Doja Cat's career has definitely taken a hit due to her controversial behavior and antics online, causing her to isolate many of her former fans. While her career hasn't ended, it's clear that she won't be able to reach the same level of success she had with albums like "Hot Pink" and "Planet Her." This is evident in the poor sales of her latest album "Scarlet," with only the song "Paint the Town Red" charting.

This is a great video. I’ve struggled with my feelings about Doja for years because I LOVED HER in college. I was there for Hot Pink and Moo. I was truly ride or die but when the first racists scandal came out I was like nope! Then it sucked to see her blow up so big after literally joking about her being canceled for being heinously antiblack. I’ve finally gotten to the point where I can feel nostalgic about her old music and leave all her new stuff alone. It’s been very validating watching scandal after scandal and seeing people act surprised as if the anti black stuff wasn’t enough to tell us who she is. She is very very talented though I’d never deny that. She can just go be talented somewhere else lol.
@liteflightify6 ай бұрын
The “first racist scandal” was literally completely made up by some dude on Twitter that didn’t like her. There were never any “racist chatrooms”. There’s plenty of reasons to be critics of Doja. But one of the reasons many people dismiss the criticism is because folks combine reality with made up narratives.

I used to bump her music heavily in high school and now Im out of college and barely keep up with her. The multiple scandals and the instances where she made fans feel unappreciated was enough for me. Ive never been able to fully recover my patriotism for her music and dont think i will. People stay sleeping on Doja's artistry in the female rap scene fr. She can rap, sing, dance, produce her own beats, etc. She is the total powerhouse all by herself. But what I want to talk about is her latest project, Scarlet. Scarlet was a deviation from her mainly pop records, but man was it a significant marker of growth for her. We saw her trying new themes and improving lyrically. I loved that for her, and I loved Scarlet although I will say the rollout of Scarlet was messy and some of the songs felt somewhat rushed. I loved the new approach, and it's something im not really seeing any other female rappers doing now. Really good content about her career. I started to notice her in 2021 and I liked her but I didn’t pay much attention to her as a person or career. When she tweeted about the albums that she made but for her they weren’t part of her music, I think she is being so honest about how as an artist she is recognizes that she made them to be part of the industry and this way having enough fame and money she could finally show her artistic side based on her own beliefs and references. Also when she tweeted about the way of her fans named themselves is a clear statement about her being really honest with them and instead they are concerned or just fallowing everything she does she was given them a real good advice about real life. Again so brace of her . For me she really cares about them . The fun part is as an adult I started to pay attention ( attention) because of that kind of attitude. I felt for the first time that she had something to say. After that her visual and the album Scarlet , all the videos and also the tour it’s been so well done and I loved all the conception of every single detail. The refs come from so many good and talented artists from the 90’s like Tricky visually and musically when was ok have more dark and heavy music. The fashion was literally orchestrated to make an impact and statement about her new era . She attended the Schiaparelli’s Haute Couture fashion show covered in red crystals all over her body and if I’m not mistaken, it was before the launch of her new album also for the next fashion show she attended again the Schiaparelli’s Haute Couture show wearing an outfit similar to the deluxe version of the same album . The outfits the whole tour especially the Europe leg are really one of the best moments about fashion and music .

A lot of Doja’s frustrations and rants and trolling I get. The internet is full of groupthink and paranoia and people projecting their insecurities on others. And I understand not wanting to be a Pop-star puppet. A lot of people feel as if they have a right to control people’s creative outputs, how they look, their personalities just because their fans. Some of what she’s said/done has been bothersome. And she hasn’t always been mature or thoughtful with responses. Ultimately, I’m here for the music and performance. The performance is high level. The music sometimes is. I do look forward to how her career progresses. Her weakest album is Hot Pink, btw. It was a fun era and the album had bops. Doja cat: shave her head People : the fall of doja cat Like she just shaved her head she didn't change her personality or her voice she said she always hated having hair so she shaved her head it's like when a man become a woman every one support him(I'm not talking about the girl in the video) and she just trolled y'all and it worked

Imma love Doja Cat in any era. I was there when she would be on live making songs from SCRATCH. Making beats, writing lyrics; look I get that she was being “demonic” but I really don’t understand why that’s being misinterpreted when she was just trolling people who were saying she was part of the Illuminati. I never took it as her worshipping anything. She’s a troll. Her new fans need to get with the program. Artists are allowed to venture off and make different genres of music. She has always been a creative. She was always rapping and even back then I can tell she was a fan of old school rap. It was in her flow, in her lyrics, just not in her looks yet and now that it is everyone has a problem with it. That’s my take, I’ll love Doja in any era she’s in 🤞🏽❤️

@@ChriseansLostTooth it just lacks substance & a lot of the songs sound the same. she’s an AMAZING performer tho. it sucks that pop isn’t her preferred type of genre bc motivation was an obvious hit. singles sales artists most def might be her strong suit

For the record (and I'm not a fan so no bias here) critically successful albums tend to not always chart/sell well. Art doesn't always translate to commercial success and alignining both is a chore that I wish people didn't feel the need to do but makes sense as performers and musicians have to eat too.

Tbh Doja cat/ Amala is one of if not the greatest influencers alive right now . And I’m not saying this as a fan but like more as a critic. Like like she’s sewing fans that changes OK and it’s just a part of life and that you just have to deal with it sometimes. And don’t worry so fing much like you only live once and I respect that as a fan of Doja.

About 5 mins in and I agree with literally everything youre saying! So many tracks were slept on, including "HONEY IN MY TEA" on sound cloud. It felt like sucha hidden gem. It really has a special place in my heart. All of those last few tracks that she still managed to share on soundcloud between Amala and Hot Pink, just ah~ Edit* This was a great video! I appreciate your coverage. I fell off around the Sam Hyde nonsense. I also completely missed that she downplayed covid like that sheesh. But I knew that her latest album would be worth listening to, so maybe I'll finally give it a try.

Ever since Doja got into that beef with Noah she changed but I’m still a fan and I enjoy her music
@liteflightify6 ай бұрын
There was no “beef”. He, for no reason other than clout, publicly revealed a conversation with her that he initiated. She called him out for that. And that was the end of it. You’re giving Noah way too much credit, thinking he was some catalyst to anything 😂.
