Somehow I missed this story. It signified that I had read it, however I realized it didn’t remember it. To my surprise I had not read it. It only took a minute to rectify that mistake 😊. I wasn’t a great fan of Jessica at first. Thankfully she was surrounded by loving family and found her way through her tangle of emotions. As with all your stories the hero was steadfast and a happy ending was had by all. I only regret it took me so long to get to it. Many thanks. 😊

Thank you, Sally! Another wonderful tale that I thoroughly enjoyed. While reading some of the comments below I was struck by a lack of understanding. Unrequited love may illicit strange behavior as it is a painful predicament. Jessica attempts to overcome the rejection of her true love in a way any teenage heart might, in a sour grapes type of fashion. Funnily enough she is unknowingly rather provocative in her mischief. Who was Ellis thinking about when he went to sleep the night he found her drawing of a spider on his pillow? She unwittingly put herself in his thoughts as he was in hers. A sister's duty is not always executed perfectly even if intentions are pure. She learns a lot about understanding, matchmaking, interfering, misgivings, love, patience, and safely breaking a rule or two. Jessica is a caring, compassionate lady. Ellis is fortunate to realize the pain he inflicted and explains his ego at that time with apologies, as Jessica does the same. Life is beautifully wonderful and exasperatingly trying, as you will know, Sally. Did I intrepet correctly, or am I way off the mark? I guess there is no right answer, but there was back in the day when studying . . . 🌷🌷🌷 to you, you incredible novelist.

I listened to Jennie Goutet's A Yorkshire Carol last year (also available for free here on KZbin) and when I started listening to this one, I realized they're loosely connected. So fun! She was the author that introduced me to the Regency romance genre and I am a fan! This story is brilliant. A bit heartbreaking at times, but of course it all works out well in the end.

First, let me say that I truly enjoy the books by Sally Britton, this one included. However, one of my pet peeves with authors is inconsistencies within a book or a series. This one ends with a glaring inconsistency that almost had me arguing with my computer screen. Earlier in the story, Mr. Webb enters the church to sit with his cousins in the family pew that is directly BEHIND the Nettle family pew. In chapter 14 Jessica enters the church to sit with her family in their pew that has somehow moved behind that of the Thackery family. I also found this book harder to follow due to the narrator. So far I have listened to books with three different narrators. Ms. Churchill is less able to distinguish between characters using her voice. This did detract from my enjoyment of listening to the book. I hope I haven't sounded too negative because I certainly do not mean to do so. To Sally Britton: I especially enjoy your author's notes at the end of each story. Thank you.

Yes, there must be loads of trained English voices from the drama schools, so why take on an American who one feels is trying to force every syllable to sound un-American and not usually succeeding.

I understand not every narrator is for every person. This particular narrator is Canadian, trained in British accents - among others - professionally. It's a tall order to speak in a dialect not your own! And I'm so glad you're enjoying the audiobooks!

Even in 2022 emotional intelligence doesn't necessarily mature with ones chronical age. Some people are very prone to hanging onto 'supposed' hurts & 'insults' and make more of them than there ever was originally making grudges continue as they 'love' to feel victimised.

Hi Sally. I have been searching for blind hero hist roms . Another fav theme us a hist rom with cross dressing heroine, who will not be so easily caught out. Can you...... Please?
@AuthorSallyBritton2 жыл бұрын
Okay, I have a book with a blind heroine planned for NEXT YEAR. I've been doing a LOT of research into how the visually impaired were treated and what their lives were like during the Regency. If you enjoy western romances, Sarah M. Eden has a great one called "Love Remains." The hero is IRISH, the heroine BRITISH, and they meet on his farm in the west. She's come to teach his brother, who has recently lost his vision, and she herself is blind. It's not on KZbin, but you can get the audio for it on Audible, iTunes, and I'm pretty sure through Libby or your local library app. It's a favorite of mine! And the narrator does a brilliant job with the accents!

I’m halfway through the book and I have to say Jessica is my least liked protagonist. However, I believe that is saying something for your writing. When an author can cause such strong feelings within their readers to the point of disliking that’s saying something. I’ve never liked the story plot of meddling in someone else’s lives, and the fact that it’s a sibling deciding what she thinks is best for her sister is grading at my sensibility. I also feel sorry for hero, so far he seems like a kicked puppy not knowing what he did wrong. I just hope Jessica can get out of her sisters way and let her make up her own mind, and I hope she ends up deserving her hero, because as of now, she does not deserve his regard.
@AuthorSallyBritton Жыл бұрын
Jessica is very much my least liked heroine. Jane Austen, when she wrote Emma, knew that a meddling character was unlikely to be loved. And she was right. No one - when her book was published - liked Emma the way they had loved Elizabeth. Flawed heroines are often grating to readers. I've often wondered what I could have done to make her even a little more likable.

I have listened to many of your stories and loved them, Thank you. I must say though that Jessica is your first character that I did not like. Too, immature and silly to make me sympathetic to her feelings.
