Hi Nanelle, I always follow your channel long before coming to UK from Jamaica. I agree she didn’t think it through but we have to remember that not all of us as immigrants are on the same paths. Some of us immigrants as we obtain ILR they’re thinking of how to reap the benefits. We also have to remember that “IMMIGRANTS” is a broad term for everyone from those who come to wrk to those who come illegally.

You’d be surprised. Anyone out of employment for long enough will look in that direction to keep head above water. The problem is with those who use it as an alternative to seeking gainful employment because they see it as free money. It’s not enough to do anything meaningful with so there is a certain mentality that leads one to depend on it permanently (thankfully, not migrant mentality by and large).

To be honest, Kemi Badenoch shouldn't rethink her opinions towards immigrants, especially Africans she's harshly critising as simply no body. It's a big shame on her to talk about fellow DNA humanity who have contributed a lot to the economy of this great country. Whar bothers my thinking most is how ruthlessly she's imposing sanctions on African immigrants so they don't have an opportunity to reach their full potential. Kemi, youre so mean and selfish. Don't you ever think you gonna win, in this party. Remember you have spoilt everything for yourself and remember time will come when same evil opinions will back fire 🔥 at you. May God grant you some wisdom so you can have a better looking at facts.

Kemi's job is to protect the borders of the UK, not to protect Nigerians. I support her move, too many immigrants are coming in and they do not mean well. I think that most people are only looking at it from one angle. She was born here, that was not her choice, however she is not there to protect Nigeria or Nigerians but she is in service to the British people and they DO have a right to defend their borders just like any other nation.

The lesson we need to learn here is to be more proactive in the manifestos and policies of political parties. I have four suggestions. Firstly, Now that the Conservatives have shown us what their policies are. We need to start voting for the political parties that have our best interest at heart - immigrants should now start voting because most immigrants do not even vote. Secondly, maybe we can start thinking of utilising the legal route by seeking judicial reviews/recourse in the justice system especially if policies have been introduced. Is there a way to contribute and pay lawyers to file lawsuits in court that challenge government decisions that affect us? A lot of trade unions do this in order to advocate for the policies. Thirdly, we need to start look into lobbying. Can we start lobbying for policies that have our best interest? Do we know any politician that has immigrant's best interest at heart? If so, can we organise a lobbying intiative? A lot of companies and organise use lobbying to safeguard their interests, so why are immigrants not doing this? We can't change policies if all we do is sit at home and complain. We have to be proactive. Fourthly, we need to raise awareness of the contribution of immigrants by letting the public know the amount we contribute to the system. This PR approach may probably contribute to the public understanding that immigrants do not clog the system but rather contribute massively to the economy, We cannot let the UK government do this for us, we have to take matters into our own hands. For example, the Caribbean community took matters into their own hands during the Windrush scandal and it worked in their favour. Let us learn from their strategy and use that as our blueprint.

A lot of emotion on our part as Nigerians but we need to think about it dispassionately. Is Kemi for the Nigerian-citizen-about-to-turn-immigrant or the UK government? Where do you think her alliances and, by association, those of her party should lie? If Nigeria (my comment is Nigeria-focused because I am Nigerian) was a place that made sense for the average citizen to live in like say, South Africa, would we be trooping here in ridiculous numbers, families in tow? Full disclosure: I am a Nigerian but I live in London as I hold UK citizenship by birth. I have argued no end with friends and even my wife on whether I am not being empathetic to the immigration issue. I always reply that if I was not a UK citizen and I found it to be too much of a hassle to migrate, I would simply stay in Nigeria like some of my siblings or look for a country that has less stressful immigration processes. I cannot imagine being mad at a country for its decision on how it chooses to handle its borders because my own country is under bad leadership. Just some food for thought.

I disagree with Yufu it some cases some people have waited 21 years to be citizens in America it’s not straight forward for everyone most immigrants it takes over 15 years to get citizenship. In a nutshell not all immigrants in America are in skilled work visa most are not and they have to wait over a decade before getting citizenship…I believe most of her ideas came from the US

I don’t think they are concern about immigrants like you. They are concern about the asylum sickers who are being paid money while here.
