The change happened with the BLM movement and the activists groups that grew up around it like the anti police terror project. They created so much pressure on city leaders to drop what they called discriminatory policing while at the same time getting a radical activist into the DAs office. Most people that live in Oakland don’t even know what has happened and don’t understand the dynamic. The ones that do understand the dynamic still vote for it because they refuse to give up on the progressive liberal dream that if you’re really nice and lenient to people they will eventually fall in line and behave. Unfortunately the very nature of progressive liberalism is to have sympathy and empathy without rationality. They want to solve everything with “ programs” but the tax base to pay for these programs is drying up and their only answer is to tax those people and businesses that still remain more in order to pay for them instead of providing adequate services to those that bear the brunt of the taxes. I could go on and on but the reality is that Oakland is in a death spiral and when I see the Mayor and other city leaders give Namby Pamby weak ass speeches that show how out of touch they are with the situation on the ground, it shatters any confidence I could ever have in them. When the one female Indian city leader talked about how great it was that Taco Bell closed it’s dining room on Hegenberger road because that will give people the opportunity to try some of the fine dining located just up the block, I further realized just how much these people actually despise the honest, hardworking citizens of Oakland. They can’t even secure and protect a two mile stretch of road to the airport. How are they going to protect an entire city?

As someone who lives in a major Spanish speaking part of the US, I think it's time we implement Espanol as a second language(much like Brazil does), we could also use some of our massive wasted tax payer money to teach English to immigrants. The problem between English and Spanish language is how differently it's spoken, and the older you get the harder it is to learn, as an English speaker getting a grasp on Spanish opens the door to learn a lot of the Roman based languages.
