’s more recent that people prefer the flat mainspring housing. You also cannot beat the Herrett’s grips! I have the Tisas US Army pistols just because and I didn’t mess with it. I’ve got 5,000 rounds through it. It’s become quite a rattle trap but it runs. Other than that, I stick to Springfield and Colt because I like my pistols built by Americans in the USA.
@Paul_WhaleyАй бұрын
Well, the Arched MSH was certainly the norm for a long time. Going back to custom guns of the 1970s, you start to see smaller arched MSHs and flat MSH coming into vogue. Fast forward to the 1980s, and they're getting more popular, but still mostly in custom and competition guns. By the 1990s, they're the norm. Unless you go out of your way to get an A1-GI gun, nearly all of the modern guns are going to be shipped with flat MSH. Love the Herrett's. I've got much pricier WoodCaliber stocks on my two Colts, but given that they're twice the price but not massively better made, I'll keep giving Herrett's my money. As much as I'd like to give Springfield and Colt my money to keep it in the domestic market, their quality just isn't there anymore. I've been disappointed by the Springfield guns that I've owned and shot, and I've been even more disappointed by Colt. From shooting their guns, to handling them in stores, to seeing and handling their "premium" models at SHOT Show over the years, I wouldn't buy a 1911 from them. Both of my Colts are ancient at this point (159 years of age between the two of them), and even those guns weren't made to a perfect quality (not a whole lot of straight lines on them). Now, I wouldn't mind testing out a Python, which is probably on the docket for 2025. Thanks for commenting Christopher!

@ I’m sorry you’ve had bad experiences with Colt and Springfield. I just ran 1,000 rounds through a brand new Milspec and the only malfunction I had was from an out of spec Winchester White box round that wouldn’t chamber. I have not yet handled a poorly built Springfield… yet… thankfully, but I don’t discount your experience. I just bought a 2024 manufactured Government Model from Colt. First thing I did was ditch the plastic flat mainspring housing for an Ed Brown arched MSH. Then I bought fully checkered Walnut Herrett’s grips to switch out the hideous rosewood double diamond grips that don’t belong on an A1. Now I’ve got an actual “Colt’s Government Model.” I can’t speak to its reliability yet as I’ve only ran 500 rounds through it and it choked several times. I want it to work out though because I live next to Colt in Connecticut. I grew up shooting a GI Remington Rand and a 1951 Colt’s 45 Government model, so the 1911 feels odd to me without the arched mainspring housing. That’s also where I learned to love the reliably of the platform. Thanks for your reply!

I might have to get one of those. I have an introductory level RIA Commander that I did some upgrades on , but I like that it's nitride. I saw a slide that a guy tried to remove the finish on, and he had a difficult time with it, and ruined it asthetically. Harrison triggers - Are they oversized ?

@ looking forward to picking it up at the FFL. Looking to do a similar set up, have you seen the WC checkered front strap panel? They fit nicely
@Paul_Whaley2 ай бұрын
@@luciusmirkwood1634 I'm not really a fan of the WC panel. They can slide up and down the frontstrap pretty easily. I prefer the tape that I've done, as I get texture, and it's pretty solidly on there.

Which is better this or Dan Wesson ?
@Paul_Whaley2 ай бұрын
Well, it's a bit of a choice. Both guns generally use a lot of machined parts (which is a good thing), but the Dan Wesson's tend to have better finishing, and some factory-fitted aftermarket parts (magwells, safeties, etc.). That being said, the Dan Wesson guns are 4-6 times more expensive than most of the Tisas guns. Which one is better? Well, that's up for you to decide. I'd rather start with a Tisas as a base gun, and then customize it to my own selection. Thanks for commenting!

@ very cool! That’s what I’m running and Remington golden saber bonded and have had no issues! I ordered some 230 gold dot to try 👍🏼🇺🇸 I test my own ammo through heavy clothing and meat and man those HST Rock! Federal HST, Gold Dot, Underwood are my fav
@Paul_Whaley23 күн бұрын
@@Grizzlyman420 Way back when I got my first 1911 (like 2013), all I shot was 230gr hardball, and 185gr Remington Golden Saber. I knew nothing about ogive, and bullet shape, and all of the stuff that we look for now. It's crazy how a little knowledge can give you a lot of info. The three ammos that you mentioned at the end are great. I'm mostly using HSTs because I was able to get a 1000 round case of them for a steal, but would certainly use the GD or Underwood in a heartbeat.
