My old man has had one of these sitting in the basement unused the last 30 or so years, maybe even longer. My wife and I have property in Maine that we hope to start building on in a year or so, I'll have to take his and either put it in the house, or in the workshop. Can't beat a free woodstove!

Thanks for the review. I like everything about this stand, but is the seemingly small height adjuster pin really rated for 3/4 tons, since that's all that's preventing the whole thing from collapsing? The one I have also has a pin for rough height ajdustment, probably smaller, but I only use it as a "helping hand" for things like hitch or ehxaust removal/installation.

I have a MLA-30+ indoors but i needed an outside antenna a bit sturdier to withstand the Wisconsin winters so I purchased a WV-601 for $189 and received it about a month ago. I installed it atop a 20 foot mast. So far I am VERY pleased. It is a low noise antenna and impressively sensitive. DX-ing is greatly improved on both Shortwave and SSB . It matches up well with my ICOM R75 and other portables such as the Tecsun 990X. I should also like to mention that while i did not obtain the antenna for MW listening the WV-601 is a stunning performer on the 540-1710 khz band as well. I'm looking forward to connecting the loop to my Whistler scanner and checking out UHF frequencies. For $189 it is a highly recommended bargain.

Off topic as I always am. Iowa boosts two 1A 50,000 watt clear channel radio stations. One being 1040 WHO which can be heard all over. The other being KXEL 1540 KHz that boost two 275 foot towers at Dysart, Iowa. I always joke 500 watts at most. Coming home at 2 in the morning I could pick it up from 80 miles to the south.(preacher trying to save my soul) Driving back roads. I drove past the transmitter sight to see 1 tower was completely dark and the other had the bottom 2 beacon lights working, but the top beacon was missing. One would think after the Houston helicopter colliding with a 900 foot tower and winter coming. Stations owners would be checking tower lights.

I really like realistic products, I like to see how many am radio stations I can pick up late at night always looking for better antennas to do that. How would you say it compares to the mla 30+? If you raise up into the air some more would you do another video showing how it does? I am envious of you moving out on a farm, I would have liked to have done that 30 years ago but I am to old now, do not like in town living but at least I do have a nice size garden that I really enjoy. That's a cool receive antenna with some ears. 3.6-3.99 MHz LSB is the 80 meter ham band. 10.1-10.15 MHz is the 30 meter ham band - 30 meters is for data & morse code only. The real test would be seeing how the antenna handles 27.385 MHz LSB (CB channel 38).

Thank you for this fine review! I do have the Deshibo GA800, but that's mainly an indoor antenna. The 26cm circle can be used outside, but it needs to be kept from rain. The GA800 is an active antenna. It works fine on the lower frequencies when powered (active), but my experience on the higher frequencies (where, according to Deshibo, it's designed to be used passively) is not good... So I was very interested in your video. Though it's a passive antenna, it'll work better, since it's an outside antenna... If you buy it rightly (depends on the shop), you can get it for about 70 Euro (about 80 USD) here in Belgium. Though the screen of your radio was not readable very well (for us the viewers), I saw a lot of good reception. I would like to hear the difference with the MLA30+...

Although I prefer outdoor long wire antennas up as high as I can get them, this is a solid solution for anyone with space constraints. Even if someone uses wires outside like myself, I might recommend setting up one of these small loops in an attic for a backup solution. Snow, ice, wind storms, etc. can take down outdoor antennas when you want/need them. An antenna like this can receive communications when you may need it most, and the outdoor antennas are down. With the wide frequency range of this antenna, pairing it with an inexpensive SDR receiver can also provide hours of entertainment.
