Recognize Barney Martin, aka Morty Seinfeld, Jerry's Dad, as the doorman? For the longest time, I thought the "bribe" ad ("I'll give you thr--FOUR dollars" "Keep talkin', I'm listenin'." ) was one of the most hysterical ads on TV! The whole run was brilliant.

One of my shotest employments ever, but enjoyed it very much. Management was a joke, but the job itself was fun and high tech for that time. Starting pay for that time wasn't too bad either. $15hr. Too bad they didn't take their time thinking this business out more. We often ran out of popular products. Pets stayed busy until the end. We recived alot of positive feedback from customers. In the Union City office. Not sure about the SF office. Thanks for posting. I miss silly commercials. These way too repetitive singing/dancing in the streets Broadway style birth control commercials we have now, have me hitting mute at the speed of light LoL

There was a period of economic prosperity in the late 90's due to low interest rates. People had so much spare cash that investing money in the stock market became the thing that everyone did, and investments were typically in companies that seemed to be growing fast, with high profits projected in the future. Those companies were mostly .com companies that were growing rapidly through the typical scheme of selling their products cheap to gain brand awareness, before increasing prices.

And back then, when the internet was relatively new and exciting, internet-based companies were hard to value, resulting in dot-com company stock prices skyrocketing. In late 1999, the federal reserve increased interest rates again and again, then people started losing their confidence in the projected profits of dot-com companies, and started selling stocks, causing the stock prices to plummet.

Those were the days! You'd get $20 worth of already discounted food, use 20 off no minimum purchase coupon and pay 5 for delivery. For two years I was getting my cat food and toys almost for free. Occasionally I felt guilty and bought a little more stuff, but not much. I was wondering how they could make any money this way. Turned out they can't. I almost feel guilty for helping them go out of business.

@jewelmarkess

John Doe Yes.... I've never invested in any of the dot coms, couldn't believe they make any money given how cheaply one could buy stuff. I did have regular tech companies like Intel that I didn't sell on time, but whatever I lost on paper came back. My parents lost money on Lucent, though. Still, people who were smart to get out on time did make money.

A real failure in advertising. The dog did well for selling the dog, however, it did nothing for overall revenue. All though this was one of the first internet sensations the company later went down because this was not positioned well and did nothing to build brand recognition and boost sales; instead it gave the poor sock puppet its fifteen minutes of fame.
