Back from an era when people didn't know what to do with the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in worship :(. As Steve unfolds these 400 year old words of prophetic truth, as the Holy Spirit fills them with power and righteousness, how could the people there remain seated or quiet??? When at the end of the third verse, the words are "One Little WORD shall fell him", one of the most beautiful lyric foreshadowing if a final verse ever - how did people not rise to their feet and cheer??? But no...they were more about listening to the performance of a fine voice than listening to the shouting and singing of angels as they rejoiced and celebrated around Steve Green.

@@KennethSee Maybe. I wish it were so for everyone. As a full time Pastor of worship now and back then, my experience was that a large percentage of people of that era approached things like this as performances of a favorite artist rather than as offerings of worship. The music and the presentation was designed to elicit attention and admiration for the performer. Helps to sell the merch! Its still an issue today, it just looks differently. I have worked with a lot of these artists, almost all of them wonderful Christian men and women. Steve Green, Larnelle Harris, Sandy Patti, etc. But they were a product of the culture, and at that time we just didn't know what to do with the exploding "Sacred Pop" music genre (which I have no problem with, when its in its proper place). Sort of against the grain, Steve Green did this a cappella performance of a mighty fortress. IMO, its annointed, powerful and beautifully conceived and done, and puts the focus squarely on the story of God's Amazing strength and love. I am so overwhelmed by its truth and simplicity, that when those powerful words of victory are proclaimed, I know I wouldn't be able to NOT respond in some way, even if to stand in silence, or to fall on my face in light of the poverty of my own state and the enormous grace of God. My apologies if I;m wrong about this particular performance, though I've seen it many times for many decades, and saw Steve do it live. I'm commenting more on what I remember about that era and the cognitive dissonance we often lived with.

Hmmm people have different responses, you know. Look at the demographic. White, mostly 30++ in the 80s. Not exactly the "Go head, sang it, boy!" crowd. The first time I watched this, I scarcely blinked, mouth open, hanging on to every word. I didn't cheer (and I'm black LOL). You can't presume what people felt, sensed, or how they *should* react. Come on. And he got a standing ovation to boot. I think they were captivated.
