Thank you so much for this video. I am focusing in on this subwoofer to purchase. By you taking it apart and giving critique analysis, I am appreciative of you. I feel much more informed in my decision.

Driver/Sub isnt the problem the amp is, these drivers can handle much more than the stock amp it comes with

Can you open up the Polk audio psw505 subs and the Polk audio HTS12 subwoofer
@Pete.across.the.street Жыл бұрын
NIce. I am interested in how that would sound with the new sub. IDK if that amp has enough juice to push it or if that brace will get in the way of the magnet. I bought 4 of the 12-inch model when they were on sale at costco for $150each for a home theater. I time-aligned them and EQd them with a minidsp and they sound a hell of a lot better than out of the box. I just bought that REL sub also. Looking forward to the teardown.

Thanks! I agree! These Klipsch subs are absolute bargains on sale, but the driver's in them do leave a lot to be desired in terms of detail, definition, and dynamics. I won't go into too much detail because I plan on making a video of the upgrade (which I'm done with), but the difference that this new driver made was down right incredible! This upgraded Klipsch sub now gives my REL HT 1205 and SVS SB-3000 a run for its money in terms of chest pounding bass. I think the main reason for this is the cabinet design because one is sealed and the other is ported. Obviously with a ported design you get more output with less, and this Martin Logan driver definitely delivers even with the wimpy 150w rms amp. This was a very fun project to do and wasn't too much trouble to make the new driver fit. Thanks for watching!

@@generationbehindhifi thanks. I might look in to upgrading the drivers on mine in the future

@@Pete.across.the.street Hi Pete! I don't think you will be disappointed with a driver upgrade. I'm guessing the drivers in your 12" Klipsch subs are like mine -- no vented pole piece, wimpy excursion, and tiny magnet assembly. If so, just about anything is better. Let me know what driver you decide to go with. I would be interested in hearing how it sounded after the upgrade. I think Martin Logan makes a 12" Dynamo sub driver that will probably drop in with little modification.

@@generationbehindhifi I couldn't find anything on ebay worth while. A decent new driver costs $200. At that price I might as well buy a few more rel ht1205's instead of upgrading the klipsch.
@generationbehindhifi Жыл бұрын
@@Pete.across.the.street Yeah, at the point you might as well just buy another HT 1205. However still keep an on eBay because you might get lucky like I did. The sellers asking $150 to $200 for their used drivers rarely sell.

the amplifier module of my yamaha subwoofer ns sw300 weighs 10.5 pounds, I thought the klipsch one was more robust
@generationbehindhifi Жыл бұрын
Holy cow! The plate amplifier weighs 10.5lbs? That amplifier must not be a class D design and majority of the weight is from the transformer?
@JoJanDiezel Жыл бұрын
@@generationbehindhifi it is class AB and also has big radiator. Totally unnecessary, since class D handle better power headroom, which is important, especially for HT subwoofer.
