10cc are a great English rock band from the 70's. This group was super talented as every member was a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer & producer. "I'm Not In Love" was their biggest hit in 1975 but they had other songs such as "The Things We Do For Love", "Rubber Bullets", "The Dean & I", "The Wall Street Shuffle", "Silly Love", "Life Is A Minestrone", "Art For Art's Sake", "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" etc.

Grew up in a small town. My dad had a work bench in the basement and he was always fixing somebody's toaster or radio or something for them and he never charged anyone for the service. Brings back memories of my childhood. When this song came out in '76 the country was celebrating our bicentennial, many parties and just an overall good patriotic feeling. Everybody seemed much happier back then. Even though I think that year my Dad was laid off from work from a coal miner strike in NEPA and we were on food stamps, and got the good 'ole blocks of cheese ...it was still a great childhood.

The things we do for love sounds simple, but 10cc was known for their complex vocal layering which is a trademark sound and is clearly present in this song with more listens. An excellent number you haven't heard from 10cc is "I'm Mandy, Fly Me". Another piece that certainly didn't make it onto hit radio, but was on FM "album rock" stations was "Feel the Benefit (Pts. 1, 2 & 3)" which certainly contains a message appropriate for this moment in time. I think its around 10 plus minutes long, but you would do yourselves a favour by listening to it.

I may be the only one who thinks this way, but I can easily imagine The Beatles singing this song (or one that's very similar). John singing the lead with Paul joining in the vocals along with George and Ringo doing what they all do best: Singing songs about love.

This song really grabs me. I love the chord change coming out of the "oooh you make me love you..." part and then another great chord change after "...and you're feelin like a part of you is dying." They also shift from a dreamy kind of sound with the organ to a drier sound emphasizing the guitars. You didn't hear many songs like that on the radio when it came out.

Hi, you two! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. I think 10cc is one of the best and most unique bands of all time with so many talented members. You have so much more of them to discover. Another one with love in the title is 'Silly Love'. A lot more power in that one. One of the best songs of 10cc. I believe it was done after Godley(drums) and Creme(Guitars, keys) had left the group to form Godley and Creme. I believe the drummer is Paul Burgess and Graham Gouldman(bass) with Eric Stewart (guitars) and lead vocals. 10 cc was one of the most innovative of bands in their earlier years and definately one of my favourites. Please continue to be safe and have a great weekend.

I think I was a preteen when this song first came out, fast forward to recent years like about 3 years ago this song came on the radio and my husband was about the change it, I told him to leave the radio alone, I haven't heard this song in a long time. Of course, he didn't know who the band was, so I told him it's 10CC and it's a good song too. I had to remind him that he heard their other song in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie "I'm not in love" you reacted some months ago. It was a slow song the kid was listening to on his headphones in the first half of the movie. It's a good song and I'm glad you enjoyed the song too! ☮ and 💕

Im 54 and ive been dealing with depression for the last six years and I had checked myself into a mental health facility a few years ago and there was a younger woman in there that i became friends with and for some reason she knew this song and we would sing it everyday and now whenever i hear this song i think of her.

You've now done four 10cc songs (I'm not in love, Dreadlock Holiday, Rubberbullets and The Things You Do For Love.) As you seem to be enjoying this band and because they sound so different each song, I suggest you consider the following next: The Wall Street Shuffle, Art for Arts Sake and (my favourite) The Dean and I. A couple of deep cuts I'd suggest are Somewhere in Hollywood (you'll adore this) and The Worst Band in The World (very clever...maybe too clever).

Two of the band members formed Godley and Creme in the 80s. You should check the songs like Wedding Bells, Under your Thumb, Cry and others.

This song reminds me of bowling in junior leagues on Saturday mornings around 1976 and hearing this coming out of the jukebox in the bar.

@@capcolombie3834 What am I on about? Well first , why be rude? Second, they had 12 songs that were on the charts in the UK but only three were Chart Toppers. A chart topper is a hit. Rubber Bullets" (1973), "I'm Not in Love" (1975) and "Dreadlock Holiday. And this song which was #1 here in Canada. Out of 11 albums 4 isn't "loads". And three of these songs ( not rubber bullets ) are exceptionally good.

@@VicMikesvideodiary If you think that only "chart toppers" are hits - then a lot of very famous and legendary bands and singers did not "have many hits" in the US. According to Billboard - many famous artists never even had a Hot 100 #1 hit. Bruce Springsteen for one did not have a #1 song. Neither did James Brown. Creedence Clearwater Revival? Nope. They had 5 songs hit #2 though. Bob Dylan is another that did not have a #1 hit. Try and be informed before you make incredibly silly statements in public.

Earlier I was playing the bass line from Dreadlock Holiday and then you post this so ... GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!! lol. Some may write this off as a typical pop ballad/love song, but it's WAY more than just that. Love it, it sounds so good!!!

Thanks, Squad! A super-talented band.. and they were also amazing live.. don't know if you've already done it, but "I'm Not in Love".. is great... (you keep saying this is "slow" which makes me thing haven't heard "Not in Love"...) mainly a very talented BAND... appreciate your reactions...

Bassist Graham Gouldman was a prolific and highly successful songwriter in his own right, particularly in the 60's/'70's. He wrote hits for the Yardbirds, (whose members included Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page), Hermans Hermits, the Hollies, Ohio Express, among many others. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014.

Music of the 70's was so amazing . If you want to see a later version of the singers of 10CC, check out the video of "Cry" by Godley and Creme.

"THE BEATLES OF THE SEVENTIES" - a warranted and deserved epitet in my opinion. This was MY BAND before I got into new wave in a big way. But his was my least favourite hit of theirs. I like the light rock they o so well with all the transitions. I know Jay and Amber love themselves a transition. So that said try Art for Art Sake and/or Silly Love next - Silly Love live was a real live - superb guitar playing.

Always loved this song. Parts of it remind me of the theme to Welcome Back Kotter…This song would have made a great theme song to a 70s sitcom also.

I can see that. It has similar rhythms as the lyrics are delivered. I get a blend of ELO, Little River Band, and Supertramp. Definitely a song that has the 1970's all over it!

I loved this song in high school. Funnily enough, it reminded me of an unrelated song, “Did you Boogie with your baby in the back seat of the movie show?” It’s a fun song.

YEEEEESSSSS!!!! Turns out I remember 95% of this song even though I haven't heard it in YEARS! A total knee-jerk reaction. I just started singing along. I wasn't even trying. It just came out. And the few words I didn't know, were ones I never knew.

10cc are an immensely clever band. So many more to experience. Try "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" or for an absolute treat "Feel the Benefit". Then check out Godley and Creme who were two of the members of 10cc who left to make records of their own. "Under Your Thumb" is a haunting story. Well worth a listen. Much love from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
