John, first of all, you are a good man. My aunt spent most of her adult life living in a mobile home which she paid for. It was neat, clean, respectable and what she could afford. It's nobody's business to criticize you for servicing mobile homes. Mobile home dwellers deserve to have their HVAC serviced by you just as much as anyone else. Don't let the haters get you upset. They are just talking out of their @sses. How you run your business and who you service is your decision to make, not some snob who has a keyboard and no sense. God bless you.

God bless you. I live in New Jersey. My husband came down with early-onset Alzheimer's. He was 21 years older than me. The last seven years he developed cancer. I could no longer carry him up and downstairs where we lived. I needed a user-friendly living space. A place I could see him no matter where he was. A place that I didn't have to lift him up p stairs. That meant moving to a manufactured home. His illnesses financially devastated us. Brand new manufactured home Nothing but trouble with hvac since we moved in. 500 a year to top of coolant. Three different companies. The problem in my opinion is the developers who installed the house and hvac cut corners., Place cheaper units.. most of all their people don't know what they are doing. But.. I'm 71 years old.. I barely survived my husband's illnesses.. I have lupus.. and I still need help. Sometimes things aren't what they appear. I'm not living in a manufactured home because I wanted to. it was the only viable option for me to keep my husband out of a nursing home where they would have had to tie him down every night or lock him in a safe room. He was a Korean war veteran. When he sundown he thought he was a prisoner of war.

It's so good to hear someone who will actually work on Mobile Homes. I'm a Widow. I'm 60 years old. I have done electrical , plumbing, and built a new deck. I'm not shi&%ing you, I called every danged place in town. You know what they all told me? " We don't work on Mobile Homes". I live in Southeastern Kansas. My home is 28' x I think 32'. It has a cement block foundation, and I'm keeping it up as best I can. So...I bought a ceramic box heater, and a Window AC unit when they went on clearance the last two seasons. Well, guess what happened today? My frigging furnace Quit. I needed to hear everything you said here tonight, because you know what? I worked my ass off , and my body fell apart. My Late Husband worked his ass off, and Agent Orange killed him anyway, at the age of 69. I'm sick of life. Every time I get something taken care of, something else dies. I'm just DONE. But Thank You for your kindness, and others who don't judge others. God Bless.

That's the reason I do everything myself also because no one services mobile homes. My HVAC system is a package unit because they don't take up any indoor space, they are quieter, and I can replace them myself. They are also easy to work on as far as replacing components such as capacitors, contactors, and fan motors. The only thing I can't do is recharge the unit but I will learn at some point. I only found 2 local solar installers who do mobile homes even though I wanted a ground mount system and I own the land outright. I had the system installed but it was a bit of a challenge finding someone to do it.

I appreciate your insight. I also hope the hvac contractor I deal with is forthright & reasonable as you appear to be. My wife and I live in a 30x70 manufactured home we placed on the Washington coast in 2010 as a vacation home. We recently retired, sold our stick built home & moved full time to the beach. Anyway, as a vacation home on the Wa coast there wasn’t much need for AC but now that we’re living here full time I’m looking into a retrofit on our forced air electric furnace. That’s what brought me to this video. By the way, I would consider myself one of the people you referred to in this video. Retired, no debt whatsoever, plenty of savings and not by spending money frivolously, I could care less what other people think and screw keeping up with the Joneses!

The traps dry out in the winter. I had a bunch of trouble with an airhandler that had a leaking A coil at the start of every summer. It took me 4 years of changing coils before I realized the Condensation drain was plumbed into the sewer. It had a drain trap but during the winter it was sucking in ammonia gas which corrodes the crap out of aluminum and copper. I learned the hard way.

It makes sense for that home to have a system that large due to the climate. I have a 3 ton heat pump package unit which works well even in the low teens to single digits and it has no auxiliary heat, it doesn't need it. I usually use my wood stove in the winter months due to less solar production though.

I've been doing mobile homes since 2001. I work for 4 MH sales centers that sold about 300 homes a year, mostly double wide with a few mixed in single wides. I run 4 men in 2 trucks. We connect the 12" crossover duct, the dryer vent, the gfci electrical outlet and wire our own heat pumps ( I hold electrical and hvac licence). Those items are extra charge. I profit over $200,000 a year not to mention service calls and my men do all the work. I make $1500 profit on a 3 ton install + about $ 500 on the extras and it takes about 6 hours total for two men. I'll take MH work any day.

Great to see you posting videos, John. I grew up in Louisiana and I knew a lot of people that lived in Mobile Homes during the week. During the long weekend they had a log cabin or house on the Lake or Bayou that was about 5,000 Sq Ft. They lived in Mobile homes to be near work. I never understand people that judge a book by it's cover. And by the way....work is work. A Ruud in a house, a trailer or a outhouse is still the same Ruud system. What difference does it make? You are making money and not having to be in some freaking hot attic. And another thing about Louisiana. It is freaking hot!! Mobile homes get twice as HOT as a normal wooden structure!! The Tonnage of any unit goes up a ton in Louisiana and other hot states. A certain SQ FT house that would have a 2.5 ton in Georgia will be a 3 or 4 ton unit in Louisiana. It has to not only cool but get out that freaking 100% humidity that is almost the majority of the year!!!

I have lived here for 16 years. And have been through at least six hurricanes. Four of them direct hits. Two roofs and carports. Not anymore damage than some of the brick and mortar homes. My big problem is my air-condition is blowing dirt onto my ceiling. How can that leak be fixed. By the way! I commend you on starting a business without going into great debt. I'll never understand why people tend to assume mobile homes are all rundown and crappy, occupied by people with no money. I know of a lot of trailer parks around here that are kept up, with an HOA that actually has standards, everything looks maintained and in good shape. I've even seen a doublewide that was put on a foundation with a walkout basement! These people all have money, and they also have a home with a system that needs to be worked on or replaced. Like you, I see no reason to either turn those customers down, or automatically just do it as cheap and sloppy as possible. If the guy has a 2400SQ/FT doublewide, I see no reason to approach it any differently than a house of the same size built on a foundation.

Look how many techs put 3.5 ton on 16x80, which is only 180 sf difference, but would install 7 ton verses 5. Love your videos

Okay folks, hope you don't mind a bit of a lecture / constructive criticism for all the haters who comment about John's work. Especially about the market segment he's in. It's difficult to overstress how important community KZbin like John does is for us who are just starting out. I'm in England and residential A/C is a market which is just taking off. High-end is well-established but we're now moving into mass market. That brings its own challenges. It's easy to make money at the top end, but that is of course a narrow market. The real big cash is going to be in the mid and low end -- volume business. We have nothing to go on here about how to do that in England. It is a totally new market. It is only by watching you guys who help everyone out by posting. I have learned a tonne about how to service and create lower and mid level business from John's KZbin -- how important it is to take a job (so long as it makes money), what you can find, what you have to deal with -- and how to do it quickly and well and sometimes how to improvise. They can't all be refurbing Buckingham Palace. The comments -- when they are relevant and helpful -- are a big part of picking up knowledge. So please, if you do comment, can you do those of us who are here only trying to learn a big favour and keep your mouths shut if all you can do is say things like "did they forget the banjo" or lazy jibes about hicks and where's the MAGA hats yada yada yada. So they live in a mobile home? So they're in the Bayou? I don't care. It means nothing to me. If people want to comment on that, there's loads of other places on the internet they can do that in. It don't need to be done here. Thanks for listening to my sounding off. Hope you get why I'm saying it.

Done it myself many times,we have many two many Wana be contractors, out here ,don't know Jack about heat loads, cooling loads, much less static pressure, superheat, subcooling, I'm with u ,u don't want floodback,I just got through putting a 5 ton Rheem in and put the upgrade blower in, u have a high latent load in your area, don't pay attention to the wannabees, the wanabees cut corners , their are excellent contractors out there that use technology instead rule of thumb, they even make a low profile safety switch for mobile home pans.if u don't charge enough u go out of business eventually, the 500 profit will go away after 1 warranty call back, people has to have a place to live.ive done clean rooms to mobile homes , I don't pay attention to know it alls and haters .it's called technology, God bless u John some of us out here are in the same boat.

John the newer mobile homes are getting big and nice you should see them prefab houses too. Buying a mobile home is faster then waiting for a house to be built I also am here on Texas Its 75 out today cooling off but has been in the 80s to my ac is still on. I have a 2.5 ton unit it struggles on hot days for even a 900 sqft house. When. Its cooler it does great. I feel I should have bought a larger unit though. Tonnage is based on size and heat load. If you have a 1,00p sqft house and you size a unit based on that which is a 3 ton the unit wont cool properly. You also need to account for heat load. This is actually where the 2 stage units come in handy when it's hot out it ups the capacity. I should have gotten a 2 stage say on hot days ot runs a 4 or 5 tones and cooler days 2 tone capacity. People don't get it that just sizing a unit based on sqft doesn't work not down in the south where temps easily get over 100.00 you have to account for the heat load. Also older homes like mine have shitty insulation so the heat load is greater and a unit sized properly will not work properly. Now I also have a 900 or larger sqft store that has apartments on top the building is well insulated we went with 1.5 Ton unit it cools perfectly even on 100 degree days. Again people don't get a property's sqft is just a basic calculation it means nothing if you don't consider heat load and in cooler climets the opposite cool load if that's even a term you always always consider the load to be put on the unit your installing. I had a house that had to units the house was 2600 sqft. The house had a 3 .0 and a 2.0 tone units. The house never cooled properly the units ran non stop. We had the units changer and upsized the ac contract gave us hell saying the units where to large. We put a 4 ton on the main floor and went back with another 2.0 because the guy insisted that 2.0 was enough and only the main floor needed upsizeing and the unit we wanted was even to large. Well first summer the main floor was kept ice cold unit came on froze you out . The upstairs unit ran non stop and could barely maintain 78. It ran like that a few years we called the guy out unit is fine so we say we want a 3 ton unit upstairs he's all like it's to big it will short cycle I look at him I said I want a ton do it or I will find some else who will we also had all the duct work and furnaces changed. After the new 3 tone unit when in we never had ac issues again thenhouse was kept a comfortable 74 degrees and the electric bill went down we choose raheem units. The house has since been sold the units where put in in 2008 and house as sold in 2018 in the 10 years we had the house since the units where changed not one complaint on the ac units and that used to be the biggest complaints the house is hot and the electric bill is high. I dont understand why people have it engraved in there heads that the sqft of the property is all that matters because it dont. I actually think the sqft measure ment is useless if you have 2 house both exactly the same size one new built to energy guidelines and a house built in the 50s or even a historic house built in the 1900s the older house will need a larger unit then the newer better insulated home. Since the new house has good insulation and windows the heat load will be less. The older home with little to now insulation with big not sealing properly windows and doors will have a larger heat load thus needing a larger unit. Also the climate the home is located means everything hotter climates need bigger units then cooler climates. I think it should be required to do heat load calculations when selecting an HVAC system.

I just was so blessed to find you!!!! Oh my gosh!!! Our Intertherm/Nordyne HVAC system was hit by lightning earlier this year and the control panel is dead. I can replace it myself - but my brother told me to find out if there is more than one control panel. I desperately need your help. We live in TN and it has been absolutely FREEZING here and space heaters are too expensive to run (but we run them anyway ugh). I am not sure how to contact you if you don't see this.... we really need your help. (In the beginning of your video I hear you say that people give you a hard time - don't even waste your time explaining ANYTHING to anyone ever on why you do something. You are gifted and you keep doing you and try to ignore negativity. That is satan trying to bring you down!! Blessings
