hey lucid, is been a while since i check your channel but the only reason i came back is to leave this message to thank you the first time i found you was four years ago in the middle of pandemic (if i remember correctly) about a no fap video. little did i know that single video changed my life. after some relapses i managed to stay on no fap till this day. i say "some" because i gladly started fapping for just two years. usually, the longer you do a habit the harder it is to end it and many people tend to find out about p*rn at a young age. i did too but thanks to your information, i ended that habit sooner. i must say though, even before finding your videos i still had a sense of weirdness and lack of self control when i was about to fap but it was when i find you that it helped me close my ideas and went straight ahead to try it. anyways, i could tell you how badly have i changed for the better thanks for your help but that would take me longer than i would want to. the point is that is been a pillar for me this whole journey and i felt myself obligated to send you this. it really doesn't matter if you don't answer, as long as you know you changed someone's life for the better is good for me :)

I noticed this too, around like 2 years where KZbin Shorts wasn't as big as it used to be, you were getting a lot more views, over 100k+ average on each video, back when KZbin wasn't forcing Shorts down our throats, big channels used to make actual long form videos that span around 10+ minutes each video, KZbin's quality was so much better than it is right now, now it feels like they just saw TikTok's success and wanted to replicate it for reasons such as attraction to the platform and more money, they didn't realize that KZbin had its own defining mantra, the long form content and the quality you used to get were miles better than the short form brainrot that's on Shorts now, KZbin failed to realize that their platform was defined by the quality of the videos, now all they've turned to is short form videos to stimulate the brains of people who cant focus on something for more than 5 minutes, it's sickening.

I am an algorithm specialist and creating short form content for KZbinrs is kind of my job and I agree with Lucid it's absolutely vile what KZbin is doing. This absolutely destroys your attention span and kills your mood so you're just left there scrolling lifeless and when you get up nothing feels good anymore. This is what's called "Doom scrolling". The editors specifically trick your brain subconsciously with colours and sounds that we know you will like and stay for. This is literally what content creation has become and it's sad. I don't think it's ever going back to what it was it physically can't. This is what we have to live by now and just protect ourselves and our children from it

I won't lie I totally agree that the short content as well as the Mr Beast-ification is a cancer and in the past it was really a problem that bothered me. But for the last like half a year at least I literally have almost forgotten shorts even exist on KZbin. On my recommended page shorts literally don't exist at all. I can scroll and scroll for minutes on end and no shorts will be recommended to me. The only place I am recommended shorts is the side bar when already watching a long-form video and it shows 3 random shorts, but other than that I have no shorts ever recommended to me. I'm not sure if it's because I found the short content absolute brain rot and never watched it or maybe KZbin stopped pushing them and only show it to people who actually click on them or maybe it's just that they don't do that in my region, I'm really not sure. In any case if this ever happened to my feed I'd be very upset as well.

What I've noticed is that the shorts are obviously designed to keep you hooked on the platform so that u end up seeing more ads and they make more money. Well said, from my personal experience shorts have worked in connection with the long format videos of mine though they seem to be capped at a certain amount of views every time. That aside most shorts out there are degenerative (annoying) , random and pointless. Most do get in the way of important, educational , creative , narration based videos and part of the causation of the degenerative decline in humans attention / retention span - as seen on Tik Tok. And of course with shorts you have the attention Wh0res. Almost as bad as Twitter with OF Spam on e.g. Football , WWE , Gaming comment sections etc..

Goodhart's Law states that to control is to distort. Social media platforms like youtube have control over their users and creators, which means that ultimately, creators have to keep in mind that while this platform is great to promote your content and to quench your creative thirsts, the company has the power to do anything, and you as a creator are slaves to them, so that they can keep the platform running. Never bet your life on youtube, but rather use it as a platform as an asset to compliment your current life and to possibly make some money from it. Im a creator myself so i understand this.

If you ever used KZbin prior to 2016ish, the platform was actually better off with 3-5 minute videos. About a decade ago they started to incentivize people to make videos 10 minutes long, which led to so much filler and people having to skip through videos and watch at 2x speed. I still think the sweet spot is 3-5 minutes.

I agree with everything in this video except for the claim that KZbin isn't promoting long-form content. Long-form videos are actually becoming more prevalent, with videos previously being 10-12 minutes now being 15-30 minutes. (MrBeast and other creators are a great example of this.) The reason this is happening is that long-form videos can gain higher watch time, which is a metric KZbin heavily prioritizes. KZbin shorts also make practically no money which makes it much less rewarding to make them, although I do agree with you on the idea that most of it is just brainrot garbage. Great video nonetheless.

genuinely good creators seemed to have randomly just left the platform even though their still posting consistently. Ex: I stopped watching lucid for a few months and realized it seemed he hadn’t posted, i look him up and there are a plethora of new videos of the same amazing long form speaking heart to heart content that can’t be replicated by anyone else. Short form content has completely taken over to the point i thought he stopped posting but it was just never getting recommended back to me EVEN while subscribed. I have appreciated your videos over the year. KZbin gave a platform for people to exchange ideas, share passions and explore new ideas. It gave voice to myriad niche interests that would never get any traction on the TV networks. I saw another video by a content creator that was entitled something like "How Internet Companies Ruin Everything". One of his examples was Uber - a simple, useful and innovative concept now has these tiers and complications that make it just as expensive or even more expensive. Providers get that initial market and then there is this irresistible pull to milk their platform for every dollar possible. I am a First Amendment guy. We need to communicate and understand one another. We must find a way to avoid the media drumbeat to be at odds at each other. You're young, northern, Muslim. I am older, southern and Reformed Baptist. If we can't talk to one another, then we end up shouting at each other. I got ya covered for a good meal if you are ever in Central Florida. I remember watching that advice from an old man video some time ago. I also watched something pretty recently which predicts that KZbin videos are going to become less edited as a whole, like in the old days. People (viewers and creators) are getting burnt out and not enjoying the lack of authenticity. I don't know what it is, but I've found in the last few months I've been noticing and even getting annoyed at constant camera/video changes/transitions, including while watching your most recent video. I literally put it in the background and listen because I cannot deal with it. I personally think people are waking up to the "hype"/dopamine which well edited videos give off. They're trying to constantly keep your attention and people will eventually become tired of it. Even Mr Beast himself said he's going to kind of slow down editing and invited other creators to do the same. It's just a growing trend. Also with smartphones as a whole. As for the enshittification of KZbin, there are special tools you can use for yt personalisation ;)

Finally, someone who actually speaks honestly on the absolute fucking nuisance KZbin has slowly became. I spoke with people a year or so back about an idea to, "Make KZbin Great Again" in hopes to spark what was once lost in this beloved platform. It was once a dream and now it seems purely impossible. After KZbin joined Google LLC, they fumbled and changed it to increase profit margins/interest by throwing shorts, what's popular, sexually interesting content, and time wasting burdens of creators instead of not crumbling under the pressure of social media apps around it. Thank you lucid for spreading word about this. Hopefully this time something will change. Unfortunately, we all know it won't.

I do not pay for KZbin Premium just to get stuck scrolling shorts. I've considered many times on canceling my premium subscription simply because of the shorts. I love the long form videos. That's what I pay for premium for. Watching longer videos from the creators that I love and not having to watch an ad in the middle of it.

only reason i used an adblocker up to the day they banned them, was untargeted ads. i have gotten grounded before, simply for the fact that i got an ad for a random female clothing company while watching videos with my young cousin. if i get an ad for something im ACTUALLY INTERESTED IN, i would have no problem with watching ads, but they keep showing me things that i keep pressing the "not interested in" button, and they wonder why adblockers were such an issue and why they had to crack down on them manually.

I miss KZbin around the 2008 - 2012 era where it was trying to be like myspace, giving us the ability to customize our channels. that was so spectacular. To replace that with some bare bones basic ass banner shows how KZbin downgraded after it got sold to google.

The platform has become overly commercialized and prioritizes ad revenue over quality content. The algorithm now favors clickbait and short videos, pushing creators to focus on quantity over quality, resulting in giant product placement and content creators becoming businesses. KZbin thought that shorts would be a good competitor to TikTok but the algorithm for it is god awful not to mention how channels can easily grow to 100k-10m subs in the span of maybe a year or less. It's really sad how far gone the website I grew up on has become.

I believe their primary concern is money, rather than the well-being of content creators and viewers. When a company stops caring and only prioritizes money, they usually start to decline unless they take action to address it, which is probably not gonna happen.
