The last time I saw the movie was June 1963 on our black and white Zenith. "Can God answer prayers in the form of an idea?" The nun concurs. That night he kills the artillery guards and dumps all the cannon breeches in the lagoon. The U.S. invasion force comes ashore unopposed.

The nun kept herself pure to the very end. The man didn't violated her instead he respected her vow. That's the beautiful ending of this story.

@ Shai Kordor, the marine did not act wisely considering that he was having a beauty queen all for himself. This type of nonsense will happen only in movies, not in real life. If the marine had acted wisely, then the nun would have relented. The church grants dispensation in certain circumstances as per the famous dialogues from Clint Eastwood movie "Two mules for Sister Sarah"

Of course if they redid this in modern woke times, the man would get captured trying to get food for them for the cave, the nun would decide she can no longer trust in an non-corporeal being that doesn't seem to answer the most basic needs and allows such evil to persist, and she would shed her items for combat gear and go rambo on the soldiers eliminating most while they slept and freeing the man. Together they would end kill the last soldiers (with her having to prop the man up several times or protect him), leading to a romantic scene after their success of course.

The original movie ending is missing. In the missing final scene Allison goes to a convent after the war, looking for the nun. He still wants to marry her. As he leaves, failing to find her, he passes a nun. He doesn't recognize the nun he's looking for, but she recognizes him. She looks at him fondly, but doesn't say anything. She has already taken her final vows to be a nun.

If you can love like Buddha and Jesus then there is no suffering, Love takes control of the conscience and there is never an " I " and if I vanishes then lust, identity, supremacy, anger, desire all vanishes. You can love others expecting nothing in return, You stay a witness to the beauty yet become the beauty. You see a woman, fall in love but do not expect sex from her because you have become the woman deep within and do not want to cause any pain only the wellbeing of the other is the focus, now you do not find the need to have sex with oneself, You are excited to see yourself as a woman and vice versa.
