I was an apprentice joiner for a Sunderland company called Simon west possibly 40 years ago we refurbished this pub and it all looks the same. Hardwood lasts for ever shining times 😊 good old Terry Mahoney 😊

Was going to give this pub a try next visit to Whitby. But not now I know it’s card only. Prefer to use our great British notes not plastic. Another establishment paving the way for a cashless society. Nope not a place myself and family shall visit either like a few others have said on principle. What a Shame. "Simply Whitby TV" 😂 The Little Angel is good. I also like the Elsinor for their live music sessions and always try to do a Wednesday night for Ray Randall in The Station Inn when we do visit. I'm going to try and get one of those wristbands next time and I must find you to shout "Simply Whitby TV" too!

I would have been in there Friday night gone but I read on FB that there was a SKA act on so thought better of it (shudders...). but yeah The Little Angle is easily in my top 3 pubs in Whitby. There's many, many a story based on those boards. Plus, I probably had the strongest pint in there ever, "Annexation" back in the day when it was 13% ABV. It was like drinking alcoholic treacle. Wonderful!

Don't go in with your best clothes on, they let wet dogs on the seats 😫. The Elsinore over the road is far better! Spotlessly clean, but also let dogs but not on the furniture or the carpet.

Generally swerve this one now as card only and taking John Smiths out. I prefer a pint of Tetley Imperial too but not many pubs sell it nowadays. But Whitby is a great place for a pub crawl guarantee you won't get round them all in one visit. Hic 🥴

I see both sides of the coin (no pun intended!) when it comes to the cash/card question. I would prefer the choice to pay cash or card too, but working in a business in Whitby, I have to say that it is getting increasingly difficult to get change now that nearly all the banks have closed, and the queue at the Post Office in town can be very sloooow moving and sometimes they run out of change!!

sorry pal but any pub or shop that only takes card payments .is taking away your freedom to use cash.and leaving you open to being obligated to the banks..these pubs or shops should be avoided ..until they start to take cash....
