The Best Worst Sonic Plush of All Time - Play-By-Play Sonic The Hedgehog

There have been some bizarre Sonic The Hedgehog releases over the years, but this plush is one of the strangest by far. Let's take a look at Play-By-Play's hilariously bad Sonic plush from 2001! This officially licensed plush was released in Spain in claw machines and arcades, and gets nearly everything about Sonic's design wrong, but that makes him one of my favorite Sonic plushes of all time.
Why does he look like this? How did this get approved by SEGA? Is he even official? I discuss all of this and more in today's video.

I keep thinking that there might be a specific angle where he looks exactly like a piece of official art. Maybe a 3/4 looking slightly up at him? It just has the feel of something where they had one reference piece and translated it into 3D without really thinking about how it looked from every angle except the one the image was at.

I love Play By Play since I collect Pokemon plush. I think I read once years ago that often two of the same plush, like a Raichu or something when compared can have different shades of orange for the body. Apparently Play By Play had limited amounts of fabric so if they ran out of one color they'd use a close enough but different color to continue making more plush. That may explain why Sonic here has weird colors, like his purple soles.

I own that plush! In fact, I think the photo of the plush at a blue sheets bed (02:06)... is mine? Not really sure, since if it is, that photo is SO OLD, but I kinda remember taking it? haha Anyways, I own this plush, was in fact a claw machine price from Sega Park arcade machines, and was in fact my first Sonic Plushie, as well as one of the first Sonic merchandise released in Spain. No other plushie was officialy released at Spain before (there were some imported classic sonic ones, though), and only a few other items like Sonic cologne for kids( in fact, the very same you showed at the end of the video!) or even some sneakers. But no plushies or toys (besides MacDonalds promotion for Sonic 3). This is my favourite plushie of the ones I own ( and I have quite a few, you can take a peek at my Sonic plushie collection at my channel), it is vey close to my heart due of being the first, made me very happy at the time,, even if it was ugly. It has.. quite the charm? I also have the Play by play 50cm Sonic X line, eggman and chris plushes were hard to come by then, but I seen a few ones. No, no giant play by play SA sonic was made (sadly! I would love to own it!). Play by play still makes Sonic plushies, in fact I just bougth a 120cm one from their latest design, who is pretty cute. Might release a video soon on my channel! Great video!!!
