Quilts would be such an easy way to use the small cabbage. Especially when you use such nice wools. And as for sewing content being hard to produce because of the time that is required by each project, we love vlogs and studio organizing videos and shopping hauls and outfit look books. Not every video has to be massively taxing. Be sure to take a break!

@@manutd7194 it does! everyone's body is different and gets affected by the spinal curvature in different ways. not everyone has the same degree or direction of curve, for example. and if one hasn't reached adulthood (where the bones stop changing so much), then the curvature will continue changing throughout puberty and with treatment. it's precisely because kids and teens' bodies are still changing that intervention/mitigating measures like a back brace can be done

When you aren’t using your dress form, you can dress it up and put it in front of a window to creep out your neighbors. Or try new outfits. Or use her to make an entire outfit out of tiny scraps of cabbage just to make use of it somewhere. Maybe it would be useful somewhere. Or you can put a melon on top and call it Melon Lord. And i know the feeling, there are only so many times you can watch a cape swoosh on game of thrones or Harry Potter or other without wanting a cape of one’s own. Gotta learn to sew first though, lol.
@jennagrace1534
@jennagrace1534 2 жыл бұрын
That sounds fantastic and vaguely as though you have a dress form that you have put in these scenarios already 😅 as for the not sewing, I know that some people who do cosplay or drag often will just use glue (hot glue, fabric glue, etc) instead of sewing the garments. It probably works best on items that don’t need to be washed very often.
@mcanta2898
@mcanta2898 2 жыл бұрын
@@jennagrace1534 i do not, in fact, have a dress form, just a cryptid vibe. You see a model with which to shape clothes to put in the corner of the room, I see a way to freak out people passing by when they see a victorian/edwardian figure at a window in the corner of their eye. For the cabbage idea I thought instead of having great heaps of cabbage accumulate, little bits that are not shaped right to be useful, or in that awkward size between too small for another use but too big for stuffing could be quickly sown together to form a dress or shirt or something, like a potato sack, not very complex garment, that way you get stuffing cabbage, reusable cabbage, and cabbage dress, for the occasional day you have to look like your fairy godmother was drunk on the job. Nah, i wear my clothes to tatters or not at all, so this has to be practical. Hot glue will probably just annoy me. In truth I can sew, and I don’t mind it, I just cant knot the thread, so it unties real easy. Frankly, I havent tried in a while, so I might get some small pieces of fabric and see if my knotting skills have risen from rock bottom. And I can kinda see what Ms. Bernadette does to tie her thread. Just laziness! Story of my life

I loved the month vlog format even more than a day or weekend vlog - it's almost like a little behind the scenes tour. Like you said, sewing is a hard thing to translate into "content" as we consume it now, and this is beautifully illustrative of the time and effort it takes to do that. I hope you allow yourself to do it again because it was extremely enjoyable!

@lacey9685

Just keep your fingers away from the needle while it's going! It will pull the fabric through on it's own, you just need to guide it, no need for the hands to be too close. And always double check that you've put the foot down! Beginners tend to forget that step and it causes your bobbin to become very angry. Good luck on your sewing journey!

Go slower than you originally think necessary. Most sewing machines have some way of changing the speed (whether it's you taming your lead foot or a slide with multiple arrows indicating slow, normal, fast). Sew some lines on pieces of scrap fabric until you can control your speed if your a little nervous. Cut up holey clothes or ugly pillowcases for practice fabric if you have nothing. Also, don't sew super late, drunk, sick, or otherwise impaired. ;) Have fun sewing!

Love to see there are more young people enjoying and decorating their homes with antiques. We love hunting for them. My husband and I got married 21 years ago and decorated our home with antiques, adding on and changing out as we went along. That earned us many a joke among friends, but all in good fun. Though we do get a lot of compliments about our unique pieces too. We know we don’t fit the mold. Who wants that anyway right? We are the only ones in our friend-groups that have an antique interior and love vintage clothes. My husband and I always joke that we have old souls. We are drawn to craftsmanship, the fantasizing about the backstories, the amount of details. And that goes for furniture, art, lamps, fashion, carpets etc. Love your videos. I love these workroom vlogs so much 🙌 I'm right in the middle of reshuffling my own workroom at the moment so this could not have been timed more perfectly!

Seeing a bit of you sewing on your machine reminded me. Ever since you showed sewing on your machine and not being able to reinforce the seam the way you wanted, I have wondered if you have learned that you can backstich even though you don't have a backstitch function? I hope you have but just in case, you just need to rotate your fabric. Stop where you want your backstitching to start with the needle down & in the fabric. Raise the presser foot & rotate 180 degrees, lower the presser foot, stitch as far as you want then repeat as often as you need. I don't know if I have an old book or just saw pictures from one but I think they even did machine embroidery. Slowly I am sure but still my husband & I were impressed. :)

Another alternative to turning your work around (could be really difficult with larger pieces) is to shorten the stitch length and have very tiny dense stitches at the ends. You'll want to mark and/or count turns on your stitch length knob so you can go back to original settings easily.

@Colour Crazy I actually do that a lot on my modern electric machine, especially when doing very bulky or thin materials, as it helps avoid fabric bunching or jamming under the foot at the end of the seam? (Possibly that may be something that can be fixed anyway by adjusting foot pressure, but I don't yet have the knowhow for that...? 🤔)

I love you and your enthusiasm! Au, if only I was younger, don't worry I'm in my 80's, but your exuberance is contagious and I love your dress code it is beautiful much better than the now look! I have enjoyed learning a lot about sewing from you. My wife sews a lot and I enjoyed it at times helping her, with the exception of the pins on the floor that somehow I always found with my bare feet. Our sewing was for our kids so it was not as complex as yours. What you do with preservation is great. God bless and keep you safe and healthy.

Your description of the split skirt reminded me that my grandmother said she had a similar style skirt the she wore when she would ride her pony to school (mid 1900’s). Folkwear Patterns has/had a Big Sky Riding Skirt pattern that would be similar to what you described.

Bernadette rearranging her stuff in the workroom felt much familiar, I too like to move my stuff around and my aunties and uncles joke about it. It's like playing The Sims, but in real life,and with extremely limited resources.
