You wouldn’t believe how much hate and poorly treated I was because of taking that second lunch. It’s very discouraged because they lose money every second you’re not on the line. It sucks because I love Tesla but they treat employees bad especially me because of my lunch. I denied me a third rest break because I take a second lunch saying my lunch counts as a rest break. It is very illegal what they are doing. Luckly because of me people now get their entitled breaks. Management really tries to take your breaks away so you can work more. Worst part is they are strict on sitting down they force you to stand 12 hr even if there are no cars. Avoid working here unless you want to destroy your body and be restless.

So many bots commenting. Workers deserve respect, decent pay, reasonable hours, time off, safety on the job, and a union. No business owner can run a whole factory on his own. If you and a buddy start a company and both work equally on the product, they are partners or the company doesn't exist. Every employee is trading time and skills (even if they learn the skill there) for a paycheck and they are necessary to make the product or provide the service. In the 1950-1970s, the CEO earned on average less than 30x the median worker. If the median worker earned $100/check, the boss earned $3000/check. I would say that is a bit much considering that start up companies usually have the employees earning a check and the boss earning next to nothing until 2 or 3 years of production or providing services. Now CEOs often earn 180-300+ times of the median worker, yet the boss doesn't do more than bosses did in the 50s to the 70s. Not only the employees are being hurt because of employers lying about unions and treating workers badly, the products/services, innovation, and quality is being hurt. A happy worker will collaborate, innovate, and produce better quality with increased quantity.

The pay mentioned is $20/ hr. Hours worked were 12/day. By law any hours after 8 in a working day is time and a half (1.5 x $20 = $30 hour). So a 12 hour day pays ($20 x 8) + ($30 x 4) = $280. But any hours above 40 in a work week is time and a half. So some time on Thursday the pay rate jumps from $280/day when the employee hits the 40 hour mark to $360/day. Those are brutal hours to work, for a $20/ hour job (12 x 7 = 84 hours worked). But lots of overtime gives big money. ($20 x 40) + ($30 x 44) = ($800 + $1,320) = $2120/week. The worker is knocking down better than $2,000/ week gross pay. That’s better than $100,000 a year. Welcome to the world of the hard working middle class. 😎

The problem with overworked workers seems easy to solve, hire more workers. To get more workers: pay more per hour. When inducting new workers, let them ramp up to grueling work, start them off with a week at four hours per day, bump it up to six the next two weeks, then the full 8 hours shift at week four and beyond. This is to prevent and remove the pain from DOMS, which is what happens from suddenly exerting an amount of exercise your body isn't accustomed to. More workers with shorter shifts is the only way to keep up with a breakneck production rate.

Warehouse work is manual labor. Doesn't matter if its name is Tesla, Amazon, Intel, or whatever. If you think it's going to be interesting and fun you have never worked in one before and shouldn't kid yourself.

"Dennis Duran, who worked at Tesla's Bay Area plant for 5 years" what the hell took him so long? Why didn't he speak out, fear of getting fired? Were there no other job opportunities around or was the pay just that damn good that he was fine sticking it out for 5 whole years? Aren't there a ton of jobs in the Bay Area for someone capable of keeping a job at Tesla for 5 years?
@mang07152 жыл бұрын
The pay! If you don’t live in the Bay Area u wouldn’t understand. It’s ridiculously expensive. Especially if you don’t have a degree, the pay & amount of hours really gets you locked in.

Lol..you think they make a lot at Tesla. He hires contract temps so he doesn't have to offer benefits or profit sharing. Guy tries to skip OSHA requirements for safety. Know wonder people get hurt. it just one of the reasons Tesla's always getting sued. So much miss management if it wasn't for Elon leaking all these ideas to the media they would be out of business

Agree. I grew up in a town in Ontario. It was a "GM town". Pretty much everyone that didn't go to college, ended up working at General Motors. A few complained, but most didn't. People who worked there could afford a home in the same town, could afford to raise their kids, and drove new GM cars. And had the security of a decent pension after they reached retirement age. Workers stayed their for their entire careers. They were proud to say they "they worked at GM". The only way this positive employer/employee occurred was due to the union. While upper management might complain about the union, it many ways the union had a lot to do with the companies success. The tearing down of unions has resulted in assembly line workers unable to achieve a living wage ($23 an hour is NOT a living wage in the bay area!). These workers can't buy a home in the town where the plant is, can't afford a new car, can't afford to raise kids, and have zero security on retirement. The loss of unions has also affected all non-union workers as well. When GM had all these benefits, local non-union companies had to offer similar benefits in order to attract workers. So even non-union company employees absolutely benefitted from the unions. The anti-union movement punished all workers, not just the union companies. Today, very few private companies have any kind of pension plan. Unions help us all.

No, nobody forced them to work for Tesla, but I'm sure they were looking for opportunities in a decent, successful job environment when they got in, and I appreciate their courage to make this video and calling Tesla out for the exploiting, inhumane and profit over people conditions they must have, all while Elon Musk pretends to be the coolest new kid in the block. On what side are you by the way? On the capitalist exploiting one? Unbelievable!!!

Sweat shop isn't about pay. I could pay you $100/hr, but work you 20 hours a day...are you saying that isn't sweat shop conditions? Definition for you "A sweatshop is a crowded workplace with very poor, socially unacceptable or illegal working conditions." Sound familiar? The poor doesn't mean poor people, it means poor conditions.

@knightingg83243 жыл бұрын
Sweat shop? I do not think so. I have worked in many warehouses many. Tesla facility is by far the best with all the free cereal and meals etc. if you get ran over by equipment it’s because you or another worker is not following proper safety policy. During orientation the reps go over this stuff time and time again but people fall asleep, they are on their cell phones and talking. Working with a sense of urgency does not = equal sweat shop. My gosh what has USA come too? The only bad thing about Tesla facility is the parking problem. There must be a way we can get people to come to work and not fight for parking spaces. That has to do with shift change. Why does Tesla have a shift end at 5:30pm and then for one to begin right at 5:30pm? Who is the idiot that thought this is a good idea? You want one shift to end first so there will be parking spaces for those that are coming in or else people start fighting. Other than that I it’s not a bad place to work and get money.

When you lied about Tesla on behalf of the union the truth will generally surface. Multiple unions have been charged and imprisoned for using union dues inappropriately. How about the working condition, wages, and benefits in other union factories are not as good as Tesla today.

Yeah I’ve worked here for a bit and yeah it’s very stupid everyone here is overworked and they don’t have safe equipment, for example the drills they have twist your wrist from the torque all the time and they will slave workers making them pickup more work if they’re partner in there work station is gone. Trust me it’s not sustainable at all. Most the time we’re so hurt on man power bc no one stays at this job that’s why there always hiring

Good Lord ..page 12 of comments now and I can hardly take it. When I was 20 years old, I packed boxes full of school desks, in a dark dingy dirty 110F factory in Central Texas with NO AC, NO FANS, NO BREAKS except for 30 min lunch ... all for $3.75 an hour. A drill that twists your arm due to torque? That is the only way they can work. C'mon guys, somehow we have to toughen up as a society or all will be lost. :(

Quit and find another job. What were these people doing before ? They must have worked somewhere else. People should not put up with this kind of tyranny not for money not for anything complaining self pitty and blaming the crazy inhumane management won't help they won't change as long as people come to work. The management does it because people let them do it. That's because of fear and lack of courage. Save some money and get out. It is a choice not destiny.
