I still remember when the world first opened up to the outside world of Columbia and being blown away by how beautiful it was for its time. The story mind fucked me so hard as a senior or junior in high school that I was mentally affected for two days. I'm always surprised to see that it wasn't received as well as I would have expected back then, but I guess I was just so enthralled in the story and world that what many consider to be average gameplay didn't deter me at all. I always think of infinite, as a insanely tragic and lonely story of a girl.. Elizabeth.. Okay, Bioshock 1 and infinite connected, cool who cares.. many got caught up in that, the thing that blew my little peen off this earth, is that the connection between infinite and burial at sea, you as a player just casually strolling thru the story would think, you're playing with an alternative Elizabeth in Burial at sea, alternatives were Established at the end of Infinite.. But something else was established.. That the Elizabeth we followed thru infinite, didn't disappear like all the alternative Elizabeth once "comstock" died. My memory is a bit fuzzy so i can't give you all the details, why she was the only left behind but i swear to you there is the detail somewhere in the game, and about other stuff as well. For now all you have to focus on is that OUR Elizabeth that we followed thru the game is now IN BURIAL AT SEA, many years later after the main game events. SPOILER DO NOT PROCEED:::: THE VERY SAME ELIZABETH, not a alternative ! The same ass Elizabeth as we knew and talked too. Was in a different "Universe" Trying to kill the last comstock that escaped. Elizabeth Killed > Rupture comstock at the expanse of a Little Girls life > and she is ultimately killed by a big daddy> Fast forward, she's living the dream in paris, that she always talked about in the Main game events, But that dream is halted by Guilt and regret and loneliness.. > SO she went back, like she never even arrived at paris, and because she revisited that place where she dies, she loses her powers (? idk how that works rn) SO THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND ! SHE killed her OWN father, not comstock but Booker at the end of infinite ! So she and he can live together in a universe that doesn't have any of the Elizabeths or the Comstocks basically resetting the universe to before Brook could even offer up his child to himself, just to make a reality where it's just her and her father alone! So at the end everyone disappeared, EXCEPT OUR Columbia Elizabeth, and Rapture Comstock ! But even then.. Elizabeth always had the power to peak into the "Multiverse" or what.. So in a sense, her mission, hers is a duty, is her reason to live, cause she already sees a life worth living more then what she already lived, does that make sense ? Right ? She sees all the "What if's" and interacts with them .. But the MOMENT she went back to the place she dies, she cuts herself from that reality.. From the reality she fought for so long, and sacrificed so much for.. Just to amend a mistake she made at that place and moment. To realize all this broke my heart, that she always regretted what she did to rupture comstock, what she's done to the little girl for her vengeance. Her guilt ate her away as we played thru the dlc, even the spirit of Brook was haunting her mind. And remind you that was the Same Elizabeth that was so cheerful and basically like a Disney princess and even of that the better kind. To end up in the depths of despair and isolation.. In a way, i view the ending of Burial, not as heroism but as someone crashing down like a plane cause they have no other better choice to do, but to be of sacrifice to a world they can't escape anyway, The heroism was to go back, it was all about one decision. Remember ? Booker told something her thru out the game, over and over again.. That she understood the reason she came back, the reason she came back was cause she knew before she lost her power that she would die at the end.. but in turn Bioshock 1 comes to reality.. wich eventually saves the little girls.. None of the decisions she made mattered cause it was already decided the moment she went back. I remember reading comments about comforting people, that how happy she is in the reality with her own with Booker, but then i know.. That she really died there. Perhaps the only Elizabeth to actually die, and alone.. It wasn't a heroes death, Not even at the end did she knew what she was doing, but a sacrifice nonetheless.. I hope if someone reads my little fan geeking, i hope that i broke some new ice for you in this story.. Listen to "You belong to me" from the OST, and think about the time Elizabeth danced with Rupture Booker.. The eyes of someone that hated to love..

Something that maybe I misinterpreted about Burial at Sea Part 2 that I remember really disliking was establishing the way the Big Daddies were imprinted on was through “kindness” or “love”, as I thought that completely undermined the point of the Big Daddy. The entire point of the Big Daddy and Little Sister was the horror of modern science constructing a bastardization of familial love in order to commodify it, manipulating the youth and dehumanizing the workers in the process. Having the “missing piece” of that scientific process be “actual kindness” completely undermines the inhumanity of the relationship that was core to the horror and message of their false relationship.

It was literally stated in the original Bioshock that the little sisters were drawn to the big daddies due to their pheromones not because the big daddies needed the little sisters Adam to survive. According to a few of Alexander's audio diaries in 2, Suchong is dead before Delta is created, who we see walking around at the New Year's Eve party. Two problems that I have with Bioshock Infinite that drags it down for me. The overdone "I am no longer the naive girl, my suffering made me I am a hard bitten badass woman" and the way the narrative short changes the Vox. Being kind to other people and looking for the best in a bad situation are not signs of immaturity, in fact seeing the bright side of the world even when it disappoints you is an important skill for a well rounded healthy adult. Having Elizabeth become cynical is not a sign that she has become strong, she was already that. Having her "become a woman" because she killed someone and become a vengeful is horrible because it implies that you have to become cruel and experience horrible things to become an "Adult". Second the Vox are treated like a palate swap. People do not go from "wanting to be free of slavery" to Child killing mob at the drop of a hat. Daisy is a potentially interesting character turned into a cartoonish villain to keep the "both sides" narrative that the series is famous for.
@chesterstevens88702 жыл бұрын
I see where you're coming from regarding Elizabeth; although at the same time I can also see how, given everything that happens to her and Booker in such a short timespan, those events would have a profound and probably negative effect on her. It's hard to maintain the "Disney Princess" mindset when your life goes from one of cloistered study to rampant violence and corruption in a matter of hours. Regarding the Vox, though; that's makes a lot more sense from a historical context. Peasant revolts tend to be extremely brutal, and it's not always the fault of the leaders for those revolts. I mean, you only need to look at Russia's dekulakization to see just how barbaric a proletariat uprising can be once mob rule kicks in.

@@chesterstevens8870 The Kulaks were something that Stalin invented in order to give himself a scapegoat, that is not an example of mob rule. It is an example of a authoritarian eliminating his opposition. Pol Pot or the french revolution fit the example you are trying to set better. Even then it does not exactly fit. Pol Pot was an Ultranationalist as much as he was a Communist and the French Revolution was an organized blood bath. I still have a great deal of skepticism when people say any attempt to amend society for the better is always bad. especially when the one saying it is a white heterosexual man with a high paying job and that is the problem with the "failed utopia" genre. It is saying that any idealism is foolish and any attempt to do different than what we have now will inevitable lead to disaster. Bioshock is actually one of the better examples of "Failed Utopia" in that it over all well written, even if it plays with problematic conventions sometimes. Still it is cynical and seems to take these clearly evil societies at face value. We should be cheering at the fall of the Dystopian racist city and corporate owned tax shelter masquerading as Atlantis, but we are supposed to be crying because these awful people managed to create pretty buildings and some tech that is neat. These are not "Failed Utopias", they are Dystopias that the writers think are worth trying to save. Though granted that might be just a subjective opinion. As for Elizabeth, I get it. I may not like it, but I can get it. I would actually have had her grow to understand that the world is not perfect but still has good in it and regained a little optimism if we ever ran into her again. (what about Burial at sea?) I don't count that because a Noir set in Rapture is a fascinating concept that is ruined by trying to tie it in with the Columbia stuff. How old would booker be by the time of Bioshock 1, ninety? Their entire concept violates the laws of thermodynamics. Bioshock 3 is the result of someone trying really hard to create something that sounds smart. Good thing for them that 99% of people assumed it was so smart that they didn't bother to think about what it all meant... You're a player, in a game where there is an infinite amount of universes... Try to think about the implications... What have you accomplished? What was your role? Did you really made an impact? What if you fail? What if you succeed? What if you don't play the game? Really, give that some thoughts, you'll realise how fake-smart it all is. Bioshock 3 became my prime example of laziness since I played it. Remember the reveal of the multiverses? Yep, they copy pasted the light house... CTRL+C, CTRL+V... You play in 2 universes? The blue flags... ... ... ... are now red! The entire premise of the game is multiverses, that's all they managed to do with that?! Yeah, you can say the civil war was won by the other side etc, but at the end of the day, they took away all your gear mid-game, changed the color of the flags and called that a parallel universe... I'm sorry but the reward for losing everything you have isn't worth it. We play Bioshock for the premise, the gameplay and the ending. Bioshock 3 has an very good premise, they f*cked up the gameplay for the story and the story ended up being pompous. The ending insulting, in every way possible. The ending just feels like nothing to me. Our Booker is drowned, which despite not being the Prime Booker (as he is from after the decision, not before), kills every Booker that was about to become Comstock; the other versions of Elizabeth cease to exist; and every other version of Booker continues life as per normal - never faced with the choice of giving up their Anna to Comstock, because Comstock never exists. Okay...? The story just tries to be so clever, that I ended up not caring. I started to stop caring as soon as our Elizabeth said we'd leave her (at the time our) reality, and wouldn't come back. There's no consequence in a story like that, and neither Elizabeth or Booker seem to at all care about something that should be pretty impactful. If the world has no continuity, then the characters have to do all the work, and they do none. They don't care one bit, and they continue to not care each time. Booker goes to at least 5 realities (possibly 6 if Old Elizabeth equally can't open tears to specific realities), and doesn't blink an eye. This Booker is 1 of at least 123 (we don't know if the tally chalkboard was the first one), so either 123 Booker have been to that reality, but only 1 got to Elizabeth; the Twins have been to 123 realities to try this at least 123 times; or a combination of both (multiple realities and multiple versions of Booker). But with an infinite number of realities, there's a infinite number of the Twins, so all of this happens an infinite number of times... So, an infinite number of Booker were drowned to kill an infinite number of Comstock. Different versions of Booker that might be female; have an arm missing; be a different nationality; etc. This must be the case because there are infinite realities. All we see in the game is a leaf on a twig of a branch of a tree in an infinite forest. And it all becomes so abstract that I just don't care. There's nothing personal anymore. And that's my problem with the story: it's infinite. Sure, it's clever, and it probably mostly works, maybe, but to what end? Is Infinite a better game because of this chosen story? Not to me. 'Lives; lived; will live. Dies; died; will die' encapsulates the nihilism of the game, with it basically saying that none of it matters because all outcomes are true somewhere. If you're not looking on the individual level, which this game decides not to do as soon as Elizabeth leaves her world without a care, then it doesn't matter. All possible bad (and good) versions of Comstock from all possible versions of Booker are gone? Fine. I didn't meet, or play as, any of those versions. There's no personal consequence. They literally might as well have had Elizabeth push a button that just deletes all versions of Comstock, because it's just as emotionally detached.

Again, the player does not win because of what he/she does, but because the player happened to spawn in the correct universe. The player is meaningless in this... game! Would have been better to at least put the player in a universe where the protagonist is supposed to fail. Not doing so means that you achieve the same result by not playing the... game... There is a meta-narrative that could come out of that, but honestly, the game is too average for me to give it the benefit of the doubt. Can't bring myself to try to make sense of the ramblings of someone who tries to sound smart. I can use my time better trying to understand what actual smart people are saying. Aslo, a reminder that the game takes everything away from you mid-game. Replaces all the blue flags with red ones and calls that an "alternate universe"... How fµcking lazy is that... Which shows that there are only tiny variation between each universe which makes the whole thing even stupider because it means that the smallest difference creates a new universe... Basically, creating an infinite amount of energy from next to nothing. Just plain stupid.

The way I interpret Infinite's base game ending is that the Booker in the post-credit scene is either a different Booker who inherited all of our Booker's memories of his adventure in Columbia, hence his sudden panic and wanting to know whether Anna was in her crib or not, or he IS our Booker who was somehow given a mulligan from drowning and likewise remembers everything that happened up until then. As for Elizabeth, we know that every Elizabeth except Elizabeth-Prime is gone right after drowning Booker-Prime, and we also know what happens to Elizabeth-Prime after Burial At Sea Part 2, but we don't know if anyone's in the crib at all or not. I have no evidence, but I'd like to think there's one baby Anna in the crib who never has to grow up to *become* Elizabeth in there, so she gets a chance at a normal life. Unrelated, but as for why you fight a Bouncer as the final boss of Burial At Sea Part 1, the answer is because the events of BioShock 2 aren't canon to the events of Infinite. Going along with the whole multiverse thing, you can say that BioShock 1, 2, and the Fall of Rapture novel are one universe, while BioShock 1, Infinite, and its DLC are a separate universe. I as a fellow fan of BioShock 2 much prefer the former since it's just a better and more cohesive story.

I understand everyones perspective on the story, but for me; Infinite is a game I've grown to dislike. At least when compared to 1 and 2, the story being the main culprit. Bioshock to me has always been about debating morality, ethics and political discourse. Infinite lacks this, therefore creating less substance to the story. Elizabeth and Booker are fine characters, but weak when compared to Andrew Ryan, Suchong and Tennenbaum at least from my POV. The multiple universes concept feels ham fisted to create a seemingly more complex story, and to help service the twist, rather than create substance for the story. It all feels a mess, especially when compared to the incredibly interesting story seen in the gameplay videos from 2011/2012. The game changed a lot and not arguably for the better, Infinite is a decent game. But 1 and 2 are FAR superior in literally every way, imo.

It was when we started going dish that goal with him I just had a hard time taking the story of the game seriously. Even if Booker didn’t fully understand the world hopping, I felt like Elizabeth should have known enough to speak up and correct his misunderstanding of things, even if it was just for Booker to say something like “maybe we get lucky and this Daisy takes the same deal” And for that matter, we don’t even know that he has any reason to believe this Daisy has an airship to trade him for those weapons.

I think it was a very great video overall, and I respect your views on the game and the DLC, and mostly agree on everything. For the DLCs, I am in the same state as you as I think it indermines the main story and plot of the main game, yet, I liked them, not for the gameplay though, it is not great in that regards, but because it is a very personal story for Elizabeth, the DLCs is about her alone, even the first one when we play booker. The story of Bioshock 1, 2 and 3 is personal but also link to the fate of the city by taking down the big chief of the city, by removing them of their power. To put it another way, personal closure for the main character is linked to the big chief fate and the fate of the city in the main games. It is not the case in the DLCs. It is just a personal story. Well, one might say that Elizabeth has an important part of the fall of rapture since she iniates a sequence of events that will lead to its fall. It is true, but she will not see it to the end, she died before it happens. Also for us, the player, we already know what is going to happen to the city of Rapture, so the point of the DLCs is elsewhere, and she said it in the begining of episode 2 "Why ? Why did I choose to come here ?" (something like that). The DLCs are here to tell us who she has become after the event of Infinite, and while the first episode shows us her dark side, and may have tricked us to think that after the event of Infinite she has become violent, uncarrying (after all, she was ready to take the risk to make Sally burn, and all of this was for making Booker remember who he really is, and have a sort of revenge on him), the second episode gives us a more noble and bright side of her, she is not transform completely into that cynical person that she seems to have become, she still has positive human values. I am not a fan of the choices regarding the little sisters in Bioshock 1 while a lot of people loved it, I think it is not interesting, it does not change the gameplay drastically, and it does not lead to different narratives through the game, it just changes the ending, the final cutscene (and some minors dialogues in Tenenbaum's lair), and there is only one ending that I love and that make sens to me, the one when Jack saves the little sister, the other one is just completely off and was, if I recall correctly, something the publisher asked for. Now, the ending of the DLC saves that for me, it is not just an episode that tell us that Elizabeth was ready to endure the torture for Sally and so revealing that she cares for her, someone she doesn't know but have empathy for, but also more important than that, she has faith in Jack, also someone she doesn't know, but Jack is not anybody to us, it is us, the player, so in a way, she has faith in us, she has faith that we will make the best choices for Sally and the other little sisters. This is how I interpret the very last part of the DLC and It makes the ending strong and the whole episodes so worth it. For the main plot of Infinite regarding the multiverse. I don't like any interpretations that implies that Infinite has choosen the Many Worlds interpretation, that is when a choice appears, the universe split and that each split contains the different possible choices. There is nothing at any point of the main game (the DLC kinda messes with this) that implies Many World interpretation. The main game states that something that can be call a multiverse exist, and this multiverse is best described by the sentence "Constants and Variables"...and that's it. For example: when Booker first met with Elizabeth in the library, she is holding a book call "The principles of Quantum Mechanics" , the event takes place in 1912, Quantum Mechanic was not already formalised. On top of that, the book was written by Rosalind Lutece, so for me, the game tries to make clear that this is not the Quantum Mechanics of our world as we know it but something somewhat similar, yet, not completely. I think people want to take anything regarding multiverse through the scope of Many world interpretation with branching diagrams and everything. While most of the time it is appropriate to do so, I think it is not with this game. This is why I don't like when people try to explain the ending by using diagrams. At the end, Elizabeth was able to create a state where all Bookers and all Comstocks are one and the same, and therefore killing that one person here, means killing all of them and the universe will adapt to it. that's it, that is all we need to understand, Elizabeth has the ability to reset everything and she does it. Trying to go with diagrams will lead to an unsatisfying ending (at least to me). Regarding the post ending sequence, it is maybe a way to tell us that she failed. But it may also be a way to tell us that she succeeded. It may also be another Booker that didn't go to the Baptism at all. One could argue at that point that I am using the "Constants and Variables" sentence as a way out to not think further and to not acknowledge the problem of the coherence regarding the sequences of the plot and so forth. I agree that by not trying to go further that "Constants and Variables", one could feel the meaning of the ending a bit shallow, it is nonetheless a trade off that I accept to take because it leads toward one of the most beautiful and poetic ending that I can think of (at least to me). That "Constants and Variables" sentence does not just explain the universe of the game (narratively) but can encompass much more. It takes into account the different experiences that different players would have. Each players will go into the same scripted events, the same narrative beats, the same levels etc..., those are the Constants. Players will also have different playthroughs to one another, one might take this rifle, another will choose to upgrade that power at that time, another will have a low amount of bullets in that specific sequence while others will have much more, players will experience different feeling throughout the game etc..., those are the Variables. It also allows to put in light the very structure of a Bioshock game (there is always a lighthouse, always a city, always a man like said in the game), but there is more, it allows to put in light the very structure of many video games, (there is always a city, a place where the player explores ; there is always a lighthouse, a way to go to that city, the very beginning of a new adventure ; there is most of the time a man, an antagonist, a rival)(interpretation taken from Leadhead). But it doesn't stop there, Bioshock Infinite is a video game, it is program, a series of coded instructions that is made by using constants and variables, so the very fabric of the game is made of constants and variables and it is so feeting that in the narrative of the game, the law of physics of the game world is govern by constants and variables. But also, every game is a program and therefore is made out of constants and variables. So, how many worlds to explore, how many experiences ,how many games can be made ? Well, the game answers it, it is infinite. So, this is why I like that interpretation because when I look at the lighhouses at the end, I don't just see the world of Bioshock Infinite and its differents "versions" or the different Rapture, but I also see the many games that has been and will be, It is the promise of many world to explore, to be a part of, the different experiences that different players can have playing something similar, and all of this thinks to "Constants and Variables".

@@chickentenders3018 Bioshock Infinite is barely a Bioshock game in the first place. The story doesn't work well and stumbles all over the place. The gameplay is a straight downgrade from Bioshock 2 both in mechanics and level design. Bioshock fans have realized these things on retrospect and have been criticiszing it lately. I've never heard a youtuber say the game is trash and not worth playing like you claim. Maybe some random people on the internet have but it's not like everyone acts as if it's the worst game ever made. When Infinite fans gush all over Bioshock Infinite's story it's hard to resist calling them out. The story heavily depends on being confusing and trying to be deep. Colombia is barely explored as a city and is just a backdrop. Comstock is just a racist bad guy who doesn't even come close to compare to Ryan or Lamb and the game is so focused on Booker and Elizabeth that nothing else really matters. So why is it even a Bioshock game? I don't think Bioshock Infinite is trash, neither does everyone else. But it has a lot of irredeemable flaws. So a few clarifications/my own speculation on some of the plot holes you brought up in BaS: 1) One thing that's easy to get confused on is that there were actually two basically independent projects to make Big Daddies: Gil Alexander and Suchong. Gil Alexander worked for Fontaine and was the first to show success with the Alpha series but his BDs could only be bonded to a single specific sister. The Bouncers and Rosies were Suchong's though. He was sort of playing both sides of the fence, but I think publicly he worked for Ryan, hence why he wasn't exiled to the Department Store. The type of Big Daddy bond that Elizabeth helped create wasn't starting from scratch. Suchong had thrown the proverbial kitchen sink of chemical/biologic/psychologic bonding techniques at his Big Daddies but nothing was overcoming the Little Sister's fear of the Suchong's Big Daddies, and he couldn't make his Big Daddies care about the sisters. (He said as much in an audio log). It probably has to do with if you make these giants have zero self-preservation instincts so they'll fight to the death, it doesn't work to try and use self-preservation as a bond. They just don't care about dying without the sisters' Adam. When Elizabeth told the Sisters to give him Adam, it wasn't that it's a plot hole that the Big Daddies were supposedly retconned to not have any splicing when they were spliced to the gills originally; it's the Big Daddies were a) as part of the as yet unsuccessful attempts to bond them, Suchong had made BDs dependent on a special type of Adam they could only get from the LSs and b) even if that hadn't been the case, Adam has a healing effect and he was injured, so he literally needed Adam to get back on his feet. 2) This kitchen sink of bonding techniques meant that there was probably some success in bonding; it just wasn't consistent. In E2 I think we see a blueprint of the grappling drill used by the BD who killed Booker/Comstock and off-screen Elizabeth, and the reason it didn't appear in BS1 or 2 is because the mix of gases used to shoot the drill across a room was making the Big Daddies unstable, so the blueprints said to discontinue use. This unstable aggression probably interacted with the failed bonding techniques to push the BD to protect Sally like he was supposed to but also caused him to turn on Elizabeth despite her not manhandling Sally. 3) The explanation for how Elizabeth lost her powers is kinda fuzzy and doesn't quite pass the fridge test, but basically if you're in the omniscient/reality hopping state the Luteces and Elizabeth are in, the rules are apparently that if you as a quantum god are killed in a reality, you're fine but the price to return to that same reality where you died is to give up your quantum superpowers. It's likely that Elizabeth saw through all the doors the only way to turn Rapture Booker back into Comstock, to make him remember what he forgot, was to take him through the events of BaS E1 which would ultimately end in Elizabeth's death. No big, it's not like she wanted to return to that particular reality. But after she did what she did, the guilt of using Sally as bait and leaving her to her fate at the hands of the splicers ate at her so much she had to make it right, despite it costing her her powers and ending in her murder by Atlas.

There are a couple videos out there talking about how the removal of all choice is intentionally in stark contrast to bioshock 1 and 2. 21:15 in the video. In Bioshock you play as jack, made as a slave, but eventually becomes someone who can make their own choices and get different endings. Where as for all the individuality in Bioshock, you never really get any choices intentionally. Every decision you make means nothing in the end, and you were always going to end up at the same place. The thing that’s always felt off that brakes the game is elizabeth final choice when she kills booker she doesn’t do enything cosmicly due to the fact she has now made the decision to drown booker will make it so now there’s more time lines where booker fights back, one where he servives the drowning, one where a meteor hits her in the head killing her e.g the game says about choice but makes it so you have none and even elizabeth who’s ment to have the power of choice has none or brakes what thay try to make choice in a multiverse isn’t real it has been done, hasn’t, will and won’t happen so killing booker and going to rapture on her part isn’t a choice it’s a composery action

The definition of average is, "a number expressing the central or typical value in a set of data, in particular the mode, median, or (most commonly) the mean, which is calculated by dividing the sum of the values in the set by their number." Let's say there were 1000 games released only in 2013. Can you name 499 games better than Bioshock Infinite? Donthat for tye 2010 decade. Can you name 4,999 games better than Bioshock Infinite? This is what ther word average means. The game is not average.

Infinite ending is amazed to see for the first time, but when I tried to play it again to see if I missed any clues along the way, I found the process to reach the ending was so boring, I gave up half way. This is the worst of the Bioshock series. I feel sorry the series end at a bad note, and we probably will never see another sequel.

I honestly dont even consider infinite as a part of the series since it has literally nothing in common with previous 2 games Its just 6 hour linear shooter with story that has more plotholes that cheese in my fridge

To be quite honest, I loved Bioshock 1 and Bioshock 2 because of the gameplay. I didn't really care for the story. Which is why I preferred Bioshock 2 over Bioshock 1. When I played Bioshock Infinite, I hated it. It felt nothing like the Bioshock I played before. Upgrading weapons wasn't satisfying, and I could not manipulate my environment. I loved taking my time and hacking every camera and sentry to serve me, so I could turn an area that was meant to be a trap to become a trap for my enemies. With Bioshock Infinite, I felt nothing of that. I hated the final boss fight where we could use the big bird because I couldn't find a place to buy ammo, and because you are only limited to two weapons, you stick to the most powerful weapons, even though their ammo is rare, because you may not find them anymore. Also, I didn't understand the story whatsoever. When it came time to try the DLC, I uninstalled the game. I wasn't not going through all of that again.

It really annoys me when the line, "You don't like it because you don't understand it." Gets used, because it feels like such a cop out. Just because something is Complex, doesnt make it Good. You can have a really complicated story and have it just be a crappy story.

The fact that killing the Booker you play as deletes all Elizabeths (which apparently it doesn't even end up doing that) it's moronic, considerong all the infinite timelines babble 5 minutes before that

I’m fine with the infinite’s ending giving the series more possibilities of alternate plots, but that dlc is so unnecessary and corny for making anna be the most vital and important person in the whole series to the point of retconning a good established story to bioshock 1 n 2’s storytelling.

So lemme get this straight...Booker dies before becoming Comstock, but he still gets Anna and Annabelle still dies. So now does that mean that Robert Lutece never appeared to help him with his debts? Does Anna never become Elizabeth as we know her since Comstock never existed to capture her? And if so, does that essentially mean that this entire game and everything that happens in it ultimately mean nothing as it all gets erased? So.......its essentially just the time traveler's dead grandpa paradox but with extra steps? If someone can explain this to me in a way that makes sense, then I'm open to hearing it, but it has never sat right with me even when I first played it. Every time I replayed this game, I could follow the story fine up until Booker and Elizabeth start dimension hopping. Then things just got too confusing, and I can't help but feel like the writers relied on this confusion too much to make the players think that the rug was being pulled out from under them, and then they'd mindlessly praise this game for "subverting your expectations" or something else equally strange. Then my brother watched the ending, and immediately showed me the "How Does King Crimson Work???" video, since it reminded him of that. And that sums it up perfectly. As of right now, I do not believe that the writers fully thought this story or its ending through, and that combined with the gameplay leaves me very disappointed with this game. Don't get me wrong, I still think this game has lots of value, one great example being the political dynamics between the Founders and the Vox Populi, and how the oppressed can be just as bad as their oppressors. That I feel is a truly relevant point that many in the political world today need to understand. Just because you or your ancestors have been oppressed before doesn't excuse destruction or violence of any kind, even in retaliation, as was seen with how far the Vox took things in this game. If you like this game, good for you. Heck, I even find myself replaying this and still including it in my BioShock marathons despite everything I just said. But the main storyline and the gameplay are not enough to elevate this to the same level as BioShock 1 and 2 for me. Excellent video! Great job!

I always felt the bioshock infinite was never fitting of the title of a "bioshock" game. BioShock is about a 1950's city built on the seafloor. While bioshock infinite is a game about a city in the sky with the aesthetic of the early days of America. I feel maybe they should've marketed it as "from the creators from bioshock" or something so they could at the very least say it had some association to the series without making it part of the BioShock mythos.

So from what I got during my play through and now your commentary, this is how I think quantum mechanics work within the Bioshock series. Anna is super imposed throughout the multiverse due to her pinky being cut off by a dimensional tear. The Lutece twins are similar due to their experiments with the Lutece machine. This allows them to travel between dimensions at will, while also being immune to the adverse mental effects of cross dimensional travel; memory loss, insanity, etc. This could also explain how Booker didn’t lose his mind after going to a universe where he died, perhaps it’s possible that Anna is able to collapse imposed objects into a single instance, similar to how she pulls items and parts of the level out form other universes using tears, which would allow Booker to basically maintain a constant state as he travels with Anna, whereas everyone else is stuck between several states of existence, which is what causes the insanity. This also explains the ending of the game, as Anna has become so powerful she’s able to collapse not only instances of objects, but entire universes onto each other into a single point, allowing her to erase comstock and Pinkerton Booker. The reason Booker can’t remember Anna or comstock at the beginning is because when the Lutece twins brought him to the Columbia reality, he became super imposed, his brain being filled with several different memories of different versions of himself, namely Comstock. Due to how the Brain biological functions to make sense of information, It made up the “bring us the girl and wipe away to debt” in order to make sense of it all, (at least that’s how I think it’s explain in the story). This was done on purpose by the Lutece twins as apart of their experiment. Now on to how one comstock escaped the purge. I believe that, in the absence of game, they’re not necessarily traveling to alternate realities, they’re traveling to different **timelines** that exist within the same universe, this is what the Lutece twins refer to as “perspective”, not traveling to several alternate realities, rather looking at the same one differently, sort of like a prism. The reason why one comstock got away was because they went to rapture, which seems to be in a different reality completely separate from Columbia, allowing them to escape being collapsed along with the other versions. While I think these are decent explanations, I would have helped with Infinite did a better job at explaining these concepts rather than being so vague about them. If infinite was structured like the first game, I can easily imagine multiple levels based around explaining how quantum mechanics work, similar to how each part of Rapture explained how it functioned. I just wish we got that attention to detail, as if Columbia, while being beautiful, lacks what made Rapture so interesting and lived in.
@icecreamsunday57372 жыл бұрын
I feel like it would have been a good idea to focus the dlcs more on Columbia rather than rapture because while I love bioshock Infinite I didn't really connect with Columbia as much as I did with rapture and i feel like spending more time in Columbia could have fixed that.

You mentioned how the DLC was unessisary but it not only finishes some of the meta connections between the three BS games but gives some story answers to questions you had. For instance, you ask why Daisy wiped the blood in herself. We learn in the DLC that Daisey wasn't as off the rails as she seemed and never intended to kill the kid. She was being guided by the Luteces to help Elizabeth on the right path to get to the version of herself they needed. They knew for her to become the Elizabeth from that reality she needed to get a taste of blood herself and thus kill Daisy. This would be achieved by the justification that Daisy was going to kill the kid. the scene we are a fly is the wall, too, has them debriefing this to Daisy, who doesn't want to kill the kid. They yell her it isn't nessisary, just that Elizabeth be convinced she WILL. That's why Daisy seems to go completly bloodthirsty and out of character from nowhere. Just like with Elizabeth's bad crying earlier, she is acting to get Elizabeth to panic and murder her rashly in an attempt to save the kid. Elizabeth had no idea this was a farce or that the Luteces were pulling the strings. Daisy was just fulfilling THEIR orders to ensure the outcome they promised her would happen. She had to be a martyr to the unwitting real hero so she could later find the strength to do what was needed no matter what. Lose her innocence and find her resolve to end a life for the greater good. It's a real surprising narrative moment that both redeems Daisy's character and confirms what we already suspected..the Lutences were even more involved than they let on. They orchestrated everything but on a grander scale and across a lot more dimensions in deep detail. It's very eerie and causes Elizabeth to seem even more like Jack from the first game in that everything she does is guided by the pupetmastwrs, even when she seems the one with all the power.

I left a comment on the BioShock 2 video saying I was going through these games for the first time. I just got done completing BioShock Infinite, and the ending only left me confused, especially for a couple of things. I got even more confused when a buddy of mine said to make parallels with BioShock 1, and that Fink was Atlus, which means Fink is also Fontaine, Comstock is Andrew Ryan, and Elizabeth is Jack. That only made everything even more confusing as I had no idea what he meant and what that meant. I'm really hoping this video helps me understand better. Edit: I understand a lot better what happened at the end of BioShock Infinite, but Burial at Sea episode 2 is… odd. Not because I thought it was bad, but because it throws Elizabeth into the story of Rapture's downfall, all because of the reason of feeling guilty about using Sally just to kill Comstock. I didn't think about it, but I really do enjoy that Infinite is its own story. Have both games be set in the same universe, but I'm not a huge fan of the reason for a lot of the technology existing in both games, is because Elizabeth decided to open a tear just to get revenge against Comstock. Atlus only knows the "Would you kindly?" Phrase to use against Jack, because Elizabeth. A buddy of mine likes this because it ties all of the games together into a neat bow, but that's honestly not necessary. I don't know, in the end I think it was just okay, but if I ever return back to play BioShock 1, a lot of the information I learn about kinda loses it's meaning because Elizabeth was the reason for a lot of it happening. Atlus' plan only happens the way that it does, not because he took the initiative to make things happen and overthrow Andrew Ryan, but because he saw a window of opportunity in Elizabeth, because Ghost Booker told her what to do. BioShock is still ultimately, in my opinion, the best and is my favorite.

Honestly, Infinite's story made me furious with it's story. They try to make a story using themes of parallel universes (my favourite theme) and time travel, however they fail to execute it, because of lack of understanding. What I mean by this? Well, infinite possibilities equals infinite universes, right? So Elizabeth killing Booker, would be pointless, because in a different universe she didn't kill him (doesn't matter what reason, again infinite possibilities), same with Booker killing Comstock, it would be pointless. That's not all! The game forgets (or probably doesn't know) about the Grandfather Paradox! Meaning Elizabeth killing Booker is not only pointless, but also dumb! And that is just the tip of the ice berg. TL:DR It has big themes, yet it either does them poorly and or strait up Terribly!

I have interpret the end of Infinite is the following, after Elizabeth and her alternate selves killed Booker, ending the branching timeline mess and the entire chaos that happened in Infinite got reset but with some major changes. Rosalind Lutece managed to stabilized the tears that it can no longer sterilize someone after frequent uses, but also jump to any point on their own timeline meaning Comstock Booker had to put up with doesn't need to kidnap Booker's baby daughter since he can sire his own child, while the Booker we play is back in his own timeline no longer a gambler and alcoholic and has not only baby Anna peacefully sleeping in her crib but also his wife alive and well.

I will always be baffled by how people think this game is "great" when it's a mess and the plot is bad. It's got good moments here and there, but it's lazy. Brings up heady ideas and does nothing with them, and that seems to trick people into thinking it's profound when it's just a reason to keep the plot moving. The 2-weapon limit is awful, too. Nothing in this game makes me look back on it fondly. Everything is a frustrating mess.
