I just can’t with charcoal or conte or pastels because of the sound and the texture through my hands. I’ve tried to get over it but it gets worse the longer I use the medium.

Informative video. I think you would love the green earths from A Gallo. They rewet a little better than others i've tried. The colours are a bit stronger, too and granulate.

It looks like I followed the Artist’s Way from Sep 29 until Nov 15 (according to my daily pages). I’m not sure if I might have done a little bit extra in the book, but stopped my morning writing? Like you, I do want to complete the program, but I think it’s on hold until I take an extended work-break and can focus on art and creativity. Lovely review of past purchases… seems like you enjoyed almost everything!

I love all things charcoal, tinted charcoal, so this was a great overview. The Derwent tinted charcoal pencils are nice, too, and easier to carry along a couple on a plein air/travel sketching outing. The small 6 pencil set has some nice dark landscape colors and is a pretty affordable way to try out their tinted charcoal line.

Hi Helen! I bought Rosa Gallerys Jade green and Cobalt grey after seeing you last year swatch them out and they are both almost empty now. :D I already ordered the tubes to fill them up again. In fact I bought a lot of things because I saw you use them. :D I appreciate the time you take to film all that!

I really like your watercolor and oil pastel painting at 11:29 it reminds me of the Bay of Islands here in NZ and I'd love to be able to capture them in this style. I don't really like oil pastels though, and I don't own any, so I guess I'll end up capturing the islands in my own way/style 😂

@@helencryer I need to practice with them a bit to see what I can do with them. I'm putting together a small mixed media bag with between 4-6 colors of each medium. It's for landscapes. I'll pick a few colors to add to that. Any color suggestions?
@helencryer11 сағат бұрын
I don't know the Derwent Pastel Pencil colours off-hand, but I'd just pick a few that tone in with the regular landscape colours you use. A really dark brown/blue/green, plus white will always be useful.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and purchase some of the Sennellier Oil Pastel Fixitive but I just find it hard to justify such a high price. I've been using my other fixitives with my oil pastels, which aren't particularly fabulous but they'll do for now, until I see a can of the Sennellier on special! Also, books are generally never a disappointment or "regret" are they? Whilst I'm unable to "read" more than a paragraph without getting unwell cos of the neuro complications, I LOVE buying art books as I'm just looking at pictures. Otherwise, I have an Audible account with almost 600 books in it at this stage 🤭. Interesting vid. Cheers Helen 😊
@helencryer11 сағат бұрын
Most of the time I don't bother with it, in sketchbooks and stuff, but occasionally it's useful. I only look at the pictures too! 😬 Sometimes I've bought books I end up not loving, but it happens less nowadays, because I spend more time looking them up online first.

I've had lino blocks and cutting tools here for a few years but I've not gotten around to doing anything with them yet. It was something I planned to teach my daughter. That press looks really useful. I'll have to see if hubby can make a couple of boards like you had there for cutting on and I need a roller and probably something else I won't know I need until I start lol. It's been a long time since I did lino printing at school. We also did a couple of other things too. I can remember scratching a bird design onto thick plastic like xray sheets and then printing with that. Then later at high school we etched with acid into metal plates.

I remember making linoprints in school ( ages ago) and I strongly remember just being so confused , for some reason, what to scrape away and what not and halfway through getting lost and changing the areas I shouldn't scraped away xD it was a right mess .. I think I said it was on purpose and said oh it's abstract 😂 . Having the print in colour and as linol is really cool , it makes it look so different even though it's the same picture.
