I've seen them chase and they are fast. Was staying at a campsite in southern florida. Asked the man at admission gate if it was safe for tents overnight. He said it was even though there were canals. Thank God we had 2 tents, one for sleeping and one for cooler and camping gear. (There was no open food). In the middle of the night we heard a thrashing noice and a gator was attacking the tent with the cooler and camping gear. Crap it could have been our tent. The next morning we went down to the canal about 100 ft away from our site. All of a sudden a gator started chasing us. I got on top a picnic table. The gator chased after my friend up a palm tree. Thank goodness my friend got to just under the ponds of the palm tree. The gator got pretty close but feel off. Note that this camping ground was just for tents, no RV's. Needless to say we never went back there. Scared the hell out of both of us.

I live in an apartment complex in Central Florida. My neighbors wanted to know how alligators kept getting into our lakes. They were appalled when I told them they can climb fences. I'm in the middle of a busy tourist area ... Alligators, Coyotes, Wild hogs ... They closed down the Magic Kingdom because a bear wandered in ... I haven't seen any snakes, but, I assume they're around and naturally raccoons. Even had a river otter come visit. So it's best to assume at all times one of the above is around.

That goes for 90% of predators. They weigh their options, and this is survival for them, and if the thing they wanna go after is bigger, most of the time, they dont want to risk getting injured in a fight. They want to sneak attack from behind. So thats good advice. Farmers innrural india would and still do wear masks of human faces on the backs of their heads so tigers think their looking in their direction when theyrs actually facing the other way working. @@shejean you really don't know gators do you? That's no baby. A baby gator is no longer than your forearm. That gator is no baby. If it got a hold of that man's leg it would mangle and either brake the bone in it or rip it out of the joint socket. A death roll will do that. Man would probably lose the leg after it's mangled. Gators are very strong, specially compared to a human.

I worked for the largest privately owned hatchery in the southeastern United States for 7 years. I was contracted out for their lake/pond management (aquaculture). And all I can tell you is that a good rule of thumb is that any gator over 6ft is a serious threat. I’ve been in plenty of ponds in Florida in my waders and always kept eyes in the back of my head. The little guys are more scared of you then you are them. But once they get to a certain size, they can possibly see you as a big meal. I’ve had to remove 2 big ones in separate locations in north Florida just so I can do the required work without fear of losing a limb or worse lol.

I saw a pair of eyes, in the lake, in the distance, I stood there, could'nt believe what I was seeing, in that moment the eyes seemed to be swimming straight towards us! I alerted everyone, we have to get out of here, go to the car now! The alligator, spotted us, and started to swim, straight for us! We told the camp manager, a lot of campers in there, not too far from that gator! Be careful, especially if you don't know the area your visiting. ❤
