Күн бұрын

In June 2006, C Company, 1st Battalion, Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, conducted a major operation into the Iraqi city of Al-Amarah. After several hours, the Company began to withdraw back to Camp Abu Naji, however, as it did so, one of the Warrior AFV's became stuck in a roadside ditch. What followed was a perimeter defence by the P.W.R.R. to protect the recovery of the Warrior, during which Private Michelle Norris, a 19-year old Medic, exposed herself to enemy fire to save the life of her Commanding Officer.

And this ISN'T the whole story... It completely skips over the fact that the helicopter was already there. It WASN'T a medevac helicopter, and it was deliberately drawing fire during the attack. I'd suggest looking up "William Chesarek" on Wikipedia for the full story.

Stories detailing this kind of bravery and devotion to duty is always so inspirational. As the father of little girls (and as a veteran), I am so glad that the stories of badass young women like Pvt. Norris are being told. In a world where girls are getting such a high dose of “sexuality = success”, it is incredibly important that girls have positive sources of inspiration that prove that their worth is not derived from in between the legs of men.

@@jmiddlefinger It's bloody terrifying isn't it John. I'm 40, and my parents only had to worry about where I was if late home. I worry about my two when they are literally upstairs on their tablets/phones/PlayStation, let alone venturing to the park to meet up with their "real" mates. Social media is our worst nightmare as Dads, but you can't completely deny them the use of it, as it is genuinely were they chat to their classmates etc, and as you well know, you say "No" and they will dig their heels in and do it anyway. If yours are old enough to use devices do you disable the ability to wipe the browser history etc on the them? Mine are at the age right now were they have no expectation of privacy online from Mrs Elect and I!
@jmiddlefinger
@jmiddlefinger 3 жыл бұрын
@@residentelect It really is. I’m 39 myself, and my youth was much the same as yours. My kids’ mother actually won’t even allow them to have iPods, believe it or not. She also home schools the kids, so they aren’t really bothered by it the way they would be if they were attending public school where every other kid has them. On one hand, it alleviates a lot of worry about who can access them and what they can be exposed to, but I personally would rather allow them limited access and encourage open communication as best as possible. I would definitely make use of protective tools and ensure that their browser history isn’t modified, though. Honestly, their mother’s insistence on homeschooling really bothers me in a lot of ways, but there are some definite advantages to it. They get to grow up much more like we did. I just don’t really know if that’s the answer, but my opinion doesn’t count anyway as she is the custodial parent and I’m a second class citizen in my own family unless I drag them through the court system.

Al-Amarah and Basrah were like the wild west back then. It was just mad. Amazing as she was, Pte Norris was not an exception. Our people, out there, in Afghan and elsewhere, on a daily basis proved the old guard's suspicion that our generation weren't up to it to be utterly baseless. So many brilliant young men and women (and some older ones), getting on with a thankless task with good humour and quiet courage. And don't forget the ordinary decent Iraqi's, caught between us, criminal gangs, Iranian proxies, proto-ISIS and god knows who else. Thank you LFE, for bringing this back to life in such a respectful way... (wipes tear).

I'm glad you've posted this video. At home we had coverage that showed troops fighting, helicopters, AFVs and ground attack aircraft but we heard little of the battlefield medics. Being fired upon and firing back is one thing, but making yourself a sitting duck is something else. I know she was "only doing her job" but that took more bravery than 99.9% of us have.

From one Combat Medic to another well done, Private Michellle Norris. It was in 2003 and the MP Company I was assigned to had fired less then 500 rounds. But we, along with all other US forces in country, were ordered to collect all the brass we fired per the REMFs in Baghdad and I assume Rumsfeld and his desk warriors in the Pentagon. Apparently we were wasting too much ammunition in a peace keeping operation where Mission Accomplished had already been declared. I can't imagine how angry the US command would be with soldiers firing over 7000 rounds in one engagement.

There’s so much of this story missing from the video. The QRH search team pinned under fire and having to evacuate literally on top of each other in the back of a Warrior; the REME recovery mechanic who hooked up the disabled warrior under fire who was literally covered in shit (warrior stuck in drainage ditch) and had bullets striking around him; the armoured vehicles receiving multiple RPG hits as they acted as “sandbags” for the infantry on the ground; the closeness of the fight where vehicles getting back to camp had unexploded blast bombs and grenades on their back decks…… As the anniversary of this event comes up next week, I’ll be thinking of everyone who did the extraordinary that day.

Why wasn’t Private Norris given a VC? That’s gallantry of the highest order. Also, I’d love to hear more about female warriors. We often hear about the men, what about the ladies?

Yeah lets see other channels steal views & subs away from the original creator. There have been lots of react channels taking LFE's work and rinsing it before its got any traction on his own channel. SHameful!

@@Peoples_Republic_of_Devonshire if you think that it is OK for another channel to put a video together in minutes, reacting to someone's else hard work and research, that no doubt takes weeks, maybe even months to put together, then you must be smoking something very strong or you are ill. If someone watches a channel reacting to one of LFE videos, then they have no need to come and watch the original. I would hate to think how many views LFE has lost out on due to these react channels. Not only are they taking potential views away, they are also taking away AD revenue and SUBS for future videos. Its no different to stealing. Just because you cant see it and it doesn't affect you, doesn't mean its not. I think its shameful and hope that KZbin puts an end to it.

@@woodybenjam I actually had never heard of this channel until it featured in one of his Reaction videos. Since discovering it, i've subscribed and gone back to watch older videos this channel has. Why? Because i'm not here chasing the latest and greatest like it's some kind of fad. Giving myself a quick fix of the video du jour. I'm here because I have a genuine interest, and although our friend Livith sometimes goofs the names and pronunciations, I respect the effort and value this guy puts out in his content. All because I saw one video in one reaction video. Now, as much as I'd be flattered if you told me I'm some unique creature and that there aren't many people like me who enjoy Military history and want to learn more, I suspect the opposite is true. That I'm nothing special and that with more people seeing more of Combat Arms Channels reactions to this awesome content, MORE people like me who may not know this channel will find a new store of awesome content to get into. Oh and I still watch the reaction video, even if i know what Livith has said (I sent this as a recommendation after watching it here first). Because I respect the man who creates THAT content too, and I want to know what he has to say.

@@paul1978g Its a shame you didn't find this channel first. You would have been putting a small amount of money into future videos from the creator of this channel, rather than someone else's, who earns money from other peoples work.

2004, providing escorts to Land rover ambulances in Basrah...Taking fire, we got into hard cover and returned it....one of our guys had gotten split up from us and was on his own the other side of the road, got to have been 25 m wide, he gets hit in the arse and starts shouting over the PRR hes been hit....A SGT calls for covering fire, stands up, runs across, picks this guy (with all his kit) throws him over his shoulder, runs back, dumps him in the ambo....then just got back to working the contact. Didnt even mention it to anyone in the AAR.
