This furnace was installed in my home in 2011. The blower motor had to be replaced in 2016...a few months after the warranty expired, of course. Now the blower motor is overheating all the time (4 flashing green lights) and I haven't been able to get anyone in to fix it. I wish I had never agreed to a new furnace as they old one was incredibly reliable.

Blower motors are typically very reliable if the correct size furnace is installed and the ducting is checked to make sure it doesn't restrict airflow. There could be a problem that with the ducting that needs addressing. Best to find a local contractor to help you. (maybe a different one than the one who installed it)

Your "new" furnace is the exact furnace I have in my MH. I am getting an error code (3 light flashes) saying the air switch isn't closing. I have that same exact N/O air switch as you and it is brand new. I suspect my inducer fan isn't working and I wonder if you have a video that might show a way for a homeowner to check that fan is working properly before I spend the $60 on a new one.

Fundamentally the guts on both units are very similar. From my experience the only downside on the new unit is the plastic doors. Everything else is an improvement. Older units need to be checked annually for safety faults like a cracked heat exchanger

I was wondering about the handle gap on the old furnace, which is what I have, and I thought the filter was supposed to cover it. Mine does have a wire frame-like device to hold the filters in. Very informative. I'd love to see more. We're living in a mid 70's 1400 SQ FT DualWide. The heat & a/c comes out of ceiling ducts and returns via floor ducts. May want to replace the heat & a/c system (quite old and still working). Based on research I can see the outside unit, air handler, and vent stack being replaced. The duct work is pretty much sealed above the ceiling and behind the belly band beneath the trailer. Whatever resources / references / suggestions you might have regarding systems like the Coleman would be great as I research my options. BTW CA utility costs are pretty high, so might want to consider options of heat pump vs. gas / electric for heating and cooling. Pretty mild climate where we live. Thanks!

I've worked on those Coleman furnaces for several years, most you don't see anymore in mobile homes in Florida, they come equipped with the Intertherm electric furnaces EB12's or EB15's with that model you are displaying in your video, that's either the Presidential or Presidential 2, it's probably at best an 80,000btu input and 54,000btu output; they are capable of handling a lot of BTU's You mentioned about the fan size being small, if it didn't have an A/C package; which came with the larger blower and motors, those units are capable of upwards to 5tons of cooling, I've upgraded them from standing spark to electronic spark ign. with the smart valves. Those Old furnaces are pretty decent, the motors can be upgraded to ECM motors as the new ones.

@@jmairnheat True indeed, that's mostly why they went away from them, smaller applications such as singlewide mobile homes they use electric ones, if they are downflow which most likely will be Intertherm, those Coleman units are now made by York, which we don't see here in FL unless we are replacing them, even at that; they are replaced by gas packs or heat pumps. The airflow problem has always been in issue, it's just a trunk line stretched the length of the structure, no transitions or nothing, just an aluminum box lol, they stick a 12" piece of flex in them and call it a crossover for Doublewides

Thank you for this review. I replaced the old furnace you have there with the new one your talking about. Thing runs great the only thing I notice is I sucks a lot of air from inside my house to the point I can feel the cold air getting sucked from the window and doors! Why is it doing that? My old furnace did not suck air from inside the house. I notice you mention the roof jack i didn’t replace it with my furnace is that the issue? You mention something about how it sucks air from outside from there. My installer said mi jack still looked good. But the jack is for pilot version and not the new??? If you have any issues explanation that can help me out I would gladly appreciate it! FYI it’s the same jack that was installed with the old furnace.

Thank you for this great video! I'd love to see a quick maintenance checklist for the many renters who want to make the most of the older models that aren't going to get replaced. For instance, should the scruffy filters be taped or held in place with strong magnets somehow, or can a newer filter be jimmied to fit, or would a newer filter be a problem in an older machine? Should the filters be cleaned with water or a vacuum, and how often? Should the inside of the unit be lightly vacuumed (with the power to the unit cut, of course) to reduce the amount of dust/lint that gets by the filters? Thanks!!!

We have an old Coleman Presidential furnace in our old 1972 Holly Park mobile home, that since last fall when we replaced the thermostat has been cycling too often to suit me. lol It will run for about 5 mins, getting the house up to the right temp, then cycle off, then in about 5 min. it will cycle back on again. Is this normal? We have owned this mobile home for about 19 yrs and this is really the first problem we have had with this furnace. It really keeps the house warm and I am not looking to replace it unless it is a necessity. Could it be the new thermostat is faulty? Or am I just nuts for worrying about something that does keep the house warm, but seems to be on too often? Thanks for this video, and I am learning here as I go. New digital controls have different heat-anticipation settings. Depending on the control, there may be nothing you can do. Contact the installer or manufacturer of the control. Additionally, if you also updated the windows with dual pane, or some other energy efficient upgrade, the old furnace may be too large for the home, which can also cause that.

Dear J&M..if you ever check old videos for questions, I recently got one of these installed and he set the blower motor at the highest level to where my house is not actually heating very much..the air is going somewhere..but not warming as it should. He doesn't seem to have time to return my calls, lol. I think I know where to adjust the speed but can't get any details off you tube. It's the plastic connector thingie up next to the motor with the multiple wires, right? That's what the furnace door schematic said. I had a Coleman Presidential II furnace in my old 1981 Skyline mobile home. It ran on propane and had the pilot light. It exploded one afternoon during the fall of 1998. And when I say exploded, I literally mean that. I was outside walking in the driveway and it sounded like a military cannon went off. I looked at the trailer and smoke was coming out of the roof jack. Luckily it didn’t cause any fire but it smelled funny when I ran inside. I shut the power off, pulled the doors off the furnace and it had blown a huge red spot on the inside of the bottom panel. The repairman said that the insides had just disintegrated. I assume something had rotted internally and developed a slow propane leak, and when it went to fire off, it ignited all of that propane it had leaked inside of itself.

That's why you do periodic inspections of such furnaces. If certain things appear to be compromised by rust, find replacements and fix it. The biggest issues are likely propane lines and the heat exchanger. If the heat exchanger leaks, carbon monoxide. If propane lines leak, boom.

@jmairnheat
@jmairnheat 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. Great question. Static pressure is important on all systems, one thing we have discovered is that most systems are oversized and when properly sized less air flow is required and the static pressure is less of an issue. Less airflow = lower static when the duct is the same size. In some cases we have to increase the crossover duct. sometimes there is nothing you can do for a reasonable cost. When the duct is really bad I recommend ductless system.

My 1978 mobile home furnace has a separate closet access outside and it’s a updraft into the roof cavity-attic duct work . Extremely quiet but very difficult and expensive to upgrade the duct work .
@jmairnheat
@jmairnheat 2 жыл бұрын
We see a lot of those. The ducting in the attic is basically impossible to upgrade/replace. We see issues with air flow to the opposite corners of the home. For the money, ductless is a better option.

I just moved into my home and I have a Nortek MG2R furnace. I see the filter on the door (it's the cut to size rather than a standard), but there is also a filter shoved in next to the blower motor on the right side. Is that supposed to be there? Also, I've seen photos of having to replace the black material on the sides of the blower motor. Is that something I need to do? My furnace in my old home was standard, so the filter slipped into a slot near the floor (simple). This is all new to me and I can't seem to find ANY information online (or in the manuals) about the filters, how many there are, where they should be, and replacing them. Any advice would be appreciated as your video has the most info I've seen so far. Thank you
@jmairnheat
@jmairnheat Жыл бұрын
You just need the filters in the door. They should not be loose fitting. If you need a larger size than what is there that is fine. The goal is just to have a filter that fits and doesn't come loose.

I have a weird question I guess.. My Coleman Evcon electric furnace has cold air coming from the closet room that the furnace is in when my AC is on in the summertime. Right now I put a hanging temp reader in this closet and its reading 54 degrees while my house is at 72-74 degrees. The room is a little bigger than the furnace itself. Is that normal? the trailer is a 1999 model.
@jmairnheat
@jmairnheat Жыл бұрын
there is likely a cooling coil attached to the electric furnace, on some you can see it easily, it looks like the letter A on top of the furnace. You might have leakage or air bypassing the furnace somehow and recirculating in the closet. Not normal, but also probably not a huge problem. It really depends on the circumstances. I recommend you have a service done, do some maintenance on you system and have the guy check it out while he is there.

I have had trouble educating myself on if a central air unit can be installed under this Colman furnace- per Redit the whole furnace needs to come out of the closet for say. Then a coil has to be installed- then need to confirm my electric panel will be able to have the circuit added Basically I’m wondering what direction to go would raither have central air than the mini split can this be done and what am I researching for? Would like to be prepared for the cost. So far a mini split looks like 1,500 For central need coil and condenser per redit the coil is 300.00 and not sure on the condenser have not gotten that far I’m guessing a 3-4 ton?

Lifetime to the original owner is usually how that goes. So unless you purchased the home new, or the furnace new, you are probably out of luck on that. You might be able to replace just the heat-exchanger, but honestly, if it has gone bad, I'd replace the whole furnace.
