At the end of the original series, Gennai told them that the Digiworld will reset itself and then time in the Digiworld will move just as fast as in the real world. Which is why the kids had to leave immediatly. Maybe this was left out in the english dub, but it's the reason why they can only stay in the Digiworld for a few hours a day in 02.

Also because the Digital World will see their data as bugs and delete them basically assuming that the DW is alive. This is the earliest refference to Yggdrasill. Basically the system(Yggdrasill) would see them as a foreign object and delete them.

For a little bit of context to the Kouji and Koichi stuff, In japan divorce is taken very seriously and can get extremely messy. And since in Japanese culture children are seen as the household's property instead of being their own people, some parents may not retain any visitation or legal rights to their kids. So I can imagine that Koji and Koichi's parents who got split custody decided that they just raise the son they got as an only child due to the hostile feelings post-divorce.

Kind of a fun thing to note in the tri series. The digimon when digivolving have 2s in their binary code which foreshadows their infection. The 2s are gone after the reset.

I'm glad you liked Appmon! A lot of people are put off by the spinoff-ish nature of it, but it's legitimately really good. The characters are memorable, the plot is fairly good, and there's iconic moments like you mentioned. The MotW can get a bit old, but I feel like they did it much better than Hunters at least. Appmon is definitely one of my favorites as well. Also Haru and Yuujin are hella gay, that is all.

The rules change from season to season. In the Digimon Adventure canon, Digimon never die in the Digital World because they can reconfigure into a Digi-Egg in a digital plane. However, because the real world isn't digital, they can't reconfigure, and if Digimon die in the real world, they're gone for good. This is probably why the main kids' Digimon stay in the Digital World, because keeping them in the real world is a major risk should they have to fight again. This changes in Tamers, where if a Digimon dies, no matter where they are, they die for good because then their data can be absorbed. Frontiers have the same rules as Adventure, though it's hard to tell there because they hardly spent any time in the Real World. I'm pretty sure Takuya just went back the one time. Data Squad has a very interesting take on it. Digimon can die anywhere and be brought back, so long as their egg isn't destroyed. As far as the death of Digimon, I get why each have their interpretation, especially since Data Squad and Tamers take place in the real world for the majority of the show, but I do think Data Squad has the best interpretation of this. It still keeps an element of suspense, but the real world has become so technologically advanced that Digimon are still capable of reconfiguring into a Digiegg. I'm not sure how death worked in Xros Wars, but in Ghost Game, it seems to be the same as Data Squad minus the destroying the Digiegg, since it seems like the egg forms elsewhere from where they die, which is also interesting. The thing to take note here is that Digimon both permanently die and yet not really because when they are reborn, they lose all of their memories and basically become a completely new creature. Bokomon in Ghost Game died, and while it isn't permanent, he isn't going to be the same Bokomon anymore. If they brought back the element of eggs being destroyed like Data Squad, I'd say this one is my favorite interpretation of the concept. Either way, it's pretty fascinating.

While I understand you don't like catchphrases in general, I really like the fact that Eri and Astra's catchphrases aren't just mere catchphrases. They are also incorporated in their character development arc where they have to prove what they said and the catchphrases gained new meaning and become their own personal motto, especially when they were encountering hardships or reflecting on their goals. That's why I don't mind the catchphrases in this show as there are narrative reasons. Appmon excels at developing their cast, so to anyone haven't watched it, I'd encourage you to check it out!

First, I have to give you props for making this video at all. It's a daunting task and I always appreciate people who cover more than just Adventure in these types of videos. You had me until you called Data Squad bad. Blasphemy. Top 5 season easily. The dub mucks things up *some*, but even then it's great. And you really said that it's the worst after watching Frontier, which is the actual worst? All the characters have some amount of depth which is better than Frontier, the music SLAPS, the plot is up great with actually nuanced villains for once. Kurata is great villain. He's literally a textbook racist and that's the point. The taking over the world thing was actually a dub addition IIRC and it was more about Kurata being so extremely insecure that everyone else was inferior. But alas, it is your opinion and it's valid, even if I disagree. Watching Adventure 2020 weekly was not fun. It was fun to discuss the episodes, but it's so barebones and mindless that there wasn't much discussion to be had. It's only redeeming qualities IMO are the music, animation(only sometimes), and use of obscure digimon. I can't stand LEK or 2020 at all personally. 2020 and Frontier are bottom of the barrel and the worst IMO.

Honestly with adventure and 02, I wish they expanded Kari alot more especially since she was introduced so late. I mean I find her personality interesting as she's like the sibling who feels she gets in the way of stuff and thinks it's her fault and tries not to be a burden, but her role supposedly as a digimon goddess was only talked about twice between 2 seasons and never again, like that should've been her time to grow into a super important character. But then again 02 had alot of changes done to it during production because of creative differences, and that always hurts a show

Now here's how I'd personally rank all the Digimon series from best to worst (excluding Ghost Game since I'm still working my way through that one): Tamers Adventure 1999 Appmon/Universe Applimonsters Savers/Data Squad Adventure 02 Adventure 2020 Frontier Xros Wars/Fusion (first two arcs) Adventure Tri. Kinda surprised 2020 is so high on your list tbh. Honestly not sure whether hunter, tri, or adventure 2020 is worse. I had a lot of disappointment with young hunter, but that's because the start of it was actually pretty good, only for it to go immediately to an end game and have the most anticlimactic ending around. Tri was too melodramatic for my tastes, really was just boring and didn't need to exist. 2020 had a fine enough start but felt like it was wasting my time and just dragging the plot along. I'd say that there just wasn't the same level of mystery and intrigue in the reboot/sequel that hunter had. At least for hunter there was not only a lot of questions that needed answered from the previous season, but there were character interactions that had a lot of potential, like seeing the former main character take on a more supporting role due to a new person taking the lead.

@@shawnjavery I mainly placed "Adventure 2020" among the middle because it at least had a fair amount of decent character interactions, such as between the lead kids and some of the digimon they meet along the way (Mimi and Joe being the prime examples). Plus, it received a decent finale and all of the kids aided each other throughout the story. The last part is also why I placed it above "Frontier," considering how that season sidelined most of its kids in the second half of its run. However, that doesn't mean I had problems with "Adventure 2020" like the pacing, lackluster personality of Tai/Taichi, and not bringing more elements of the real world into the mix. But even with these major issues, I still got more satisfaction out of that show than "Tri." and "Young Hunters." The former became a complicated mess with too much drama and very poor treatment of the 02 characters, while the latter had too much filler that focused more on developing one-shot characters than its leads, barely used its crossover elements, and crammed all of its interesting plot points into the last episodes. The latter element left me so apathetic that YH immediately became the worst 'season' for me.

"If you're a fan of Naruto or Bleach, like me, you can't complain about filler" I get what you mean, but I think Naruto and Bleach fans have more reason than anyone to complain about filler. Like Bleach literally has an episode end mid battle, only for the next episode to be the start of a completely unrelated filler arc which not only clashes with where the prior episode ended, but where the series currently is, jumping in like it was a fresh arc starting in peace times. Then once that entire filler arc is over, the next episode picks up midway through the fight that the arc interrupted. So you've got an entire arc put on hold mid battle, for an unrelated filler arc that cannot even fit into the continuity properly because it makes no sense to happen at the point it does, then back to the battle like the filler arc never happened. I'm totally in agreement that filler isn't inherently bad (and in the case of DBZ there is a lot of filler I strongly consider to add a lot of emotional weight, making their canon arcs stronger by including the filler) but I mean Bleach has probably the worst executed use of filler I've ever seen. As a Bleach fan who actually likes filler, I still think that was horribly executed. The quality of the filler is irrelevant in my eyes when it's used in such a ridiculously interruptive manner. Don't mind the filler itself, but it's automatically irritating when just shoved in like that. I think a better way to put it would be that if you're a fan of Naruto or Bleach, you've got a high enough tolerance for filler that most other series aren't gonna bother you in comparison.

Just a comment about Kizuna. It's a love letter to Butterfly. Eosmon is a blue butterfly. The themes reflect the lyrics such as "after all those infinite dreams/possibilities surely can fly again" or how it ends with , "I don't know what I will do tomorrow"

Oh man I have so many different thoughts that will probably end up as separate comments. First, Ryo. You said he's the main character of a Wonderswan game, but he's actually the main character of THREE Wonderswan games - a trilogy that includes his involvement of Ken's original corruption via Black Spore, having his partner Digimon DNA Digivolve with the superpowerful Big Bad of the games, ZeedMilleniummon (and is why Cyberdramon is hard to control and very animalistic and aggressive), and ends with him entering the Tamers universe, hence why you see him both in one scene of Ken's flashback and in Tamers. Very interesting stuff!

Season 2 implies that the half merging of digital world and real world synched the time, i think it was slightly said once. Guilmon growing up like a baby to understanding the world blatently, especially in movies, is amazing and i think season 3 is insane and probably the best entry point since a lot of it is just 'oh digimon irl what the fuck do i do' that many kids can relate to. I'm the opposite of you, i am an edgy bitch that loves that digimon even in adventure gets into some dark topics and shit happens but that then reinforces the anime friendship thing and often times just friendship isnt gonna do it and using it as energy to make plans and actually outdo is really nice.

I'm also excited for "Digimon 02: The Beginning", but to be honest "Last Evolution Kizuna" is the perfect end to the "Adventure" storyline. I also agree that "Tamers" doesn't need a continuation, it was a great season and it ended when it needed to, so why mess with it? If the Adventure and Tamers series were to continue, they'd probably become stale or tired. There are just some things that are better left alone.

The time thing between adventure 1 and 2 was explained in the last episode of adventure 1. When the digital world reset the time difference between the worlds was undone. That was a big reason for the kids going home so quickly. School was coming up and other stuff like the gate closing for an unknown amount of time.

I think the best thing about season 1 is how each kid gets essentially a lesson to learn but a lot of them actually gte it wrong at first in ways that feel realistic for kids. Tai thinks he's being brave but just wants to be stronger, hoping he gets a powerboost when it's convenient because he realised he's in a shonen anime which isn't a brave thing to do. Matt is questionign why he out of all people should get the crest of friendship when he mostly was about protecting his family. Sora finding out that her mother being protective is another form of her showing love, all those messages felt very honest and like a genuinly good lesson to learn, it's so high above the average "try hard and believe in the power of friendship" type lesson you'll see in other kids shows.

Frontiers is still my favorite. Takuya is the best leader and goggle head. Koji loner act is actually believable more so than Matt and the other guy in The 5th season. Zoey is a good combo of Sora and Mimi, Tommy is a typical youngest kid with moments to be brave and step up, and JP was kinder than he acted at first and was naturally funny to watch. I think 5 is a safe number of digi destined. Kouji was a bit extra but a nice edition to Koji character.

All of my favorite Digimon characters are in adventure series, but Digimon shows past first 2 ones(unless it's adventure tri/kizuna/2020) are way more willing to give digidestined superpowers, at least occassionally Even when I watch 02 more than any other digimon seasons combined in my childhood, as I grow up I finds out 02(and it's sequels) are closest thing any other anime-style medium got similar treatment to current seasons of Pokemon anime, as far as their actual shows concerned. Digimon seasons 3+, despite lack of my favorite characters there are even more willing to give kids superpowers in even canon

I dropped Digimon Adventure 2020 pretty quickly mostly because of the weird reactions to stuff everyone has. Not to sound like a sicko, but I liked the Adventure kids constantly being overwhelmed at the start. It helped feeling for them and them being relatable. Meanwhile, in DA 2020, they not only barely react, but also pull some pretty ridiculous feats from the getgo, like landing on their feet from high elevations or pulling off well coordinated strategies just a few episodes (or sometimes minutes) after they meet. It felt off in that regard, constantly. I paused the video to go and watch Last Evoution Kizuna spoilerfree though, and man, I have to say, it was worth it. Good movie. Much much better than Tri for sure (and I say that as someone who liked Tri's atmosphere quite a bit) EDIT: my favorite season will always be Tamers. I have an entire shelf of selfmade pokemon and digimon drawings, so Takato spoke to me even when Tamers first aired. I do agree though that it can be a bit of a slog at times. Adventure is much easier to rewatch and also very entertaining.

watching the english dub is not the best way to experience the series at all but all the contrary... It's really bad, making some seasons just unwatchables for how they changed the script, dialogues and not to mention, the generic us soundtrack.

You know how Tai and Matt fight, what i think they should've done was have Matt be possessed as his mental state was low. He's forced to fight Tai and its emotional because of the bond. Its cliche but it makes more sense.

I hate tri so much, it's like they made a poll of basic elements fans want in the movie and just wrote the script around it without bothering to keep it coherent or good in any way. I hate how they throw in characters like the digiemperor and gennai in without it making any sence. I hate how they ruined the first mega level reveal so bad that in the 4th movie they just throw in 3 at the same time even though its supposed to be a very big moment. I hate how every kid goes through a basic bitch character arc they should be long over at this point. I hate how the authors idea of having a more mature tone is being very boring teen drama without any fun involved or even worse, showing sexual harassment I hate how they go to the digital world like one time and mostly just picknick there, any sence of wonder is gone, it's by far the most bald and boring version of the digital world in the franchise. I hate how bland and boring the new girl is and how much screentimes she eats up anyway. I hate how they reused the king drasil storyline for like the 4th time. I hate how they basically did the same thign as Digimon the movie and cut up a TV show that also looks liek a TV show into 6 movies to market them as such. I hate how the last movie played butterfly like 10 times in a desperate grab for emotions to the point i almost got tired of it which shouldnt be physically possible I just really hate how it was supposed to be this big finale for the franchise but it felt like a soulless product in every way, So glad we got Kizuna after it to wahs the taste of piss out of my mouth

I watched the entirety of digimon adventure tri in one night one time. Watching this video, I looked at some frames of the movie and I seriously did not remember any of it. The movies were so unmemorable. Either I skipped some movies or I just remember the first two movies and the ending.

Adventure (1999): Pretty rough but it's still nostalgic. Adventure 02: Very messy, with the Christmas Episode, Ken's backstory and World Tour being pretty good episodes. The fetishy stuff like Feet is literal Dan Schneider levels of awful, even if it's in Digimon of all things, 02 isn't great. Tamers: S. Tier. Stuff. From Guilmon being adorable despite his own problems affecting him, making him feel guilty for his own actions when he isn't, he's always loved. That and Leomon getting deleted + The D Reaper, it's amazing. Frontier: A few hiccups, The children turn into Digimon instead of getting partners, it's dark and emotional, some missed potential and awful moments, and some good stuff, it's hard to rate this since it's so complicated. Data Squad/Savers: Very underrated but it's an alright season, can't really say anything bad about this season. Fusion/Xros Wars: absolutely terrible. Xros Wars: The Young Boys Who Leapt Through Time: It fixes some of Fusions issues, but it has a lot of missed potential. App Monsters: It's okay. Tri: mixed. Adventure (2020): Oh they messed this up. Ghost Game: It's good in the first half but it gets repetitive and annoying after a while, ending on a rough note. Last Evolution / Last Evolution Kazuna: How to fix Tri's problems in a good way.

I feel the same way about Braking Bad as you do with Tamers. I know its a great show and I enjoy it, but it's not what I would go to for entertainment. It's kind of a weird feeling to have.

I Really recommend Digimon Adventure Tri Abridged be Project Mouthwash. It really makes use of the premise, and the digidestined truly feel like maturing teenagers. The jokes are hilarious and the writing is superb. It is so good that I smiled at the Digirap. Seriously.

3:21:28 actually fun fact, that deathmon was made in 2000 (just never used in anything) & even before that in a oneshot manga that counts as digimons first the antagonist was another digimon names deathmon (who has never been seen again)

your opinion on rika is bad and you should feel bad. however your opinion on mimi is based af, so it all balances out. konaka's slide into weird libertarian circles is unfortunate, and makes a sequel unlikely (alongside renamon vo retiring). it's sad because there's a lot you could do with a tamers-universe where they're teenagers and/or adults. (hot take, but honestly I'd also be okay with letting someone else reboot/write a sequel to tamers, provided they were passionate about it.) I connected with it the most as a kid, perhaps because I had a turbulent childhood, so I'll always look back fondly on it, and I do think it touches on some timeless themes about childhood. but I can see how the reverent tone some people talk about it can be annoying, and it's still digimon at the end of the day, haha.

Some takes. Adventure 1 and 02 had the best storytelling and benefits from strong Character development (TK, Blackwargreymon, and Ken are the biggest highlights here). Tamers started out slow but the small cast allows for the most well drawn out cast in any Digimon series due to balancing focus between the Digimon and the humans (lots of depth with Guilmon, Impmon, and Renamon). (Cannot judge Fusion or Frontier). Data squad had a compelling concept but the execution falls flat due to poor writing and lack of character devolopment (latter was inexcusable due to the smaller cast). Tri is a good but flawed series that felt too rushed possibly due to constraints (such as King Drasil being defeated off-screen).

@@CristianLopez-mz1ru i thought Meiko was a great add-in for the Tri cast. Her shy and quiet personality made her stand out from the other cast and I like how they handled Meiko's inner conflict on if they should kill her Digimon or not.
