It's not inconceivable that in the near future, we have craft that are capable of traversing interstellar space in less than 10k years. And a million days proibably sounded poetic to them.

Colonizing Mars isn’t just about land it’s about resources there’s literally billions of tons of minerals that mars has to offer. Not to mention the scientific discoveries that could be made on mars. And also why wouldn’t we want to go to mars? How boring of a world do you want to live in? Going to mars and living there is a grand adventure for all humanity.
