Awww we went to this church in the 70s & 80s... all my realities were raised here... my grandma Virginia Prykowski ran the Italian suppers in the basement kitchen here for 30 years! My relatives went to catholic school here & as they passed they had their service here...wow! I filled this room with song! Thanks...

I substituted as organist for a few masses right before the Parish itself closed. Great organs, great music and a great Parish. God Bless St Victors and the many wonderful memories it will give to those who were a vibrant part of this Church.

Hello Nathanael - I wonder if you have any idea as to the history of the organ. I was under the impression that it was a theater organ and was mostly out of service.St. Victor was where I was baptised and grow up for most my life. I remember the keys would get stuck at times. Is the organ new and a replacement? Thanks!

Baptized in St. Victor's in 1946. Graduated in 1960. Remember the Convent, "new" school building, and the Rectory being built and the Fatima ensemble being installed in the 1950's. That decade may have been the "Golden Age". In any event, I served at Mass for several years; my two older sisters were married there. My grandparents lived in the house directly across Memorial Dr. I had lunch with them every Sunday after Mass. At the funeral of my grandfather, Maurice La Noue, then Pastor, Robert Doyle, described him as St. Victor's "first parishioner". Lots of ancient memories. One wonders what happened to the irreplaceable artifacts: the pipe organ and all the stained glass (manufactured in Belgium, I believe). Would be priceless!

Your sister Christine here. Tons of great memories at St Vics.. Lots of them being the nuns singing your praises all the time to my class, although I was 5 yrs behind you. You were a Saint in their eyes. Also Grandpa, and his role and relationship with the priests. Fitting that the church was where he actually died while working there.

Truly sad! Archbishop Cupich made such a poor choice on which church to close. This is the same thing that happened at my beloved home church St. Columba in Hegewisch. I watched this video from start to finish and my heart was moved even though I was not a St. Victor parishoner.

I was saddened to see it go. There was still a good-sized Spanish community it served. The school long closed, but the parish itself was active till the end. Calumet City Resource Center grew out of a parish food pantry, I was a volunteer in the clothing donations area of it for about 5 years in the late 1980's-early 90's. There was also a weekly soup kitchen/Sunday dinner since the 80's, begun when the mills were all downsizing and/or closing up. When the parish closed there was talk of moving it to mid-week at St. Andrew's in Cal City, because it was still being served to the indigent population in the area when St. Victor's closed.

Oh! 🙄 Lol 😄 I typed my response before viewing the video, and I see you spoke of things I mentioned. As well as the diverseness of the people. Very true, all were made to feel welcome.

Way to fly the colors of the great football team of the class of 1975 (not 76), Steveso! 44-0 indeed. My reaction to seeing that trophy come out of the bag equaled Mr. G's. Good to see it - and you - on my computer screen. Miss you, Mr. G, the late Mr. O, your late father et. al. We'll always have our memories of a great time and fine people at a wonderful school. "Ashes to ashes dust to dust, beat St Andrews it's a must!"
