A Look Back At The Play-By-Play Nintendo Plushes!

Of all the Mario plushes out there, which one is the strangest? In this video, I take a look at one of the weirdest officially licensed Nintendo plush sets of all time. The company Play-By-Play released these guys in 2002 and they have remained fairly underground for far too long. Along with their Mario & Donkey Kong plushes, I also talk about their Pokemon and Sonic The Hedgehog plushes too!

I'm from Spain and I can confirm, these sets of deformed videogame characters were a thing! What's amazing is that these guys made a Crash Bandicoot plushie, but, Play by Play is the first ever plush company to do a RAYMAN OFFICIAL PLUSHIE, no one else dared doing so except these crazy people. They use the concept and design from Rayman 2,but weirdly have a Rayman 3 tag. I think it's a really surreal plushie and definitely deserves more attention!!!

Pretty sure I spotted the small versions of Toad and Bowser on a vacation to spain many years ago. They were buried under a mountain of random plushes in an overly cramped claw machine, so I sadly had no chance at winning them. I guess I'm pretty lucky to have seen them in person though, especially the elusive Toad!

I remember these!! I won a Mario cos we got him in a claw machine but his head was so big that when the claw tried to release him... he got stuck in the claw 😂 an employee had to go and release him for us 😂 when you’re a kid born before game plushes were mainstream, you’d take anything you can get! honestly, the classic Yoshi plush looks super good imo. i actually really want it now. and i think i may know why: i used to have a green Webkinz caterpillar plush when i was little, and Classic Yoshi looks very similar to it. from the color to the eyes. probably has a lot to do with nostalgia. though i still think the Classic Yosh just looks great in general

I had the Play by Play large Charmander and Bulbasaur at 0:54 ! I won them both at the Circus Circus in Vegas in 2003. They were super stiff and hard because they had *styrofoam* filling. I remember they made a weird crunching noise when I would lean on them 😖 They where pretty big though, probably big enough to be life sized. They eventually started leaking the styrofoam and my mom got rid of them while I was at school 😫

And the Star Fox set is small enough where it'd be pretty easy to make a video on, and it'd be interesting as since it seems like a World of Nintendo Slippy plush will never come out, it's the only complete set of the team.

Before they closed due to corona virus, I recently went to my local charity store and found a Play-By-Play Agumon from Digimon plush. He had his arms out, his teeth and claws were made of felt and he had plastic eyes. Aside from the t-pose and cheep detail materials, I thought he was pretty on model (For play-by-play plush standards anyway). I bought him for my sister since she’s a Digimon fan.

This is legit one of the funniest things I've ever seen! XD As for odd Mario plushes that come to my mind, it'd have to be the Koopaling knock-off plushes based of of the Senai ones. While the Senai koopalings look great, there are plenty of bootlegs that are rather... odd. They're not the strangest, but they're the first that I tend to think of. Maybe you'd like to take a look at them sometime, idk. But yeah I greatly enjoyed this video, I want that Yoshi and Funky Kong plush now lol

I own 2 different Play by Play plushies. One was Gumball from The Amazing World of Gumball and The Stay Puff Marshmallow man from Ghostbusters. I think I was extremely lucky because they look pretty good but Gumball looks like he did in Season 1 of the show and on most of the merchandise rather than Season 4 or 5. I'm trying to get a full set of Gumball Plushies.
