Kim Kardashian recently revealed she hired a “manny," a male nanny, so her children would have a male influence in their lives after her divorce from Kanye West. Why is society getting rid of what is traditional and effective and replacing it with artificial substitutions? Let’s talk about it.

I was a nanny for 5 years to my niece. I had gotten arrested for fleeing and eluding the police, street racing, and was in a rut in life. My niece was an only child, 9 years old and very sheltered and scared of the world. She had to attend an after school program that she hated and it kept her from dance and ballet. My sister knew I was in a rut and trying to find myself and offered me the job. I was hired to pick her up after school everyday and take her to and from all of her after school activities until her mom got home in the evening. 5 days a week and all day in the summers. I remember on my first day I asked my 9 year old niece if I should hold her hand when we cross the street as we were getting out of the car, I was truly clueless, me and her didn't know eachother well, and she said "I don't know...maybe you should" and held up her hand to mine and I took it and we crossed the road together. My car broke down about 3 months in and I told my niece I didn't think I was going to be able to do this anymore, and she said "but I won't be able to go to dance or ballet and we won't be able to hang out and go for our walks" My heart melted. I had 2 brothers and 2 sisters, she was an only child, she had nobody. I had let people down in the past and I didn't want to be that guy to her. I was able to fix my own car and I stayed on as her nanny 4th grade through 8th grade graduation. We became best buddies. We went for walks at a local part every nice day, I had a rule where no phones on our walks and she opened up to me and would tell me about getting bullied and tough times she didn't want her mom to know....i'm gonna cry right now when I write this...after she graduated 8th grade and she would be going on to high school and wouldn't need me anymore, she wrote a blog about us...and I'm crying a little now...and she said "he wasn't just my uncle or my nanny, he was my first best friend" Today she is 25 and works as a graphic designer for an NBA team. I went to college for graphic design before becoming her nanny, and basketball was my life. I guess I did a good job. Those 5 years were the best days of my life.

I cried writing that...I didn't know that would happen. But I never really talk about it because it's looked at like a female role and I'm a masculine dude. And she helped me as much as I helped her, we both needed eachother at that time in our lives, we both learned from eachother and grew. I miss this time of the year because we would watch Halloween movies and our walks in the park with the leaves. We still have so many inside jokes and we always give eachother christmas presents based off stuff we watched or did in those 5 years.

Its so sad that even relationships are outsourced and turned into a "job." It seems life is always about making money every second of every day and trying to get ahead, but never actually getting ahead. Its incredibly sad. In the end we will all have worked ourselves to death our whole lives and have no meaningful relationships to show for it.

Hiring a "a male figure" for your kids, while your kids still have an active father is crazy. Money can really buy anything
@watchonjar
@watchonjar 10 ай бұрын
No whats crazy is that she would even think to do this. Kanye isn't just active the man bought the house next to hers, he's right fucking there. Also lets say this does work and the kids consider him a father figure, what kind of emotional nonsense is this going to impose on the kids if this guy just decides to get another job, or what happens if he gets attached and Kim fires him or even how they are going to feel that their new "dad" is only in their lives bc he's being paid to do so. That last point is important especially for them since having rich and famous parents will mean they will have a lot of people who will want to be close to them for money and clout. I didn't have a high opinion of Kim before but its really taken a serious nose dive, it truly is insane how some women can let their vindictiveness against their farther hurt their children.

I used to work in the children's department at my local library. It was unbelievable how many parents would just drop their children off (which was both against our internal policy and punishable as child endangerment in my town) and we'd have to sit with these confused or sad kids that always said they were told to "pick a book and behave, I'll be back in a few hours." It broke my heart, and so many of these kids were excited to show their parents what they picked out to read while they waited, and they were SHRUGGED OFF. The amount of times I'd been left to de-escalate or reprimand a child, too, and then HOW DARE I TRY TO DISCIPLINE A CHILD THAT'S NOT MINE. Be a damn parent. Stop leaving your kids with librarians. We're not babysitters.

@AJ.9.25 10 ай бұрын
This would have been my dream as a kid, but I get what you are saying. It's too bad the parents didn't stay because libraries are great. Our library had tons of free activities and I would take my child at least once a week to different ones. It was a great way to bond and have fun when I didn't have money to do anything else.
@eyes_espresso4803
@eyes_espresso4803 10 ай бұрын
@andijames9967 it makes me so glad to see that you're acting on the benefits with your own kids. I did neglect to mention, these were children under the age of 10. Our internal policy was children age 10 and under MUST be accompanied by a parent, and these were all small children, the youngest probably about 4 years old with no older siblings. And the parents were always either annoyed or infuriated that we were forced to call the police department (who luckily were right next door) when they didn't promptly return. We'd have an officer sitting with the child and it was ALWAYS a battle.

I was a "manny" (no idea this term existed) for a lesbian couple while I was working on my MSc. It was a somewhat odd situation, but the daughter seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. The couple was indeed right about one particular aspect: The daughter will look for any male role model there is, and if there is none, she may latch onto the wrong one. (The biological father of the child was busy with his 2nd wife.)

In Kanye's defense, fathers often don't pick their kids up from school. They're usually busy with their jobs, providing for their families. He very well could have been just making sure the guy wasn't teaching them things contrary to what he would teach them for the times he could not be there.

If dad has some mental health issues (bipolar I think) and isn’t always there, why on earth is it a bad idea to have another stable male in the kids lives? It beats letting that male influence be a temporary boyfriend of hers. Of course it isn’t ideal, but sometimes as parents we have to just do the best we can. From a full-time homeschooling mother of 4.

Sadly, their dad is not a good role model. Accepting sexual favors in public and that being caught on camera in the tabloids isn’t something to look up too. We all know how Kim got famous, before anyone claps back with that, we know. That was a long time ago and before children. Kanye it’s screwing up in real time. Society always talks about lack of male role models being a detriment to children. Why is it a problem when Kim is trying to make sure her children has positive role models. Especially in such a female dominant family. The poor has big brothers big sisters, the rich has nanny’s and manny’s.

She never called the manny his father. It takes a village. She wants him to have a male figure in his life similar to an uncle or older brother. I think it’s smart. Truthfully Kanye’s appears to be a bit unstable as of rn and with the demanding life of a rap superstar, him being off his meds and him on his 2nd marriage Kim wanted to make sure his son still had a man to look up too. Personally I see nothing wrong with that. Now if she was trying to replace him that’s something different.

I'm on the autism spectrum and trying to learn independence, and last summer I wanted (past tense- wanted) to ask to care for her for a few days to take on more responsibility. I was told by a few people that while they knew I meant well, society would get red flags over a 24-year-old man wanting to watch a 7-year-old girl alone. But I bet there's people in society who are perfectly okay with this stranger "Manny" living with Kim Karadashian's kids.

I mentor young men BECAUSE I had a father and also a mentor growing up. Everyone can give back. I'll say this though, our father was much more important to us growing up than our mother after we turned like 5. Our mother was fine but she didn't give us what only a father can, guidance. The father is such an extremely important figure to the socialization of your children with the world. The mother teaches you how to keep a good house and a father teaches you how to conduct yourself outside that house. Idk when or where or who thought that over complicating the family unit would make it better or something.

As someone who has been in the nanny field for over 8 years…I will tell you what children truly need and that is the presence of both their parents. Yes parents go out and work to provide but it truly has an affect on the kids later in life. I think nannies are really great but they do not replace the reality that children desperately need the attention, affection & love from their parent(s). Parents miss out on the important years of their child’s development and growth by choosing to be a bit more absent.

This male nanny situation is tricky. It's not good to leave your children behind, but if the father does do that I can see hiring a manny being justified. Now it seems Kanye is apparently involved in his childrens' lives, but at the same time he also seems to have a new partner. To me it seems the manny situation is to make up for the fact that Kanye might be busy with living a life with his new partner on top of trying to be in his kids' lives. Also I can see a scenario where a manny would be helpful to have. Depending on what your family household is like it's possibly if a nanny is present she's already a few times influencing the child in ways she might notice. When I say influence I mean in small ways that are essentially a quirk that everybody has, not influence like teaching morals. Mannys would essentially fill the same role, and in addition be a male role model. The US is in a crisis where the middle class is disappearing while majority are poor and the tiny few are rich. As a result majority of fathers can't really be home in time to spend time with their children if they're busy working ridiculous hours like 6-11 to make money and keep paying the bills. I'm not saying remove the father from the picture of the family, I'm just saying it could be helpful if there was still the male role model presence being instructed to teach the things the father wants to teach.

Now I’m curious. Why do you think a man can’t be a nanny/babysitter?
@curtismatsune3147
@curtismatsune3147 10 ай бұрын
@@joress Because generally speaking the male influence on children is for them to toughen up and thus is individually-directed whereas the female role is nurturing and communal. As such the female role translates easily into nurturing other people's children whereas the male role with its focus on the individual is best kept to the man's own children. You don't want that type of tough discipline to be undertaken by a man outside the family. Uncles are okay but fathers are best by far.

I don’t particularly like Kim, but I agree she is trying to do what’s right. We don’t know How much presence Kanye really has, but we know enough to know it’s not consistent. Even if it was, in such a female dominant family, even if he was a full time dad, a couple more positive male figures would be a good thing. Rob got chewed up and spat out by that family. Maybe had there been more males to advocate for him that wouldn’t have happened.

It happens when a parent realizes they can't raise their own children. It's sad and it negatively effects the kids. The moment you bring a bunch of people in a child's life and throw them into a bunch of different environments with no consistent and stable anchor you might as well tell them split personalities is a way of life.

I have been a nanny for 10 years for working parents and it is totally normal for them to tell me how they want me to help raise their kids. That is literally my job, I do not have the right to raise someone else’s kids how I see fit… Kanye did nothing wrong by telling the manny how he expects his kids to be treated when he’s not around. That is a respectable thing to do. Hired caretakers are not replacements for parents, we never claimed to be either! We provide care when the parents are working. I am a female nanny, that doesn’t mean I am replacing the mom, she is still around and appreciates my help!

What do you expect from a family who uses surrogates to have children? She essentially bought her child and so did her sister. This is going to sound sexist af. Not all men are creeps. But I hate when something like this becomes a trend because single moms are already targets for sexual abuse towards them and their children. And there’s plenty of single moms who could care less so long as they’re getting the child support checks. I hope every single mom or whoever is hiring a “manny” does their research because I’d hate to hear about the unfortunate children who go through something terrible because TikTok and Kim Kardashian did it “first”.

I got married a little after our separation and my husband has been more of a father to our 2 children then their biological dad has been for 4 years 💔. I tried working out my previous relationship but he simply didn't want to be with me anymore. Now when I see my ex rasing his girlfriends daughter I can't help but feel happy for the child. Since at least she is being loved by a man who is not biologically her dad. All I have to say is that separation or divorce should be avoid and both parties should try working it out. But when it doesn't work than hope and pray another beautiful man comes along and loves and treats you and your children how you deserve ❤ I know I definitely found mine ❤️
