I also like that they were trying to do R&D on a new technology right next to two torpedoes, which one would imagine are highly explosive.
@lordmontymord870114 күн бұрын
That is definitly stupid. Thankfully Starfleet (the real Starfleet) later made guidelines for dangerous experiments: They can only be done next to the warp-core ...

After watching Alison/Lupa's video on this episode and finding out that the actors are actually covered in melted plastic wrap, I can't unsee it. It looks less like they're covered in organic substances (spider webs, fungi, male bodily fluids, etc) and more like they finished a comedic chase scene in a Coca-cola bottling plant.

The Kreetassans recently reappeared in the Star Trek: Lower Decks episode "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel" where Boimler sought to question a trio of Kreetassans on an interstellar cruise ship regarding a Starfleet admiral that went AWOL while vacationing on the ship. However, he was so distracted that he forgot about Kreetassan customs and so offended them by eating and drinking in front of them.

Lower decks being the most respectful of continuity and Canon is a shock. But, the further you get into lower decks the better it gets.

Even when it first came out, I was unhappy with the Invention of the forcefield in this episode. One of my hopes for Enterprise, was having to solve problems that didn't require a Tech-Tech of some new revolutionary new technology that was only a scientific theory a few minutes ago.
@JosephDavies16 күн бұрын
It's unfortunate that instead of solving old problems in novel ways, they simply used it as an excuse to have the NX-01 crew _invent_ the old ways to solve problems.
@boobah564314 күн бұрын
@@JosephDavies And didn't waste any time at all in getting started, since those new-fangled transporters became the solution for the pilot, after an earlier discussion about how terribly safe they weren't.

I think I just realized these guys were in an episode of the last season of "Lower Decks" ('repulsed by eating' aliens). Its been so long I forgot them, and thought they were just made up for that episode 😂

Let's be honest Lower Decks is such a bottom of the barrel show most forget it even exists.
@MrChupacabra5559 күн бұрын
@@Mate397 I personally liked it, and of all 'New Trek', it was most like the Trek fans wanted (Continuation of TNG Era Trek, Real Klingons,, no made up crap that violated Canon). I mean, in the first season I was willing to write off the whole 'Pakleds are an actual threat now' thing as just 'comedy', only to learn in the last episode of Season 1 that they were being supported by some Klingons that wanted to start a 'shadow war' with the Federation: Someone actually put thought into that. Meanwhile STD Season 1 has FTL better than Warp (which no one ever uses again), and a war with the Klingons that nearly destroys the federation....and no one ever talks about in Kirk's era or afterwards.....ugh......
@Mate3979 күн бұрын
@ I honestly saw it as just a lame Rick and Morty gag show they'd randomly portal into any second. I checked out after the first episode.

Enterprise started out with them feeling properly weak and low tech, but annoyingly they quickly suffered from power creep with hull plating just becoming shields, and characters casually inventing the phaser, transporters, replicators and, in this episode, the forcefield. These really should have been breakthrough moments, not a quick fix for an episode's writing or in my opinion; shouldn't have been added at all.
@antney774516 күн бұрын
It's very typical Star Trek, though. The only difference being that THESE groundbreaking scientific breakthroughs become permanent in Star Trek and are not just "yet another life-changing invention forgotten by the next episode".
@lordmontymord870114 күн бұрын
@@antney7745 And that it becomes standard-tech later on makes this actually worse for me. If the show involved any long-time planning they should have shown the further developement. Let's say Reed works on this tech and it gets integrated in the Enterprise on one of the occasions the ship is refitted. It's only avialable in limited places and the fields doesn't hold that long, but it is an important step in safety. That would show some progress. But nope, Reed pulls this out of his ass for this episode and that's it.

I can accept that the alien's mentality just makes too orange and blue morality to not grab the crew. What I can't is just how they react. And it feels like the other aliens aren't really utilized much beyond a vague "oh there's this big culture clash" moment and some advice you could write the crew getting some other way.
@lordmontymord870114 күн бұрын
Hehe, it's so funny that they actually used these aliens again: They are the same guys from A Night in Sickbay later on. Which also didn't really use them well ...
@Willpower-7420516 күн бұрын
Star Trek does its own version of hentai. I guess they couldn't use any of the female crew for that. Too exploitative, maybe, but it might've made this more enjoyable. But that's just me. 🖖😎👍

I'm not surprised. The thing with ENT season 1 is that they didn't have time to work on anything properly. Paramount wanted the show out as fast as possible. Of course that's just one part of the problem, considering season 1 and 2 of TNG were even worse and Voyager also started really weak.
