I must sheepishly admit that was us in Hamilton a couple weeks ago. First time I'd seen some of my friends since the start of covid; I sailed in and grabbed a guest slip, and everyone came aboard for my birthday and we busted out the electronic drum pad and travel guitars and kept everyone up till 2am regailing them with 90s alternative, haha. We were pretty good though! ^_^

The ‘ol sailor’s eye caught a glimpse of chafe on the Genoa’s UV cover on the left side of the tack. Probably rubbing on the foil when furling or reefed. Time to apply some sail tape before it starts to chew on the sail fabric underneath. Oh, and of course a fun video!

That moment when you realize you no longer wish to be the kids partying on Daddy's motorboat at 0130! Middle-age comes on like a thief in the night.
@peterhendry21544 жыл бұрын
Here, in Central France, I've been to a few nights at the village hall. Those kids couldn't make it till dawn like the old folks here. Party and eat all night, Dessert is usually around midnight with two more courses to go and thick soup at first light so they don't bother with "going to bed". Big breakfast and carry on. Here's a warning for visitors to rural France. The main meal is at lunchtime and they have two hours to eat and digest it before going back to work. When they get home after work they drink a Pastis or two with nibbles and nuts (apperos) then have a light meal, or take away, with wine and maybe a wee Whisky as a digestif.. If you are invited to apperos and all you had was a quick snack at lunch YOU ARE DOOMED!
@nixl35184 жыл бұрын
I think these two have a long way to go before you can call them middle aged! While the kids were sleeping all day in their parents condos, these two were exploring a park and sailing their boat. They were just looking forward to a quiet night. That doesn’t make them middle-aged! (Edited stupid autocorrect mistakes I did not see happen!!)

The best wedding I was ever invited to was of a couple where the bride and her family were French Canadian. They had a beautiful modest short ceremony followed by dinner, and then the entire wedding party camped outside and stayed up all night socializing and drinking beer and liquor out of a ice filled kiddie pool! Almost everyone under 30 couldn’t hang and tapped out around 3 AM and everyone older didn’t sleep and partied into the next day! I had such a lovely time with her Grandparents! So yeah, the youngins need to learn to keep up lol

The Netherlands and Norway are both members of the Schengen Area. They probably have visa for the whole Schengen Area, so there is no trouble with border controls or immigration offices. Guys, love you’re vids, but I must say, when my wife and I decided to start sailing, one thing I insisted on was that she be as proficient as I. She did most if not all of the docking procedures regardless of winds. Please keep that in mind, many times we came into marinas with my back out and she was on her own. She did great!
@divekatdreaming4 жыл бұрын
No worries! They have the same mentality. Kika has proven herself to be very a very capable sailor. She docks well even though she has lost some confidence because the prop on the new motor turns the opposite direction and the motor is less responsive so the boat handles differently.

I used to do some gnarly adult ropes courses, but they didn't have the balance strap fortunately. The one with the cross ropes would always catapult me off into space. We were pretty high up and had to be belayed on line with a safety. Then there was a long zip line down a hill at the end. Fun times. Kiki lost time wise, but was more fun too watch. Dan tackled it mainly with his long legs. I like how he took the hanging ropes.

I found a cheap kayak paddle that's like your dinghy oars. It wasn't worth keeping. I don't own a dinghy, but what I know is a good paddle is what you need paddling against a current, the wind, in surf. But I don't know if there's an upgrade for a dinghy, and you guys seem to be getting where you need. If I did have dinghy and wanted to upgrade it for better rowing, of course a seat, but also foot braces. It's foot braces where the force is transferred to the hull. (Sea kayaks don't seem to have figured this out, most use crappy pegs. I make plywood foot braces connecting them to the kayak with those pegs.) Just being a busy body.
