Ford started out over 30 points behind Carter in the 1976 campaign. By election day, Ford reduced the gap to "too close to call." Ford actually won more states, but Carter won larger states.

This report is well done in the historical perspective it offers. The headline is a little misleading because it doesn't focus on the Ford Museum. Nevertheless, the content is great. I visited the Gerald Ford Museum in Grand Rapids 5 years ago today on Gerald Ford's birthday. It does a great job with its displays on his life and his presidency.
