That looks like a carnival. You should check out the Ga State Fair in Perry, Ga. That's the fair that most of us Georgians prefer.

Yes, agree. The one at Atlanta Motor Speedway is pretty bad, actually. The Ga State Fair in Perry is the one best representative of a real state fair, or the North Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee.

I live by Perry and that one is one I go to every year. Perry Fair is literally 10 times bigger which is crazy cause you expect State Fair to Be better. Do yall remember when State Fair was in Macon Ga 😂. Long time ago!!

When Jacob said you cant train a monkey not to bite, i had to share this story. My grandmother's had a neighbor that had a monkey just like this. I was a teenager at the time. Had a great time seeing the monkey and all of a sudden it bit me in the arm. I was so shocked, didn't draw blood or anything, but definitely was something I never forgot.

Please go to the “Georgia National Fair” in Perry Ga. It’s down by the aviation museum which is also free to visit! It’s definitely more in the vein of “state fair” with the agricultural stuff!

The Georgia National Fair in Perry is the premier fair in this state and it is running now. This is also the fair officially sanctioned by the state government. The state built a beautiful complex with permanent buildings for exhibits and animals.

The Alabama State Fair use to have the largest agricultural area and contest exhibits as well as every type booth from sales to informational and PR = plus they had a huge professional grand show - well know celebrities were even known to be there for it. The midway was also very large and because they were in a stationary location that was primarily used for that purpose they were able to have much better quality in larger rides and shows which returned every year and some things remained thru the year. There was actually a section known as Kiddieland that never moved. There was a large house of mirrors and I think a dark ride there too, that was but for Kiddieland. There was a little pond that had motorized boats, small but I think actually could be used on a real lake and there was a sort of zig zag course you drove it on - I think an adult or responsible person had to be in charge to drive them. There was also a train with a tunnel that circled the kiddie area, a very nice sized train. I think there was a ferriswheel that remained too with other rides - they weren't kid only type rides. Then they would bring in the larger midway rides and side shows in at least twice a year - early October and then in March for Spring Break and back in those days the school kids would get a row of I think 10 tickets, which we folded accordion style and played with carefully especially if we weren't going to get to go but there was one day during the week that school kids could get in free during a certain time period and use those free tickets for rides. The exhibits contest, agricultural, exhibit booths except for some of the animals were under the grand stand. It was huge and on the second floor there might be a few more things but that was mainly for art displays or other things that all the area schools would send from the students - there would be school project contests and the top ones would be up there - it was a big thing. The grand stand was used the rest of the year or at least during racing season for big time racing - at first dirt track and later paved but some of Nascar greats started there. There was also an adjoining building or section used for an indoor arena, use to go there for associational church functions. I also remember non fair time going to exhibit area to see diving shows and gator wrestling. With the shifting of neighborhoods and zones and progress - that area was sold and used for other things --- actually that area was where Vulcan first returned and stood for years before climbing the mountain lol - that was all before my time but history. What we have now has moved back and forth from place to place I know of that current one you went to and one at Oak Moutain it was home to it for many years. They also moved it up to Sept. It is a shell of what it once was - a very small shell and not much more than those fairs that set up for two weeks in parking lots of strip malls or large dirt patch in a city. You would be worn out by the time you finished. Our neighbor worked for the city when I was a child who use to give us free tickets to get in and I was not a big rider but my little sister and I would ride a few things - my two favorite things to look forward to was riding a horse or pony (they did have a stationary horse ride), and hoping to see Smokey Bear in the exhibition hall - he was my first crush. Sadly no phone cameras or non flash indoor cameras so never got a photo with him. So sorry the Alabama State Fair isn't what it use to be - the County Fair in Cullman, AL has some of the contests and such and so do a few of the other smaller area ones.
