Why not learn it? Welsh is one of the prettiest languages ever, and there are yt videos teaching Welsh to speakers of Spanish by the same interviewer from this video! I am a late discoverer of your lovely videos. A diolch fawr for all your efforts to promote the beautiful Welsh language. I think I would be able today to write my comments in Gymraeg but it would take me hours! - This said, my remark: the printed Welsh part of this "Street Welsh" comes and goes so fast from the screen that, barely have you reached reading half the text, woof ! it's gone on to the next exchange of dialog. Perhaps more time should be given to us humble but ardent learners. Why not a few seconds more before the spoken dialog goes on to the next part of the conversation... Again, a big thank to you and to all who promote the magnificent Welsh language. I can't wait to be able to say that I am 100% fluent!

Welsh is very easy to pronounce and learn, and its pronunciation is similar to Dutch / Norse / Icelandic pronunciation - all these languages have easy category 1 pronunciation like English, and the accents are easy to imitate too, and I highly recommend learning them 2gether with Gothic and Norwegian etc!

That’s true, because Welsh is a category 1 language like English / Dutch / Norwegian / Breton / Cornish / Manx etc, whereas Irish & Scottish Gaelic are both category 3 languages spelling-wise, but I am learning these two little by little, as I am learning all the modern Celtic languages and all the Norse / Germanic / Nordic languages - I highly recommend learning Welsh 2gether with Norse / Icelandic / Dutch / English / Norwegian / Gothic / Faroese / Danish / Breton / Cornish / Irish and maybe even Forn Svenska / Manx / Scottish Gaelic etc, as they are all so gorgeous and way too pretty not to know, and I recommend learn languages like Irish and Scottish Gaelic little by little, as they are a bit complicated, so learning the pronunciation rules and sounds and memorizing the spelling can feel quite overwhelming sometimes, but they are so pretty!

Welsh is a beautiful language. I just learned how to pronounce 'llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch', but now I'm enamored at the beauty of the Celtic languages. You just don't hear those sorts of sounds in other languages.

Actually, they sound very similar to Dutch and Norse and Icelandic and Gothic and English etc, as Celtic languages have been influenced by Norse and other Germanic languages a lot, so they have very similar sound patterns and sounds and pronunciation rules - I highly recommend learning Welsh / Breton / Cornish etc 2gether with Norse / Icelandic / Dutch / English / Norwegian / Gothic / Faroese / Danish / Forn Svenska / Irish etc, as they are the prettiest languages ever created, and they are way too pretty not to know!

Fantastic language....its so flowy when spoken fluently. And some words just sound lush! Gets a bad rap because of centuries of the Ingerlish folk poisoning people's minds. 1:30 wait, what the hell!! 1993 = mil nou nou tri. In Catalan, mil means "1 thousand", "nou" means 9 and tres is "three". So 1993 in Welsh almost sounds like saying "one thousand nine nine three" in Catalan :O

From what I understand, the Celtic languages have a surprising number of latinate loan words, some, like in this case, easier to spot than others.

You haven't tried to learn anything at all! The Welsh spelling is very simple and logical, quite the opposite of the English one, which is one of the most nonsensical among all the languages of the world. What is surprising in Welsh spelling? That w is a vowel, ok, it's pronounced "oo". Problem solved. Cwmwl is pronounced "koo-mool". As simple as that. To me (a French guy), the English spelling and pronunciation are a nightmare. Have to check a dictionary to know how to pronounce every new word I see written. In Welsh I've never had any problem...

@@gerald4013 I agree! My mother's English so I never had an issue learning the language, however objectively, English phonology makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I've also started learning Welsh and its spelling and pronunciation are far more straightforward and logical than those of English.

English has the most logical and professional spelling, which is why English words look AND sound gorgeous and professional and serious, English and Dutch have the easiest and lightest spelling ever, which is easy to type on any device!

Welsh is gorgeous like Norse and Icelandic and Gothic and English and Dutch and Gothic, and its spelling works well for it, and it’s pretty easy to learn the sounds and to get used to the spelling, and it’s very easy to spell Welsh words, as it doesn’t have many words with diacritics and accents, unlike French / Spanish / Portuguese etc, which have a spelling that’s more complicated with lots of words that have accents and diacritics on vowels, and English also has words that look like Welsh words, for example, the English words awe / glyph / sweet etc look similar to Welsh words, it’s just that Welsh has more Ws instead of Us and more Ys instead of Is in spelling, which gives it a very different aspect at first sight, but if one analyzes the words carefully, one will notice that they aren’t that different from Germanic and Latin words, and Welsh reminds a lot of Norse and Icelandic and Dutch and also Gothic and English - I highly recommend learning these gorgeous languages 2gether, as they are way too pretty not to know!

Welsh is considered one of the oldest attested languages in Europe (with literature dating back to the 7/8th century) and was likely present in the British Isles long before English arrived from the Anglo-Saxons.

@@henriashurst-pitkanen8735 yep....the Phonecian alphabet Welsh uses was introduced by the Romans in the 1st century B.C.E. (Coelbren was used prior to that) The English Saxons were illiterate in It until they got to Britain. They still used Germanic Runes well into the late 5th century! Some say it was even the druids who created it for them! As the real history behind the English coming to Britain comes from them being invited over by Vortigern. Not Conquest as some idiots say. Btw, Welsh is the oldest Venaculiar language in Europe.

@@maxim9280 You'll find many similarities in Welsh and English. Which is weird seeing how they are have apparently different origins. Welsh in its current form predates English by about 600 years. (The alphabet they both use) Another words....its most likely the other way around! After all....it wasn't the Welsh who tried destroying another people's language for over 800 years.

The similarities are due to words coming into the Welsh language from English. The “pure” Welsh words tend to be very different. E.g. “cysgu” = to sleep, “mynd”=to go.
