@the groupie Well some younger guys can just be naturally attractive so even if they are poor and living on the streets they can still be attractive . But yes building this kind of muscle is probably not possible without proper nutrition .

I've seen a couple of hot young homeless guys in NYC. It can happen. Also, if the guy is recently homeless (like just been kicked out from home by his parents or family) he is not necessarily going to look gaunt and skinny. Anyone can be homeless at some point in life.

Well, I have a colleague at work who was my classmate at university a couple of years ago. He is supposedly "straight", he's got a girlfriend and everything. However, he always tells me that I've got a nice ass or I look handsome with certain clothes. Actually once he told me my hazel eyes looked pretty in the mornings. I don't know if I should take it as a compliment or something else...¿? In my case, I'm gay and all my friends, including him, know that, so it's quite confusing.

ok! so i just finished watching the entire movie and i think my opinion on it is slightly different than the majority of comments i’m seeing here.. although i do agree with most of them! The ending of this film is absolutely horrific and unjustifiable, i kept my eyes closed the entire ending and just sat there disturbed after the movie finished. very saddening. For those unaware, the film ends with the pastor burning the homeless guy whom he was genuinely in love with, as an attempt to hide his sexuality and pretend that the relationship never happened in order to keep his reputation at church. yeah, i know, very disturbing. i’m noticing that a lot of comments are stating they are angry at the writers of this movie as it portrays homosexuality negatively, i also notice comments shocked about how a writer could make a film like this in 2019 when we have gradually, slowly, and progressively worked towards normalizing something as normal as homosexuality. But i actually think this film was quite well done in the sense that the storyline is more common/accurate than most of you think, even in modernity today. i definitely have my personal dislikes regarding the film for an example it upsets me that almost every gay short film or lgbtq+ movie results in a heterosexual marriage being ‘ruined’ by a spouse ‘cheating’ with someone of the same sex, and also the ending was just horribly upsetting. However let’s not forget that even as of 2019 conversion therapy is still active in 15 different states, and other third world countries. homophobia even to this degree is still, sadly, alive and i think this movie did a great job showing just how destructive, overwhelming and problematic religious homophobia is. many people who are lgbtq+ and not religious struggle to understand the mindset of these people. but i am gay, and christian, and have struggled with balancing these two for a while in the past. i cant even explain accurately just how horrifying it is to believe that this thing you have all faith in, all love in, all hope in, all sense of worth, life, safety, security, tranquility and joy, could hate you, or send u to burn for eternity for something you cannot control, for something you feel so deeply. my fear of going to hell or disappointing God made me end relationships, force myself to HATE possibly love interests because well they obviously are problematic if they are capable of ‘tempting’ me into doing something that results in eternal torment. it WILL affect your mental health horribly, and i can imagine it being worse for a pastor who probably married a woman because he felt he had no choice. He really did seem to be very fond of the homeless man but his fear completely took over. it’s sad to see how much he prayed and prayed to try and erase his feelings, he seemed to be on the brink of losing his mind. that does not justify what he did at the end of course, that’s some next level crazy shit, but i think a lot leading up to that is misunderstood. stuff like this is still happening around the world, i really really hope that soon this won’t be the case. unlike films like boy erased this film did not have a happy ending, but i don’t think the film was homophobic propaganda i think it was not meant to have a happy ending just to show everyone how fucked up religious homophobia is. that was just my take on it. there was also a lot of irony in the film possibly trying to represent the hypocrisy within some churches. it’s a weird concept but i think if u look at it deeper it says a lot.

I only read the beginning of your comment, but thanks for the warning. I will pass on watching it. I always look up a film first before watching. If it ends in horror I pass. But I understand and appreciate why people make these films. They educate and protest these abusive social.conditions. The stories need to be told, but serve best as education for homophobic people. The rest of us can seek out the happy endings.

Thanks for your post. I watched this film a few weeks ago and became very engrossed in it….hoping for a happy resolution for the two characters only to be shocked at how it ended. I know all stories don’t have nice tidy endings, but that was some next level trauma I wish I hadn’t seen. The film serves a purpose to show how religious fervor and fanaticism regarding homophobia can result in self-hate, death and destruction and in that regard it hit the mark….but I became so invested in the blossoming relationship between Eli and Daniel that I was shook at the turn of events. All in all it was a well made film but not one to see if you’re looking for a gay “feel good” movie.

the concept isn't necessarily saying it's okay, but it's supposed to point out how ppl can be too afraid to reveal who they really are. it's more common than you might think, not burning someone, but going to extensive lengths to hide their sexuality. it's highly unlikely that a priest of that kind with a wife & an established belief would ever actually continue being a priest while admitting to being gay, it would probably ruin their following. i hope you understood what i meant, i tried to define it at best i could.

This is a great movie with very good performances. The comments about the end are not fair. Fire has been used as a symbolic way to show purification and a way to start all over again. You don’t actually see the lover burning or anything like that. Today homophobia and discrimination are common especially in the south of the US and other countries. The women role is always of resignation and sacrifice to maintain the appearances. Sad but true.

For all the people complaining about the ending, saying it didn't have a message of acceptance etc. I wanted to say that not every story has, or should have a message. The pastor killed the homeless guy maybe just as someone would kill his lover, either they were male or female, gay or straight, to Cover up For their actions. Just because they are gay, it doesn't mean that the main theme of the movie should be promoting acceptance. Like, there are other aspects in life Too, that don't have a happy ending. It doesn't mean that someone who is gay in a movie should always have a happpy ending just because they are gay.

***Spoilers*** I liked this movie. I thought the ending was fitting. I'm not homophobic (far from it) but I think Daniel's death was unfortunately the only way to highlight the hypocrisy of Christianity (and perhaps all Abrahamic religions) in the way they regard "sin" and their treatment of "sinners" (ie. basically anyone who is not like them). As Jesus said: "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". The townsfolk seem to have missed this in their Bible studies. The movie does a good job of driving this point home. None of the townsfolk were perfect and even Eli admitted himself that they are imperfect people, yet they were somehow unable to find it in themselves to forgive the "sinner" (Daniel) whose only "sin" was being gay. He was the only person who didn't actually hurt anybody. I think the gospel's core teaching of "love thy neighbour" was totally lost on these people who were too caught up with their own problems to feel any compassion for another human being. The four characters who were responsible (directly or complicitly) for Daniel's death - June, Trevor, Jimmy and Eli himself - all had their own agendas (I mean, granted, Jimmy just wanted to bang his cousin but it was hardly a "godly" thing to do). They didn't kill Daniel because he was gay. They killed him because he was an inconvenience and got in the way of what they wanted (protecting the church's reputation or whatever). I didn't see this as a "gay movie" and it certainly wasn't a romance. It's a brutal look at the reality of the church and the small-town mindset in the Bible Belt (or maybe anywhere). I know most Christians are not that extreme in real life and would never do that to another human being, but if you think about stuff like "gay conversion camps" there is still a lot of homophobia and general hypocrisy in the Christian church in America (and elsewhere). I can actually relate to this movie, and I totally got the point it was trying to make. I used to go to church for about 2 years over 10 years ago, but I left because there were simply too many questions that no one seemed to be a able to answer or even want to think about. One thing that always bothered me about my Christian friends at the time was that they were unable or unwilling to question anything that they were taught and had overly simplistic ways of understanding the world (it was all based on Bible teachings) and they were generally not interested in things that happened outside the Church - there was nothing in their sermons about environmental activism, women's rights, refugees, etc. Even the V-Tech massacre didn't get a mention after it happened, which I was kind of shocked about. It was all about evangelising and fundraising for missionary trips. That was literally all they talked about and did at church. All their conversations revolved around their church and other people's churches - nothing about the news or what was going on in the world. In a big city like the one where I live, that kind of mindset might not have much of an impact, but I can imagine what living in a small town would do to someone with such a narrow-minded approach to reality. I even had Christian friends who didn't believe in evolution, even though they were university educated. It was weird. Anyway, I digress. I think the actors did a fine job. People who hate the ending - get over it. It's not a Disney movie. The actor who played Daniel (who happens to be gay in real life) is alive and well and that's more important, isn't it? You all should watch the movie Boy Interrupted if you haven't already - it follows a similar theme but it has a happier ending.

I love gay cinema films and I’m used to the sad endings and can, at times, appreciate them but this one...oh my god. Absolutely HORRIBLE. I’m not sure what actual message the director was trying to convey with this film other than hatred for religion. It was a complete psycho ending and I don’t believe that’s what the pastors true feelings were. Just a tragedy of a film and of his conflicted character specifically. I would get choosing the church over him but actually going with murder and burning this man??? What the actual F.
