The ONLY store one needs to visit at Harvard Square. Aside from the Yard, it is the only place that captures the aura and solemnity of the College and those who made her proud. Looking at the giant photo above the counter of the guys from the Rose Bowl Champion team, I cannot believe how fast 100 years have passed when they were feted under the warm winter sun of Pasadena. They and their buddies had smoked cigars and pipes here..... their ghosts still look down from the Chess balcony probably glaring at the naive Froshie who in days past would never have dared to enter that door... as it was for upperclassmen only back then. Perhaps the Froshie had never seen a store older than 1995. Perhaps our ghostly grads had drifted back up to the long-closed hidden billiard parlor on the second floor to while away the late Friday afternoon. The pipe and gift selection still is of high quality. They still have the old Cake Box mixture.....very mild. I will always treasure the black rusticated Peterson briar pipe presented for me upon my graduation by my Father. In time I hope to continue that tradition.
