Wonderful! I’ve done the same with a Pith sketchbook. I’ve dedicated it to Emma Carlisle’s “what happens if…?” play method of experimenting. Just pulling out materials randomly and combining them, working over surfaces as I wish. Nothing is ever finished, deli paper between most of the pages. 😂

That little white smudge of pastel really brought the whole piece to life. bravo! 😂 I have the little Brian paint sticks, which look to be the same. I originally bought to use when doing art with children, but absolutely love love love using them in mixed media.

Awesome go at abstract. It takes practice to let go and not think about how the end result "should look". There were definitely 2 or 3 in which were really good at not being a landscape as such!! Great attempt. Jo.😊

Workable fixative spray works great for fixing charcoal and such and being able to work over it and it won’t smudge the lines and dries faster than a layer of mat medium. If you want to give that a try. And of course thanks for sharing all your lovely art 😊

I have Pastel fixative, which I used on top layers, but never thought about going over the top of it. I wonder if this is the same as a workable fixative. I'll have to investigate!

Loved seeing this. I’m terrible at abstract art. It’s like my brain just can’t function in that way. But I do appreciate the art that others do. Tell your husband that his contribution of that bit of white really made the whole painting! Do the tempera sticks keep reactivating with water after they dry or just when you lay them down (or shortly thereafter)? That Pith book looks tempting to get. I love how it lays flat. Thank you for another great video, Helen. You are such an inspiration.

I will definitely tell my husband - thanks 😂 Yes, I tested after, and the Temperature sticks do reactivate after drying. Very like gouache.

Really enjoy seeing you play with the materials and art styles. The pink book had some very nice abstract art, love the Flashe paint textures from the second book, it almost reminds me of oils and the textures you can build. Souds like you're having a lot of fun which is the most important thing. Keep up the creative work!

I adore the page of mini abstracts!! Absolutely love the colours/shpaes and seeing your process of working through the layers after you picked it up from where you previously left off. Fun!! Helen, after seeing this range of abstracts, I'm pretty certain that abstracts are your thing. I love all of your different styles, splodge and scribbles and your seascapes are fabulous but these really are fantastic. You seem to have a very similar colour sensibility to me and I LOVE playing and letting go. However, I'm a portrait artist so I don't generallydo that too much. Really need to find out a way of marrying the two: "realistic" v "let's have a party"! Also, have been searching for the Gelatos since you messaged me a couple of weeks ago and have actually found a set of 28 here in Australia for $105 👍. I think that's quite a good price! Anyhoo, hope you're still having a fun time away. Cheers, Beverley

That's so nice of you to say!! Thank you! When it's going right, abstract art does feel extremely joyful! I do think it's hard to figure out how to do all the different art styles that I like - I'm not sure where it means 'my' natural style lies yet. Good luck with your process too, and I'm glad you found some Gelatos!

Hello Helen, I've recently bought a few sets of Distress Crayons (6 Stk in a Set pro 11 Euro). And I'm very satisfied with them. They dry completely and are nice to use. The color doesn't correspond with barrels but I can deal with it. I have these Tempere Sticks and Flasch Paints on my shopping card but still didn't decide to buy them. If you like to use them, please show us more of your experience and impressions. Thanks!
@helencryer7 ай бұрын
I've not used them before, but they look nice! I think probably drier than these Tempera sticks? I've done a few videos in the past with the Flashe paints, which I love (the consistency, colours, that they dry matte), but I'd say that if you want to try them out, just buy the white Flashe paint, and colour it with other mediums. I did a video on doing this here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bn_Vmat6l9Z8l6c Other Flashe paint videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oF6Qd2xuosR0ma8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/anSrc2CZjaplh8U

How did you find working with the Woody sticks. Are they like colour pencils, Chromacolour etc., and are they as good as top brands? Interested as they also have my nickname on them. 😄 Those Tempera sticks also, do they go on in a creamy kind of way and how long do you think a stick would last?
@helencryer7 ай бұрын
I like the Woodies, they're creamy and enjoyable, though you can't get any kind of detail with them. I don't use them loads, but they're always fun when I do. I don't think they have Lightfast ratings, so not professional, but the leads are just as nice. The Tempera sticks are kind of creamy/waxy, fairly similar to smooth oil pastels. The tubes are about 2/3 full, and I think they'll last a decent amount of time - the colour is quite dense and pigmented, so I didn't seem to be using much up.
