Explore Mount Vernon, George Washington's beloved Virginia estate. When he wasn't off leading the army during the American Revolution, or in NYC & Philadelphia during his presidency, he was here. In this video I describe how a typical day for Washington might have gone. I show you the mansion, the grounds, the tombs, Washington's dentures, his favorite breakfast food, and more :) Don't forget to check out the links below!

He may have died from all the bloodletting too. He lost about 40% of his blood. But who knows. His doctors were at his bedside, a third younger doctor came along. He told the two older doctors that there was a new technique called a tracheostomy. They wouldn't let him do it. If that had been done on Washington early enough he probably would have survived. Considering what he did for this country, it really sucks that he died 2 weeks before the next century.

My wife and I visited Mt Vernon about 5 years ago. What a beautiful place. You can feel the history in your soul. Arlington is also a great place to visit.

You have a wonderful way of presenting history. It was so interesting to hear what you considered important. The discussion of how Washngton had to fight with his dentures was brilliant. That is something I have heard anyone assess, and I think you are clearly correct. That was a great insight. That focus would be worth getting a grant from Mt Vernon and working with modern dentists to discuss in far greater detail. Many mention the dentures, but you made them real things with big problems.

Thank you for this comment. I had never considered applying for grants from historical institutions before! I would have assumed that sort of thing was reserved for students/scholars only

Modern Mount Vernon is a creative organization. I see a huge range of videographers that make great contributions on Vimeo, KZbin. Look up the MV Historical Ass’n / whatever it’s called- contact them with a plan / concept. Why do we need a video about GW and X? Well, nobody has ever gone to modern dentists, asked about materials, the springs, toxicity (lead?). Perhaps a pair could be made and a live denture wearer could try them on - since you have teeth and a great smile. Do you see how I am thinking about this? Ask them for their assistance? I promise they will be flattered. Rightly so.
