What is a lorry? EDIT: When I Google lorry, it brings up a normal big rig diesel truck. Like the average truck that hauls around trailers in the U.S. Is that what you're referring to?
@foamdataservices2 жыл бұрын
@@YeshuaDisciple916 Lorry is a size between van and big rig. Like a box truck. Typically sub 4 ton. For my 2C I would rather they built a mad rig like a Pinzgaur or an 8x6 ex military truck vs a road van/truck.

Very cool to see it come together after seeing it start life as a basic van. Are there any more plans or are you going to drive it for now? If I may add some build advice for those looking to convert a van, after having owned several myself. - Weight is your enemy, especially in Europe as you easily reach 3500 kg's gross weight (about 8000 pounds) quite quickly, especially if you use wood as thick as Kyle did. This is very overkill in many place,, like the speaker covers. A wooden roof adds weight up high, making body roll worse and it is just dead weight. Looks cool but burns fuel. Every pound you add you have to lug around, which costs fuel and therefore money. If you want a wooden roof, fake one with very thin plywood. - Seal the floor/wall seam. Any water spilled will get under the floor and cause rust, rot and mould. Salt water is especially bad as the salt attracts more water on top of making rust worse. - Use slats instead of a sheet of wood for you bed. It is half the weight and allows the matrass to air out. You'd be surprised how much moisture a matrass traps. A sheet of wood will start to rot and keep your matrass damp. If you already have a sheet, drill a bunch of holes with a good sized hole saw. - Install a fan to ventilate the space without having to drive or open up windows, in case it rains for a couple of days straight. - If you have an outdoor kitchen like Kyle's, get three sheets of metal the length of the sides and rear of the stove platform. Connect with tabs or wire and set it upright around the stove. This will stop the wind from blowing the heat away, making cooking much more efficient. You can add a low one on the front if it is very windy. If you make it right, you can fold it flat and store on top of the stove. - Be careful using self tapping screws, the bare metal rusts quickly and you can't see the hole. If you go through to the outside, make sure to paint the screw and surrounding metal. - Don't use the twist caps (or what you call them) to connect the wiring and don't use solid core wiring. The vibrations from driving can shake them loose and cause metal fatigue in the wiring, causing it to break. Use crimped connections with regular twisted strand copper wire. - That homemade swivel seat platform is quite sketchy. The swivel plate is not designed to deal with the forces in a crash and the horizontal supports of the seat frame are not meant to support the chair. The legs themselves have strengthening inside. I've had factory swivel seats, which had to pass inspection and they were very strong. A proper swivel seat is expensive for a reason, there's a quite a lot of engineering in designing a safe one. Some of these might sound a bit harsh, but it is a fact of camping and I learned some of these the hard way myself.

I've always liked this van! One thing I wonder about is insulation. The coldest night sleeping in an RV I can remember was one winter in Columbus, MS when temperatures reached the single digits. My understanding is that Michigan gets colder for longer and even in sunny CA the nights can get quite cold. This rig would be pretty comfy for three season camping in the Southeast US but wouldn't you want more insulation and heating for where you live and work?
@LobbyDaLobster2 жыл бұрын

With a van build like this where there are a lot of wires going to a battery in a wooden box I recommend wiring the battery to an easily accessible disconnect switch that the wires go to. That way one short doesn’t cause catastrophic failure. A quick turn switch can save the whole van

Wow! Strong work on the Astro Van. Great use of space. A thought: there is this stuff called “Hypervent”, designed for putting beneath mattresses on boats to avoid moisture accumulation and mold under there. Really great stuff. It is a plastic honeycomb mat you place on plywood and your mattress on the Hypervent. It works. Air flow. Moldy mattresses are nasty. I use linoleum for flooring in vans. Single piece if I can. Less joints to leak. More waterproof than Pergo laminate flooring. Also, why no insulation in this build? Just curious. Nice job. You really achieved a lot here.
