A Message From the Dean | June 2024

This month, Dean Kevin J. Vaughn, Ph.D., highlights UCR University Extension’s commencement ceremony for the class of 2024. Students from across California and around the world attended with their friends and family to celebrate this special day. The ceremony featured graduates from nearly 40 different programs, ranging from postgraduate diplomas to professional certificates, to education credentials, and many more.
The ceremony also featured student and instructor speakers: Aileen Arango, a graduate from the Postgraduate Certificate in Management; Corrine Mattson, a graduate from the Professional Certificate in Crime Scene Investigation; Rashad Ismail, an alum of the Professional Certificate in Project Management; and Julia Bennett, a seasoned UCR University Extension business instructor.
UCR University Extension’s partnership with UNICAF, a provider of higher education opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa, has proven to be successful thus far. One student, Suzan Apai, shared her story. Suzan, an English language and literature teacher in Uganda, was looking to improve her classroom management style. So, she decided to think outside the box and take a business management course. Learning about business management has helped Suzan feel more prepared to be a better leader and to manage her own classroom. It’s unique thinkers like Suzan who bring UCR University Extension’s mission to life!
