we're lucky to have grown in a western country where society promotes individual happiness over chaining yourself to allow another person's happiness. in china and korea, there's SUCH a bad stigma over not being a "perfect family", they feel OBLIGATED to suffer bullshit so people will say she's "caring" and a "good sister". it's bullshit. she needs to be FIRM with him, she needs to realise he's emotionally manipulating her and stop feeling guilty for HIS SICK TWISTED MIND.

I honestly think the part when she mentioned he was upset at her for closing her bedroom door creeped me out the most. I'm not saying that none of the other things were beyond creepy, because they were, but not letting her close her bedroom door? Should she change in front of him then? Is she not allowed to have privacy? (Even married couples get some sort of privacy!) Seriously, the way he acts with her (especially the comment "who is she talking to on the phone for an hour?") is like a jealous boyfriend trying to control his girl. They try their best at forming a solution but of course they only have a short period of time. Sometimes they do make jokes that can seem insensitive. This is absolutely disgusting and it is making me so mad that these people are not seeing the problem. This brother has some serious issues and he need some help from a professionel not from some clueless hosts and celebrities. The people who are coming to this show are REAL people with REAL problems who need REAL counseling. The show is called "Hello counselor" so for gud sake get some real counselors on the show or shut the whole show down!!! I never been so angry and sad watching a video before. This is really disturbing! Poor girl, there is definitely more to the story than she is telling.

You clearly don't understand the point of this show, which is to spread awareness about the problems the people have, possibly get them help financially, and motivate the people to get better help. The show itself is good help as it is. It's counselling but also mainstream.

@@wheresmyrooptoff4056 I agree with you so much. I have been a fan of this show for a while like 2-3 years. I ALWAYS see comments with people complaning, but this program has special episodes where they check up on people's situations and many peoples lives DID CHANGE because of this show. ~ This show DOES WORK. And you know how I know that? I've watched so many episodes. I figured it out. •People come on the show in order to sort out their problem, so they ALREADY have the heart to change. Coming out is the first step. •Second is the hosts and guest dig through lots of their past, find the reasons for things. In every episode, either the person with the concern or the person being "told on" finds out something they didn't know. This will change their mindset. •Third, more than that they tell each other stuff and make promises they never have before. This changes their relationship and helps guide a hopefully successful future. •Fourth, to help aid the process, the hosts explain what the person being "told on" did wrong. To some people they are nicer or meaner to depending on the situation. Anyways they try their best to get everyone on the same page. This is something ONLY a third party can do. ~ These people had the courage to let the whole world know of their problem, so why can't they fix it? Every attempt can't be sucessful, but the show has impacted many lives. -.- And like you said. awareness is good too!

Kyuri First, i'm not trying to hate on your culture at all. Second, yea talking about weight is considered a normal thing in korea but there are other ways to show concern then making jokes about someone who is bigger then the ideal size. Also my comment was not mean't to offend you, I said it because she looked uncomfortable when they started talking about her weight.
@palmtree19586 жыл бұрын
it's not that disrespectful to say something like that in korea. If you're going to watch korean shows, you've got to be prepared for a lot of stuff that might trigger western ethical or moral alarm bells. It's really just not that big of a deal.
@MinttMeringue6 жыл бұрын
Kyuri Yeah, it bothers me in these shows but I'm not too angry because it's normal there. But at the same time, understand that you guys also have a high rate of eating disorders and seem to make a joke of that as well. So things like that ring our moral bell. Someone being 55 or 57 kg is generally healthy, unless they're shorter. The West is simply against the "everyone should be under 50 kg" thing, because of things like celebrities who are considered pretty and a preference for fit people. (Muscle mass can make a skinny person weigh a lot.) But I think most people who watch shows like this do have some sense of understanding the idea that these jokes are fine in Korea
@ilBRV926 жыл бұрын
@Kyuri just because it’s normal to talk about doesn’t mean it’s not doing harm. The girl was obviously uncomfortable after they said that. As a Korean, I know that it’s not taboo, but it’s a part of our culture that should be progressed - especially in a country where mental health care is essentially nonexistent.

Yeah it is, but unfortunately that's how Asians are. Weight isn't considered a sensitive topic so people joke about it openly a lot. I'm sure many do get offended, but there's probably also many people who are just used to it so they learn not to be too offended. But yeah it's unnecessary, and as a Chinese American, I get annoyed every time my family mentions my weight. -.-
@EndohMiharu6 жыл бұрын
khaye claire, I agree it was rude, but that's from our viewpoint. In Korea it's not seen as a "disgusting" remark as it would be seen in America. It's not as severe. These days I'm sure you've heard the term "roasting" someone. It's very much like that. Like yes, it's a jab at her weight, but they don't take it as seriously as we would. Just cultural differences. Just like how in America, cursing at each other while arguing is pretty normal, but this segment shows how seriously Koreans take cursing. It's seen as the highest offense to curse at each other even when arguing. Different cultures just have different rankings of severity for certain offenses.

Westerners at it again... Its okay to talk/joke about weight in other countries. Don't try to change a culture you don't belong to. You're not going to like a culture for everything it has, but you need to respect it if you want to delve into it. If they want to be progressive and sensitive about jokes, let the citizens of Korea decide. If she was anorexic and someone said they are checking in on their sister every day to see if she ate too much and the counselors joked that "trust me she's not eating enough if anything she could eat more" to prove a point, none of you would care.

@kaitlyn63366 жыл бұрын
I just saw a bunch of westerners commenting the same stuff. In Korea we all talk this way whether we are fat, skinny, ugly, pretty. I've been fat and had people do the same but it's just joke. And I'm saying we should change our culture ourselves if we don't like something, not the American kpop fans who are constantly not understanding that other countries are different from them and that they should respect other people's cultural difference. I'm not skinny so it's commented on but I know my friends here in Korea will also say the same thing when a girl is too skinny. Like how I love American but I can't stand all the girls with their boobs out in public and videos considered funny of kids disrespecting adults, but you don't see me commenting on American music videos and tv shows for girls to stop showing boobs and for them to stop find disrespect funny, telling them they ae wrong for talking/living a certain way.
@neesta93256 жыл бұрын
Yeah sure, Korea has a different culture and all that, but people everywhere can struggle with weight. Just because it is okay to joke about it in Korea does not mean it should be. Saying directly to people that they should skip a meal or two, even it is a joke, is unnecessary. It is a big issue in Korea that everyone needs to be perfect, in school, in their jobs, and at home, and the fact that it is okay for other people to comment on one's weight and appearance is not helping that. You say that you do not find kids disrespecting adults funny, but it seems like you find it funny to disrespect others. So what is the difference between you and those kids?

@BobaGreen ha. ha. ha. good sarcasm. I mean, clearly you have no sense of humor if you're acting like theirs is inferior or wrong, which by the obvious sarcasm, is how it's coming across. People like you need to start understanding that humor is subjective and you only look like an idiot for acting like it's not a sense of humor, when clearly people in the audience thought that joke was funny.

As an older sister who's parents also divorced when we were young (my brother is 5 years younger) I somewhat understand what he's talking about, but this is too extreme. My brother will always be my baby brother, but that doesn't mean I'm going to baby the hell out of him until he dies. Will I cry when he gets married? Of course because that means he's found someone that makes him happy and he's ready to start his own life. If he forgets his lunch for work or school one day of course I would drive to bring him something. But at the same time he has his own life and I'm not going to be there for him all the time. This guy is just crossing the line. She can't even talk to him comfortably about her life. It's important for siblings to have a good communication (even if we fight) system because you will never have someone as close to you as your sibling.

The brother is doing all for himself. For his own fantasy and liking. He uses his emotion to control others in the family. He is a demon . Throughout the whole show is all about "I feel sad" ... is all about I!

Ok, obviously the whole brother situation is really gross and slightly alarming, but I'm really upset that they said she could "lose some weight" so casually. (At 14:09) I know it's normal in Korea (the bluntness, I mean) but I just felt so embarrassed on her behalf.... Clearly Mark is kinda shocked too, just look at his expression lmao
@FistDaMonkey5 жыл бұрын
The translation is wrong actually. The guy who said "It doesn't look like it" was definetely out of line but the she could "lose some weight" line that came after was never actually said. It's actually a question, not even a statement. He said "다이어트 삼아 한끼 거를수도 있는거 아니에요?". Which translates to "Can't a person skip a meal or two and think of it as a diet". Which is a very common way of thinking in Korea. Whether you're fat or skinny or normal, people think they could use a diet so it's common for a person to get a salad instead of a burger or something and say "this is my/your/his diet" very casually without implying the person is fat. He was telling the brother that he doesn't need to overreact to her skipping meals because you can skip a meal or two for diet reasons. Yes it's very common in Korean culture to normalize dieting and for everyone to think they need to diet and have it thrown around casually. People say to each other at work "I'm on a diet". It's not necessarily a phrase that comes out of a fat person's mouth. Basically even dogs and cats will be saying "i'm on a diet" in Korea. However, It's NOT normal to just make jokes about someone's weight. That's still rude no matter what.

@ratdoto21484 жыл бұрын
It's miss translated. Korean doesn't use pronouns and the translator took the liberty of adding one to make it directed at her, which I don't think was right in this case. I think a better translation would be "skipping a meal could be called a diet", more of an idiom than an insult.

I think stuff like this comes down to culture. Laughing doesn't mean they find it funny, but it might be something simple as they've grown up with the social rule "it's rude to show discust, just smile instead". Therefore they'll laugh at disturbing stuff. I don't know anything about korea, but I know that every country seem to have its own "thing":p
@laylac4 жыл бұрын
Rather than being shameless it’s because they refuse to acknowledge the problem. Things like incest, homosexuality are kinda taboo topics that they don’t talk about. Even if they know it exists they’d rather brush it off as a joke.
@koirasikin4 жыл бұрын
It would be considered rude to just say that the person is disgusting and should get some help. Instead they just smile and bear the uncomfortable situations and try to make best of it by joking about it. That's how the culture is.
