I love Colonial American decor! One of the most beautiful eras in history.

Thank you for including the bit about how earlier and very fine furnishings from the public rooms made their way to private rooms. We do the same today as we buy newer things and keep up with styles. People (of means) in the 18th century were no different.

That bright green wallpaper recalls Scheele's Green, the very popular arsenical dye that made so many Victorian rooms poisonous. Do we know what dyes and processes were used on the walls of the Chintz Room?

Love the colors in this room. Question. ..after Martha died, did Nelly still live at Mt. Vermon? Where did she go, if not?

Please do better with sound next time. Have the presenters wear mics. This subject matter deserves better.

Its a shame, the founding fathers intended us to be a Predominantly Agrarian society........over the last 150 years we have become the exact opposite of what we were intended to be. Absolutely Beautifull house. I wish that in the USA when you have historic house musems that like the UK the curator/caretakers could actually live on site and given a small stipend to live off of...you know to buy food and other small expenses I would apply..i doubt I would get the job bc all I have is a High school Diploma...but my knowledge of history and daily life is extensive. I think for somebody like myself to live and die in a musem would be very fitting and I am only 27 LOL !

The sounds is so bad it's criminal guys. I've watched too many like it that are awful like you're recording voice with an old cell phone.

Gee, I wonder whose tax dollars paid for all those expensive items?

Zero. Mount Vernon is privately owned and operated by the Mount Vernon Ladies Association and has been since they acquired it from the Washington family in 1858. They have never accepted a single dime from the government. You can learn more about the MVLA on our website: www.mountvernon.org/preservation/mount-vernon-ladies-association/
