So, I have seen several reviews on the gauge and while it was built well but not much is able to be calibrated. Also, the gauge markers are so far away from the arrow it is hard to near impossible to make a real accurate setting. The Wood Whisperer did an excellent job pointing out some of the faults.

If harvey sent me a $360 miter gauge for free, I'd do a video on it too. Entirely too expensive for your typical home woodworker. Absolutely gorgeous piece of hardware, and I'm sure it's probably the absolute best in what it does. It's just excessively priced for those of us "getting by". Matt....you do this craft well. Stay grounded and realize not all of your subscribers can afford a beautiful piece like that. :) Thanks for the links to the more affordable miter gauges.

This is an impressive miter gauge, to be sure, but I could never justify spending $360.00 on a miter gauge. Still, it's nice to dream. I can't justify spending $60,000 on a pickup truck, but I still dream about owning one.

I paid $50,000 for my Tundra and I get it. When you want to buy mods for your Truck. Whats another $1000 for something. Similar to Matt with a $3600 Sawstop what’s another $360 for an accessory. I own a Dewalt 7845 table Saw so this miter gauge is almost the same price. If it were $40,then heck yea. I don’t know what can be differences from a Miter gauge vs a Crosscut Sled or an actual Miter Saw for that matter.

Looks sweet, but I don't have any issues with my Delta miter gauge. I screw on a sacrificial fence and use a small "C" clamp and scrap of wood as a stop block. It's pretty much dead on accurate. If I ever hit the lotto I may buy this Harvey gauge, but I don't gamble so that's not going to happen. It's not about how fancy of a tool you have, it's being able to use it and adjust to the limitations it might have. Let the tool teach you what you both can do and then you can upgrade when it's time.

I'm late to the party but I received mine a couple of weeks ago and have major regrets. First, it's supposed to be able to be used on the right side of the fence. Well, it will push wood through the blade on that side but it's a pretty poor excuse for a miter gauge on that side. Notice that is very little information regarding right-side use. It's not an accident, IMO. First, the stop, slider, and pointer are on the wrong end. The pin comes nowhere near the blade. On the left side, it's about an inch from the blade. On the right its 2-1/2", or so. The micro-adjuster is backwards, as well. Second, when the extension bar is moved from the left side of the gauge to the right, the T-slots mirror to the back of the gauge, making a sacrificial fence impossible without drilling through to the slots. I don't think I want to, nor should have to, do this on a $300 tool. Third, when the extension is moved to the right side, it's not square to the table or miter fence. It's out about .065", or 1.6mm at the top. This is unacceptable. This sample also had the large gap between the cursor and compass. Thanks to the Internet, I found the solution for this but I had to force the cursor block as far as possible to close this gap to make reading the angle reasonable. In short, I certainly wouldn't recommend this miter gauge. Knowing this, I would have bought the JessEm. Harvey makes pretty tools but this one is a fail, IMO.

I could not agree with you more on this miter. I bought one probably more than a year ago and, even though it's expensive, it is much better than the incra (and the incra is awesome because I have one of them too). The box is so awesome that I didn't want to get rid of it (I just had to dispose of it to make room in my shop 🙂) . The one advantage the incra has is the angle adjustment. It has a mechanism that allows you to adjust to positive stops at fractional degrees through the whole range of motion. The Harvey is also nice because it makes it easy to bevel cut since the ends of the fence are at a 45 deg angle. As an owner of both, I would be hard pressed to decide which one to buy if I could only have one. I use them both for different things.

Matt what a sweet video and thanks for sharing. I have been like ok’ing at the Harvey lineup and I am certainly impressed and you have sold me. Guess what my problem is. I bought a nice used craftsman table saw and the silly mitter tracks have in four places a goofy little hang over spot on the top of the track. Looking at the mitter gauge it looks like the track is a flat bar from end to end. I’m going to need to save up for a new table saw and miter gauge it looks like. Although from what you have shown and what I have seen in the shops it looks like this tool is a beast of a mitter gauge. Please also revisit how well the gauge has held up over time. In fact I think that would be a great series to veer off occasionally to show the honesty of well tools have held up in the work environment. Because I know as time goes on pieces wear and don’t hold as accurate or operate as well as they did when they were brand new. On the Harvey item I’m more worried about that plastic bushing piece I’m 5 years and where do I get a replacement if it is compromised and worn after use and no longer holds right after years of use. Otherwise the tool looks like a beast. Again a loyal fan and love to see how God has blessed you and I love trying to get started as well.

I have the Kreg Miter Guage, the brass pin that holds the angle is prone to coming out when I am moving the gauge from storage to table saw and the stop block deflects. I don't have a brass pin solution yet, but the Katz-Moses stop block is awesome. My best idea for that pin is a storage solution that holds the gauge at 90%, probably using french cleat for either my wall, or eventually the side of the table saw itself. I have ideas. This fence does have a much better tension adjustment process than Kreg's, so I am jelly about that one. That micro-adjust is awesome! To use fence + miter gauge, I measure an inch farther than intended, then use 1-2-3 blocks on my side of the blade to butt the workpiece against. Bevel Pin??? Go on... Maybe a future video? I'm not familiar with that one. For my hobby budget and uses, I think I'll stick with the Kreg that I already purchased, but I do make one bigger tool purchase each year. I will look into this one after I get a band saw, a spindle sander and maybe a jointer.

I'm needing a new miter gauge and have been looking at the incra and thinking about the Harvey also. They're both really expensive, just trying to figure out which one would be best for me because that's a LOT of money for me.

I've got the Incra in the shop recently and will have it in a video soon. They are expensive but they are high quality tools. Check out Wood Whisperers video on them if you haven't already. He experienced problems with the Harvey that I didn't have. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXO0pa2eeM6Anrs

@@731Woodworks I'm actually watching that video right now. Thanks for the reply and I know it gets said a lot, but thank you for all the content you provide. It's so helpful to us (or at least me) that are trying to get started and don't know what to really purchase or stay away from.

mabey they fixed the slop in these, but id suggest the jessem over harvey if spending this amount of money, and plus you get to support our moose riders up north!

Crazy price on that. I hope they gave it to you for free. I am glad you are doing well but I liked to projects when you had tools that the average person could afford. Not saying they "are" different just concerned about going forward.

Yeah i agree…but i get it. His channel is growing which means he’s getting alot more sponsor related items and free stuff to advertise. I cant knock the guy for that. Hes put in the hard work to grow his channel and business so i think he kinda deserves it. I will say though what made this channel so good in the first place was Matts ability to build beautiful things with just very modest tools everyone has. Not everyone can do that. But like i said I get it and he still puts out awesome content and good information regardless. Matt doesnt strike me as a fella that would ever get to big for his britches anyway so i would recommend everybody keep watchin 👍👍

Nice review but a bit pricey but if you got a sawstop table saw then you’ll want one of these I guess. If you are me I got a table top table saw built into my mobile bench that I got used for 40 bucks this cost more the my bench with my table saw, miter saw and router built into and a couple other tools that are laying around cost oh well I can still make saw dust lol and that makes me happy lol great video anyways

I wanted one of those but own the incra and I just cannot justify that cost. I love their stuff but at that price, the only way I would get one is if gifted or win one of their giveaways. I cannot even look at woodpecker anymore since even the smallest tool is 150.00 and up. Use to be that guy that was like oh yea must have now after the wood price rise and supply shortage no way.

Everything Harvey makes is outstanding!! Their table saws have no comparison. Other then the brake sawstop can’t match the quality

Harvey manufactured the first gen Stopsaw. They currently manufacture Laguna and Powermatic tablesaws.

you might as well go ahead and get the whole table saw at 1749.00 because the miter gauge is included. 360 for just the miter gauze is a bit much.

What you like is what I hate :) Packaging seems way OTT, so much waste :/. I know it looks and feel premium but I find premium products packaged in a responsible way. Good review thought :).

This is definitely not a beginner woodworker tool. The price of $350 in my opinion is even priced beyond an intermediate since there are so many miter gauges out there that are priced below $100 that are JUST AS GOOD.

That’s a really nice motor gauge it would be great to own one but if they put that in every Saul that used they sold they would have to raise the price $350-$450

There is one major design flaw: When the gauge is set to 45 degrees or more, tightening the knob tilts the fence back so that it is not square to the table surface. That means that angle cuts of stock up to 31/4 inches are not square. To correct this design flaw, one must place a shim of .025 to .027 between the gap so that tightening down the knob doesn't tilt the fence. I own this gauge. I appreciate all its strengths, but this should have been foreseen by the manufactures.

Also the flip stop doesn’t fit close enough to the table allowing smaller stock to sneak by, also using the brass dowel on the flip stop stock cut on a angle cannot sit flush allowing the mitre cut to go under the brass stop. Also with the the 45 on the aluminum fence you can’t cut stock with the mitre smaller than 3-1/2”, Harvey also claims they have the longest fence with extension on the market which they do not. It has one thing no other fence has though and that’s a the largest price tag.
