@ILovHelloKitty134 жыл бұрын
Rebeccarebelli You may have read into the semantics a bit here. They don’t mean human rights are not directly in line with politics, because they are. And that’s how they are typically solved- but our system abusing human rights was not an accident. It is intentional. They mean the democratic/republican political system we’re all currently trying to navigate is not the focus point. More so that humanity & the lack thereof is not a partisan issue. Does that make sense? It’s pretty late where I am hahaha

Remember that video where Jenna is playing a card game with other people and she gets 'white privilege?" Everyone immediately gets uncomfortable and suggests a new card. She says no, and that to toss that card would be an open example and just having the option to is white privilege. THAT was when I knew she was a real one. I'm happy that hasn't changed. As a 28 year old Black woman who has literally been watching Jenna since 2010 this video instantly brought me to tears. For the past 10 years I have constantly found myself watching Jenna to fell better, to laugh, to smile, to feel something either than what the world has made me feel because of who I am. Because of what I look like. I could be having the worst day and see that she has dropped a new video and for the 20ish or whatever mins of her video I feel better, lighter. Their energy and their light, their positivity literally pours through each and every video that they post. Jenna and Julien I thank you both so much for using your voice. @gaIexy4 жыл бұрын
sam foster We know it shouldn’t be, but unfortunately it is. People have gained rights through changes in the law, getting bills passed or stopping certain bills from getting past. I agree that the law shouldn’t be what dictates what rights people do and don’t have since law and morality are not the same thing, and that sometimes things are made illegal when they are not morally wrong (such as obtaining cannabis), and vice versa.
@lotusflower4744 жыл бұрын
The personal is political. Racism, just like any other human rights issue, does not occur in a vacuum. As a disabled and chronically sick person, I see how politics effects disabled peoples lives *deeply*. Politics decides who lives and who dies. Who has the hope of research put into their condition, and who is denied that. Who is stigmatised and who isn’t. Where do you set your boundary between personal and political? I love Jenna and Julian, but I think this position is naive. When you find yourself in an oppressed group on the wrong side of political agenda, you feel the effect of politics bone deep.

Recommending this here because I feel like it might get more visibility - I think you handled this beautifully given what’s currently happened in the past few days, but don’t imagine the protests are going to stop in the next week. Could you do a follow up podcast citing/ interviewing BPOC on why this is necessary, how to help as a white ally and highlight that as white people we need to listen more than speak? I know this is an oranges to apples relation, but when you covered tanacon, you had someone who experienced the situation answer to what really happened. I feel like that format would be an amazing way to address this in an informative way, and give POC a massive platform to express what needs to be said. One other thing, if a POC has made this point prior to me and I missed it, can you please send a link to the comment and I will put it at the front of my post.

i disagree. it is very appropriate to upload lighthearted content that enables people to take a mental break from the complete turmoil that’s happening around them. if they did not use their platforms at all to share things like this video then it could be seen as insensitive, but it is most definitely appropriate to create their normal content alongside this video.

@@louabellai thats what they've been doing this whole pandemic, making light of a sucky situation with their content, but with these protests, just making a video about it and resuming content like normal isn't too appropriate, as it's sweeping the issue under the rug and dismissing it too soon. Them not posting is an act of solidarity and I respect that. Theyre using their time and resources to back the movement.

and its clear to see their words are honesty and heartfelt. This video wasnt scripted and it was greast to see these two amazing people take the time to offer their support and care enough to be able to find the words to help uplift the current protesters through the brutal treatment they are being subjected to. I hope Julien is right in saying this is a tipping point and for once in history, the black community can be treated like people and can exist without fear of being murdered, abused or assaulted. This is 2020, basic human rights for the entire global population shouldn't be in question nor should the oppressed have to be punished for putting their hand up and asking to not be murdered for being black.
@qualia59534 жыл бұрын
it's not even something controversial; there's only one way to look at the issue. jenna and julien have nothing to be afraid of. they can only benefit from others supporting them for putting this video out. because having more white voices speaking out makes a bigger impact in this continuing movement for civil rights. Really hope you're not calling BlackLivesMatter controversial, cause it's not and anyone who wants to refer to it in that way is racist in my opinion and they need to confront themselves. it's not controversial. it's just human rights. nothing is controversial about human rights. PERIOD.
@ben_38274 жыл бұрын
Qualia no I completely agree that the simple statement ‘black lives matter’ should not be disputed but the sad fact is that people are arguing over this issue. Heads up for if you’re in protest: DO NOT WEAR SUNSCREEN/LOTIONS/ETC FOR THEY CAN TRAP GAS IN THEM PROLONGING EXPOSURE. Also make sure you carry a water bottle with a squirt top to stay hydrated and also to use it to flush out the eyes and nose. If possible wear some form of eye protection to prevent rubber bullets from hitting you in the eye as that could cause blindness, loss of the eye, and in severe cases death. Do your best to cover as much of your skin as possible because while rubber bullets will still hurt like a bitch, they’re less likely to break the skin if it’s covered. And if worse comes to worse remember that you have the right to medical attention if you need it, and if you’re arrested you have the right to know why and to remain silent. Stay safe, and please feel free to add anything you know to keep us all safe❤️

Butt Nugget lemon should not be used on the skin. I’m not sure about the baking soda but the lemon causes a chemical reaction with the sun that will give you a burn far worse than a normal sunburn. However, for those who are actively protesting, try to cover up as much as possible. Try to take the necessary precautions
@QuietCreature4 жыл бұрын
@@buttnugget3121 From what I've read this isn't recommended by medical professionals - as far as I can tell your best bet is water or (if you can get your hands on it) saline. Stay safe everyone.

If you have been going through a emotionally traumatic collective experience (for too long but it’s obviously more intensified this week for everyone) it is a huge feeling of relief and security to know that the creators you trust and admire the most are right there with you in that emotion, heartbreak, and most importantly, the fight. Your comment either means that the intensity & anguish of this situation is already lost on you, or you don’t spend as much time being involved in J&J’s community, both of which mean that your opinion in this is unwarranted. I respect both of you so much for posting this. Thank you. This is how you use your platform for good. You're both examples to everyone.

@Pixi Just because he's married to an Asian woman doesn't mean he can't be anti-black. Also there are a lot of white men who fetishize Asian women, incorrectly believing them to be docile and submissive, and that mindset in itself is another more subtle form of oppression.

I knew JnJ would say something. Jenna has shown awareness of her privilege in the past and Julien said something when one of the many atrocities occurred a few years ago. They have always radiated awareness and I’m glad they spoke out. Other creators need to follow suit.

Hey i'm from México and have a little experience, if you protest here's some tips: -Always be in groups of people you know, you don't know if there are infiltrators -Write your name, type of blood and phone number of someone close in your arm, just in case -If police takes you scream full name so it would be easier for people to help you -Wear something that allows you to run -Water and phone are essentials, a card with more info would be useful too -Don't forget things can get bad very badly, get to safety as fast as you can with people you know, don't run alone but always always be ready to help someone in trouble, we are all fighting together Sending all of you good vibes #BlackLivesMatter

piggybacking here but just to add more helpful tips in case it turns violent for your demonstration: In case you get maced: - Do NOT wear makeup, cream/lotion or sunscreen, mace tends to stick to oils in those products - Wear eyewear e.g. sunglasses and face masks to protect yourself from mace/COVID-19/identification - Do NOT wear contact lenses, it may trap the mace in your eyes - don't rub your eyes no matter what, it'll make the pain worse - carry around cold milk if you can it's the best way to treat people pepper-sprayed, water won't provide lasting relief - Since mace is an oil, things like wipes, hand soap, dish soap, shampoo, and baby/no tears shampoo + water should all work to remove the mace on skin but be selective on what you use for eyes (stick to milk and baby shampoo)! p.s. medical technicians usually carry solution for mace so seek help if any is available. For more advice please look up danielleguldin on instagram, she is a trained defense specialist from the marine corp In general: - wear loose clothing but wear layers/protection if you are in one of the areas/times known for de-escalating, police has been reported to shoot rubber bullets and use batons on anyone! - make sure at least one of your friends/close-ones is staying alert and warning everyone of updates such as curfews in your area you can use twitter trends in your area or the national emergency alerts (doesn't always reach everyone's phone at the same time!) - Use group chats and discords (the latter is less trace-able) to organize and inform large groups Outside demonstrations: Stay educated! I'm seeing a lot of misinformed people and trolls going around on Twitter spreading dangerous narratives. What I've been doing is checking Anonymous and extensively look through of trending hashtags (i.e. going to the older posts+ their replies vs. newer posts + their replies). However you decide to stay informed is up to you but I see stories of potential sex trafficking, sexual assault threats, blaming the 'whites for doing x', push voting agendas, etc. all with minimal evidence/sources. Anonymous has a thread on twitter about these types of coercion that can push people to stop supporting and joining the movement. If you are scared for your physical safety, which is completely fine, join online in helping the safety of everyone: Call out BS narratives, help people stay calm and informed by spreading legitimate information about potential threats and help grassroots justice-groups that engage in activities you think you can handle!

I live in the U.K. and here there are protests beginning in many areas of the U.K. for the reason of the death of George floyd and that this event has truly woken people up in the U.K. in a way I have never seen this before and finally starting to realise that racism doesn’t just exist in America it happens a lot here and I am so glad that a lot of British people are realising that we have racism just as much as America. Now we are starting to speak out and find our courage to speak out and fight for black people to just be respected like any human should be, it’s a basic fucking human right and I’m sooo glad that the world is finally starting to see what true racism and is taking action to get rid of racism and love in peace!!! Thank you sm for using your platform to spread awareness and have the courage to do that!! Love you guys

The most effective way to stop racism is through education.
@elodgyori87934 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that's so true. Nearly every country in Europe has minorities and lots of people are racist, see the rise of people like orbán, afd, le pen etc. Be it muslims, gypsies, etc. The silence of other European countries is shameful

Yeah London, Manchester, Cardiff every major UK city came out, I’m in Liverpool there was a huge peaceful protest outside St George’s hall which was built with money from slavery. They chanted I can’t breath, George Floyd & Black Lives Matter and peacefully and emotionally walked home. The UK is behind the protesters all the way.

I so appreciate you guys for not being afraid to use your platform. I’ve been on the streets, protesting in Minneapolis and the love and sense of community is immense and the news is twisting everything so bad. My brother was detained the night before last while peacefully protesting. Thank you for speaking up, J&J, and for raising money for worth causes. Truly our unproblematic favs.
