I mean... 15 years is a seriously long time. It makes sense that they wouldn't wait for possible nothing, which is the worst outcome. Similar to the anime Erased, where even the main girl couldn't wait for his childhood best friend, what most people thought would be his lover, and got together with someone else. The fact that his mother was the only one waiting for the MC to wake up after 15 years is amazing and truly heartwarming, but what's even crazier is the antagonist literally did the same. The antag believed he would wake up more than the Female MC.
