Stampin up does not care about customers. They reuse and mix older stamps and call them new. Lots of seniors buy but with the economy most of us have been looking elsewhere to dave. The last catalog was horrible, not easy to read of find items. The shipping and handling is outrageous. I am going to support others that don't care about making all their entire family members millionaires. Bless you and move forward.

I like Gina K designs. Stamping up, retired things too quickly and then you could never get a re-anchor for most of the inks and I think they’re overpriced.. I have tons of stamping ink pads that I can no longer re-ink. I finally quit ordering anything from stamp up.

My friend is a stamping up demonstrator, and would be so excited if I joined but yet every time I show work hard, I’ve made with paper from someplace else she wants to know where I got it!!

I was a demo in the early 2000s and had to resign due to personal challenges. At that time, SU! was somewhat ahead of the curve in the industry. I had a local stamp store from which I purchased stamps (Hero Arts, Judi-Kins, Impression Obsession, Magenta, Art Impressions, Denami Design, etc.). When the Cuddlebug came out, that changed dry embossing--no more brass stencil with a heat box and ball tool! I was doing a SU! workshop with friends and took it with me to show them after the workshop. I took embossing folders and pieces of paper so they could play with it. 4 of the 6 ladies went out and bought one that weekend. SU! didn't stay carrying the Big Shot until a couple years later. I always shared tips for non-SU! product where they could save money, and it was appreciated. I did rejoin SU! as a hobby demo, but the last few years have been disappointing. SU! is not on the cutting edge of the industry, as much as it believes. I will be leaving soon to pursue my own stamping business--I recently purchased the assets of a stamping company and I'm working on some things (along with my full-time job) to get it up and running. Best of luck to you. I've always enjoyed your creativity and know you'll do well. The income will come; it's just going to take a little time to get your for in the door and established. ❤

I looked through this year’s catalogue trying so hard to be excited about something, anything, but no, it feels flat. I have been buying a lot of Tim Holtz as well as several other brands. SU needs to hire some new creative people and spice things up a bit because they are stale.

I have contemplated joining SU because I love crafting, but didn’t know about their rule and never thought they’d prevent me from using other products that are similar to theirs. I love to hear your story. I have been with SU since 1998 and I have never worked the business like you have. I have never earned income from any team members and yet I continue to stay. There are many days I think I want to move on because I want to be able to share from other companies. I use a lot of retired SU products in my videos because I just can’t afford to keep buying and not having a lot of sales. I feel like so many of the people that watch my videos are either a SU demonstrator or already have their own demonstrator. I will be praying for God’s direction for me. First of: I have a lot of respect for all those crafters out there who turn their hobby into a business. Despite the creativitiy and fun, that's still lot of work. Wishing you all the best for your new creative journey! As for me: I'm just a hobby demo from Germany and it was never an option for me to start a business with SU. I am working fulltime, so I don't have that much time to craft anyway. During my time as a crafter, I tried out lots of techniques: Card making and other papercrafts, decoupage, sequin technique, Mixed Media, Upcycling... But I got stuck with paper craft. SU hobby demo life works absolutely fine for me. Though I thought of dropping out from time to time as well. Not because I'm bored by their products, but rather as I oftentimes buy stuff I don't need, just to get my minimum CSV. My stash is getting fuller and fuller, hardly have space for one more pack of paper or an ink pad. Of course, I tried out products of other companies as well. Lots of products from other companies which are well-known in the USA are not even available here. Overseas shipping costs are painful and take ages, might even get lost on the way. The products which are available in Germany simply dont have the quality which SU offers. Especially card stock quality is absolutely useless for stamping. Never found something half as good. And everything matches... I don't know a single company in Europe which has that. Plus, hardly any company offers free shipping here (aside from Amazon) and the SU shipping costs in Europe are fixed at 7,95 € - no matter, how much you purchase )I know the American system is different). However, I totally understand your step and you really sound reliefed that you have taken that brave step 🙂

I have not been happy with Stampin Up for about a year now. I noticed in particular scince Close To My Heart demos were allowed in the standard has dropped. I was with CTMH from 2011 to 2024. Signed up with SU in May to give it a try, as I didn't want to be apart from my community. What I've found since joining SU is that the community is not the same family feel that CTMH provided. My hurt hurts right now, and I've lost the joy for crafting. SU feels more like a business, with so many FB groups sending you daily (sometimes 4 a day from a particular group) posts using the impersonal "at everyone" approach. I'm sorry that you are feeling pushed out. Wishing you peace in whatever decision you arrive at.

@@mariastabler8917 I agree with you about the new catalog. Very disappointed in the format as well. And shipping of package of scoring blades and one roll of tape is still expensive. $7.95! I think SU are such great marketers they know you’ll buy more. I have so much stuff I can’t find it when I need it. I’ll probably have to leave because now live on a fixed income and it’s difficult to buy minimum per month especially when there’s not much offered in new catalogue. And now you have to check to see “online specials” so one will order more. Another marketing ploy I’m not comfortable with nor have the time to do. I do love the paper tho’. It never disappoints and the quality is wonderful. And I think the phone employees are just awesome, kind and helpful when I have to call. Kudos to all of them!

Having been in and out of the SU world a few different times, it's definitely a bubble. I've also been part of design teams with other companies as well over the years. All that having been said, I've never been about to wrap my brain around makers (whether a demo or not) who exclusively use SU products, but I've never been a business builder with SU either. I had been making cards for a couple of years already before discovering SU, so I knew there are sooooo many wonderful products out there from other companies. While I love the quality of SU products, I was never willing to stop using them which is why I knew I would never be more than a hobbyist demo during the times when I have been signed up with SU. As someone who has been a fan of yours for many years, it's been so wonderful watching you spread your creative wings and creating with lots of different brands. For anyone curious about the Creative Vault, it's awesome! I've been a member for several months and love it. I too was a SU demo, but mostly as a hobbyist. However, those of us in that category had to comply with the same minimum sales quotas as the other SU demonstrators (at the time I was doing it). So I was buying products I really didn’t care for just to remain in the business. I’m no stranger to this style of sales and have worked for other companies with a similar business model with an “up line”, and a strong focus on not only direct sales but also encouraging others to join under you. I also felt that other companies are more current in terms of product development and that other companies sometimes have better product versions. Also, the areas have lived in are quite saturated with other SU demonstrators so even if I wanted to start selling I didn’t want to compete with others. So happy since leaving the business and actually more opportunities to sell my makes without restrictions. Best of luck to you!

I love the designer series papers. At the same time I dislike the feeling of being locked in to one product and I am just learning. I love too many other products and the opportunities for creativity they provide.

One thing I’ll miss is the GREAT color coordination of the cardstock and DSP … I bought some DSP at my local craft shop yesterday. Today I checked to see if my SU! Night of Navy CS matches the blue of my non-SU! DSP! Hmmm … it doesn’t exactly but I’ll get used to it 😊

How can I put this without ruffling feathers….. ? or being viewed as rude? SU is not the only crafting company despite their opinion and I think many people (perhaps outside the US) would agree. I personally think their prices are WAY over the top despite the professional manufacture. In my Mother’s day American tools were always well regarded, so I am not one-eyed. I wish u well.

It's really interesting hearing about your journey, I really didn't like the whole small company design team thing, it seems so much more of a mean girls club than a larger company where decisions are more strategic and less personal. I hope you continue to build your brand and business and things keep going well.

I should caveat this with a note that I have zero desire for crafting to be my job, for me it's a hobby I like and if I can get compensated for it that's great but not a requirement, so my situation is different.

Wendy, God does provide. I've been with SU for close to 17 years, but never a demonstrator and it's been wonderful to get their stamps and products. But I've also been free to get other companies' products and THAT has made all the difference. I look forward to watching your upcoming videos' and now can buy from you since I already have a SU demonstrator and couldn't before. Thank you for the Creative Vault free trial, certainly going to try it out. Blessings, Rita.

I'm in the same boat. I left SU end of November 2023. It is a lot of learning and admin work to establish yourself with affiliates and adjust to the changes. The vast majority of products out there is definitely overwhelming so I've been in information overload, but I think I finally found my groove, what works best for my family schedule and how I can still keep it fun. And I have to agree that taking a lot of Rhonda Wade courses have definitely been worth what I spent with training. She's a great resource and always felt like she was my biggest cheerleader!

So I have a full time job besides being an SU demo, and all I would like to do is to break even on my spending with crafting but I feel like in order to do that, I would have to really bump up the project kits, paper party kits, and classes which I just don't have time for and also recruit people, keep the recruited people and push them to recruit people, when does that leave you time to be crafty or creative? That's too much like a job then. I'm not a salesperson, I'm a paper crafter/card maker.

I was a demonstrator for CTMH from 2005-2012ish. While I did okay in sales and did a few classes a year, I never recruited a down line because it was more of a hobby that I loved and I loved teaching others. If they wanted to buy something, great. But I would send them to Michael’s with a coupon rather than sell them the same thing from the catalogue that was overpriced. So basically, I was not the type of person they loved. lol. Around that time I was thinking about starting a KZbin channel. Unfortunately, I had an accident that has left me with severe chronic pain, so it has no longer been possible to do so. Question for you, without giving specifics, what is the range of affiliate commissions that the companies offer? Do you make much from KZbin itself?

Your mention of having a limited stash of inks from various lines was EVERYTHING to me today. I have a main line that includes every colour BUT it doesn't always work for the vision I have. I joined Stampin up as a demonstrator just long enough to get my kit. Previous to that inherited thousands of dollars of merchandise from my cousin. My first demonstrator would not allow me to bring anything that was not SU to the craft classes she had at her home to learn techniques. I am an artist by trade, I was a jeweler and an upcycle person. My media included every medium there is. I was asked to do a demonstration of a project I had made but I could not do it without only using SU, so I told her I couldn’t do it. I went in a search for another demonstrator. I am thankful to her and always will be. Her famous statement is do your best with what you have. So I have the freedom to use up my inherited stuff and all of the new things coming out in other places. She sends a tutorial to her upper level customers and offers prizes for showing what you make on her website, whether it is pure SU or not. I owe her for her kindness and generous it’s to her customers. I am happy where I am, just being a customer and enjoy using up my inheritance with my cousin knowing, his stuff is getting used.

I have been seeing several SU demonstrators leaving the business and I wondered what is going on there. You really cleared that up. I am not , nor have I been an SU dem, but I have been a purchaser for a few years. I have really felt that their products are really good. However, I truly feel they are very narrowly developed and limited. I have signed up for the Vault and look forward to working with this group and following you on YT. Yeah!

I went to Stampin’ Up classes for a few years. I always thought it was expensive. My aunt has been a demonstrator for many years. I bought lots of retired things from her because she said they had to use the newest products. Last week, I texted her about the stapler I got years ago. She said they don’t carry it anymore. I couldn’t even find a video to reassemble it. If anyone has any ideas of where I can find it please let me know. ***new subscriber

The murder case has to do with their daughter and not all the other employees that work for the company. You can not hold that against all the dedicated employees…. I am only a hobbiest and am a demonstrator only for the discount. I do this for myself and the joy of just seeing peoples faces when I make them a card. I use many other companies products as I do not sell stampin up..l I do like their cardstock but lately have been disappointed in their other products. They changed their catalogue not to my liking and I don’t find myself flipping through it as I did previously. I joined mainly to be a part of a group to get out for a night or weekend and just make cards and chat. It is a huge investment and I do use a lot of discontinued product as there is nothing wrong with it and it cost lots of money and I cannot afford to discard something that is perfectly good only to purchase new things EVERY year just to be a part of a group. I am a crafter and card maker and I collect things to put towards what I want to do and don’t intend to throw it out or selling it dirt cheap. Only my thoughts. Upward and onward Wendy!! Cheers 🥂

In this economy it’s hard to justify spending on more products when we probably have enough to create with for yrs! The weak economy & murder trial are impacting SU sales & are unfortunate for the decent people working for this company. We can make our own conclusions as to who all was involved based on recent court hearings. This kind of publicity is brutal for companies to overcome. Maybe board resignations would help rebuild their image. I’m looking forward to using what products I have & purchasing other companies stamps w/o worrying about meeting quarterly minimums!

Stampintology
