A Mink Killed Our Chickens.

A mink came into the barn and was able to get into the chicken coop and kill all of our chickens. I set a trap but haven't had any luck yet. Check out some of the game cam footage.

We once lost 10 one night to a fox. I'm the type that will sit up all night and wait... with a little driveway infrared monitor (harbor freight) and a open window... .22 w/scope in hand. It works. Right now we are up to about 80 birds. Mink and fox make nice gloves.

Caught a mink in the act of biting a duck on the back of the neck in my barn, it ran off when I opened the door. She was in some sort of trance and jerked herself alert when I picked her up. She is ok, except she can’t lift her head completely. Moved all animals to the second barn and let my dogs loose in the first barn. I saw on camera my pyrs flush the mink out of the barn. Set some traps, but it didn’t come back until the next week. In between, a skunk showed up. Patched a hole in the outer fence. Mink found the second barn. Lost a drake and a rooster. Pyrs found the mink again, twice, but it’s too fast for them, under normal circumstances. My birds are now split between my garage and my rabbit run-which is all hardware cloth but is the size of a chicken run. 5 mini sheep in garage makeshift barn. This mink is going down, God willing. In total, lost a few chickens, two drakes, and a duck. Will be erecting a dog run along the entire outside perimeter of the barn, setting traps and I’m just here picking the brains of others more experienced. Two of my rabbits live in the first barn, and with the visiting skunk, the use of my Pyrs is limited…so live trap it will be.

Several tubers have said minks will do this...for me..anything that would kill like an insane something is going to taken out...sorry to hear...

Good luck dude her in doors said if it's not mink and it's fox female she does the same as it happens to you once the farmer killed her fox partner and she became a widow she killed by 100 and take 2 only .

A mink just killed all my Nagasaki chickens this week... My husband is also looking for revenge 😞 we have 5 traps and yet we couldn't catch it...

You have wrong setup catching minks. Sardin is ok for bait but if you want to catch mink or some other animal with live trap in winter then be aware that animals does not want to step on cold metal. We catch minks with wooden traps and these catch perfectly. You can improve traps by putting hey or piece of wood on floor. Also minks are burrow animals and when you cower trap then it's also more likely to catch mink. I would put trap on the bank of stream where they use to come out water. To catch foxes with bigger live traps our local hunters dig out upper surface of ground put trap in the hole and put the soil back in hole.

They are nearly impossible to catch. After this happened to us, I set up a trap. Every morning the trap would be closed and the bait gone. They can go through a one inch hole. Then I purchased some commercial grade rat poison and applied it to the bait. The mink never came back. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling to know that death from that particular poison is slow and excruciatingly painful. It’s important to reduce the entrance so that a cat or other innocent animal can’t get in. I also installed half inch hardware cloth throughout the coop and run, including the floor, so it would never happen again.
