I am totally doing this...I have the YT48DXLS and have had to replace the lights twice (here in Canada the lights are $100 a piece). So tired of cheap crap being made and pawned off as quality parts. Not spending on those lights anymore...here comes a trail light. Thanks for the video.

yep... Had a similar issue on my 53 year old garden tractor, however... it was 53 years old when this problem finally occured. lol ( built in usa ) anyway, my solution was a headlight... Literally, a light you strap to your head, things are bright as car headlights and anywhere you look you have light. lol seems like the perfect solution.

Great upgrade! I have the GT48XLSi. Same tractor, smaller deck. My lights both died but they were replaced under the warranty. I considered a similar addition when they fail next time. Good to see it is worth doing. Thanks!

I purchased 2 pairs of 6 LED/30 watt bulbs like this for my Simplicity. My tractor has very nice, very bright factory LEDs, but when I plow, the lights hit the back of the plow and do not light a path. I purchased a new-old-stock snow cab and will be mounting a pair on the top of the cab for front lighting and a single on the back for rear lighting. (I will have an extra in case of a failure). I hear that these lights are very bright, so I am also hopeful that nighttime plowing will be better. It is great to see that they worked for you!

loving your videos! I am a little jealous because I didn't get the gt, I have a yth 24v54 because that's what i could afford at the time and I thought it would be tough enough, I was wrong and have not been happy with it. My lights lasted a month and the bulbs burnt out, it spins out on every little bump. I did add calcium to the tires so its getting around a lot better but the lights are definitely the next upgrade. luckily the ol 75 ford 4100 still starts up for any real work.

Eric, a few questions. I have the same tractor with the 48" deck, GT48XLSi, how did you end up doing the wiring, did you splice or mount into the factory lights as you mentioned in the video? Also what about the spread with the single light bar, I was thinking about two of the Nilite individual lights so I could angle them a bit left and right. Would that be needed? How does it work with the snow blower mounted? Does the chute block the lights? One other note, I read in the Amazon reviews, someone recommended making sure all those screws that hold them together were tight to prevent water intrusion.
@FarpointFarms6 жыл бұрын
I just used a union type splice to add the new lights right to the factory lighting circuit. It works great and didn't require a separate switch. As far as the throw? Trust me on this. It will blow you away at how much light it puts down range.Maybe 50 times more then the stock lights, so no need to worry about the sides. EVERYTHING will be lit! Now I don't have a blower, just a dozer blade plow so I can't tell you if it will block it or not, but it doesn't interfere with the blade at all.
@vinsanity2336 жыл бұрын
Great vid but can you please elaborate more on the union type splice and exactly how it connects to the factory light circuit? Would love to be able to use the same switch for the current lights. Thank you in advance.

This is when 3M double-sided tape comes in handy. I've used that stuff to hold so many things on. Then you don't have to drill holes. Those holes were also really uneven. That pains me even more 😬

Good mod. Mine does that same thing with the lights. I was thinking of using the small square led cluster, and slapping it in the orange piece between the head lights.

We just bought a Husqvarna riding lawn mower from lowe's brand new and the headlights won't come on trying to figure out why they won't being it's brand new not used any ideas

This is probably a loose connector and that is why the headlight will not come on. There is a HUGE mower shortage so a replacement one might not be available.

I LOVE the GT52XLSI for snow plowing. I have the Craftsman Dozer blade plow for it, and I have 2 videos that cover it if you want to look at them. With the locking diff, and the chains this thing is unstoppable on my hills. I plowed 12 inches with it once and it was a little to much for it, but for 8 and under its great!

Quick recommendation: take the hood off when you drill the holes. If those metal shavings fell into your flywheel...that would be bad.
@TheRebelmanone7 жыл бұрын
That hood is not metal, you can tell when you watch the video the shavings are pure orange indicating it is solid plastic, if it was metal you would see shinny bits not pure orange bits.

Tony Hardy It is fiberglass. Still harmful.
@jaxturner72886 жыл бұрын
T.J. Boismier bad how? You know by design,that is what pulls in air to cool the engine? So it is more than capable of dealing with a couple chips of fiberglass, besides if you understand what the flywheels does you’d know its pretty durable, like, bare handed, you couldn’t even hurt it without slamming it on the floor. Its a balanced ring of solid steel with a magnet epoxied to it, so what exactly are you afraid of?

My first impression is that if you mount that on your plastic hood, it will crack that hood, probably within a year or less depending on how much it weighs. Those need to be mounted to METAL to prevent that. Mount to a front bumper bar or something like that if you don't want to bust that very expensive plastic hood.
@FarpointFarms6 жыл бұрын
The hood is Metal, so its OK, but you are right. I don't think it would be a good idea to mount one to a plastic hood. Come to think of it though, The only tractor I've seen with a plastic hood was Kubota BX series from a while back, or maybe it was the floor boards... I can't remember.
@G56AG6 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised its a metal hood, of course that is more of an upscale model, my current John Deere is plastic, as was my old JD bought in 1998. When the old one got about 15 yrs old it cracked near the hinge point, the replacement was extremely expensive so I never replaced it.

I'm sorry! The wiring was the easy part on this mod as I just used two Trailer wire splice connectors to tap into the existing headlight harness. The switch now works both the original headlights as well as the new LED light bar. I can make a video of it if it would help. Just let me know!

Pro Tip: Use the lawnmower during the day like a good neighbor. Hate when my neighbor mows at dark, on a weekday. Headlights shouldn't even be on mowers.
@FarpointFarms3 жыл бұрын
You've got to realize that not everyone lives in a neighborhood. Where I live you can't see or hear another soul. My property is large enough that I must work well before the sun comes.up and we'll after it goes down to get it all done. Add to that the need to plow before work if it has snowed, and lights become a needed item.

The worst purchase that I have ever made. Husqvarna sells the tractors knowing full well that it has several infant failure modes. The warranty doesn't do any good if the dealer has the tractor for a month before they fix it. I bought mine at True Value Hardware. Plus, you have to get it there yourself. The front bearing failed the second time I used the tractor (GT48XLSi). The blade hubs cracked and it turns out that it wasn't assembled correctly. Just right of the center of the mowing deck a one-inch strip of grass wasn't being cut. The Briggs and Stratton engine makes a lot of rattling noise so I have to believe that it won't last long either. Neither Husqvarna or True Value will make good on it. I am stuck with a $4,000.00 (with the mulching kit) piece of junk. The headlights went within the first month. An electrical engineer friend of mine tells me that the L.E.D.s are garbage and they generate a lot of heat and there is no heatsink to dissipate it. If I get up enough ambition I will make an assembly to replace the whole thing. The lights, reflector, o-ring, lens, and Xenon bulb using Mag-lite parts. I, of course, am going to spread the word as far as I can to people about the miserable experience that I have had with the two companies over this defective tractor.
