The Supreme Court refused to follow the very clear language of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. Instead, they muddied it and made up their own rules. I believe it was spearheaded by Roberts, who although he pretends to want to make the best decisions, has become entranced by his own cleverness and created this disaster, helped by Alito and Thomas.

One saving grace is that there is no law that would stop the courts from running every day before, after and even DURING election day. Though I don't see a trial on election day doing anything but causing a myriad of logistical problems, so that day would likely be skipped.

No judges should be appointed by politicians. They should be appointed by a totally independent committee consisting of a wide range of lawyers, academics, professionals and ordinary citizens as is the case in much of Europe. Only then can you hope for a more unbiased judiciary and a fair system. As it is, the SCOTUS is totally corrupt and wields too much power.

Trump's trial has nothing to do with interfering with the present election, but rather an indicted criminal trying to interfere with it, who in our opinion should've been disqualified from holding office according to the 14th Amendment section 3 in the first place.
