I would say you are demonstrating quite well the reason milder razors are better. You get a more comfortable, relaxing, nick-free shave and the same end result, because the more 'efficient' or 'aggressive' razors do a better job for that first pass of hair reduction, but the three passes mean the milder razor catches up. Same outcome, but more pleasant process. Thanks for the video Mark.

Steve, that is a very well made point. The hare and the tortoise springs to mind. 😀

Hi Mark- Great comparison shave; thank you! Great feedback on both of these razors. I was surprised that the results were as close as they were; very interesting, indeed! Well I hope the shade in the garden has provided a restful and relaxing area for a solid nap. Enjoy the rest of the week and see you on Friday. Be safe and be well. All the best, my friend!

It is such a nice scent, Grant. The birth handle is very nice to look at and hold. Lovely razor.

Looks like a lovely shave. You can’t go wrong with either razor but I like the fishing rod handle better. It still amazes me that you get every bit of lather off each time you shave.

A great and obviously nonbiased side by side shave, Mark. The DE89 R89 showdown you alluded to is a very interesting prospect indeed. I do hope that you enjoyed your 40 winks and that the week treats both you and your mum well.

I know how it feels to get zapped by that late afternoon slump combined with summer heat. I don't blame you for catching 40 winks on the patio..It's been so hot and humid here that even being in the shade is like roasting in a oven...

Hi Mark, sorry to say not much sunshine here in the southern Aus, middle of the winter now and most days don't see any Sun. I actually prefer the Reserve base over the Excelsior base, the new Omnibus base is top stuff. Great comparison and confirms the reports I've seen that the Rocca is a more aggressive/efficient/blade feel style razor than a DE89/R89, love that Rocca handle though.👍😎🤟
@FriendshipShaving2 жыл бұрын
I thought you always had sunshine in Australia 😁 I must admit I'm not up to date with the B&M bases; I think there was a Glissant at some point, too. This comparison surprised me in how very close the finished shave was, but the feel was quite different. All the best.

Another Nice comparison shave Mark and another surprise. Was thinking like you the Rocca would show a significant step in efficiency. Take care.

These last couple of shaves have been very surprising. I guess it comes down to whether you like the bit extra blade feel and can afford a stainless razor. Big thanks to Kevy for this loan - it has been really worthwhile.

I never used the R89. I own exactly the same Rocca as you have. It is a really beautiful razor. I didn't knew before that the handle is not made of full steel. It is much lighter than expected. (Handle is hollow) And the razor is pretty much head-heavy. And i do not find it efficient enough, for me. What is pretty sad... I love BBS. So i always think about selling it. But on the other hand is that it is such a beauty and really nice to touch it...

Hi Jens, it is indeed a very beautiful and well made razor; I think the handle really makes it special. It is so nice to hold and to look at! 😀

Nice comparative shave. For me, less blade feel is always a smoother shave. I find that blades don't make that much of a difference.
@FriendshipShaving2 жыл бұрын
I'm beginning to come around to that idea, more and more - although I do not like a positive blade exposure. Both the DE/R89 do give a terrific shave.

Glad i watched this comparison and a few of your other vids. Canadian 4 years into traditional shaving, i went with the R89 twist and its the nicest feeling and looking razor i think i could have bought for under 100 CAN$. I can tell although its more mild with kess blade feel you can appreciate the smoothness and forgivingness of the R89 and its my daily driver. I also have the EJ 316 for more aggression but its not a daily driver for me (the weight of the twist R89 is hard to beat!). Cheers from the great white north! PS, what are your 3 favourite razors of the many you have used as a clear enthusiast? 👌🤘👍
@FriendshipShaving Жыл бұрын
Hi Adam. Thanks for sharing your story of the razors you use. My favourite three razors do change from time to time, as I have a lot of razors to keep the channel varied and hopefully interesting. So, I would say my The Edwin Jagger DE89, which is much the same as the Muhle R89; An Ever Ready Streamline Razor, although the 1912 is also really superb and one of the Gillette adjustable razors and I'd probably go for my Toggle, which I love! Cheers 👍

@FriendshipShaving thanks for you're reply mate! I just received via mail the Rocca with the full stainless handle, this beast has got to be the best thing I have now in my den just wow👌 likely the last razor I will want (I cannot afford the titanium ones but love SS razors). Luckily pulled the trigger on it late so the v4 head is flawless, not sure if there is a better SS razor on the market at this price point. Bought it after seeing Kevy and yourself using it in several videos. It's great ! Happy Holidays from Canada 🤘

The DE89 v R89 sounds interesting. I have the Gillette heritage and wonder how it compares with the R89. You have so many razors and soaps to review it’s almost like work. Hope you enjoyed the nap, I like acshot of whiskey before one.
@FriendshipShaving2 жыл бұрын
Very enjoyable work indeed 😀 Yes, the DE89 vs the R89, and comparing that to the Heritage or the KCG razor, would be good. I didn't imagine making quite so many razors from Kevy's four, that he loaned me. It's fantastic 😁 Whisky and nap - you live the good life buddy. Excellent.

Hi Sig. It is rather a shame they don't. I have noticed the make a stainless steel R41 Grande, so you'd think they might do something similar with the R89. I have an ATT razor (colossus handle with an old 2015 M2 head. Any good to you? Message me or drop me an email please, buddy.

@@FriendshipShaving I've written Mühle a mail about it. Sadly, they have no plans to make the R89 in an SS version at this point. I'll sent you a mail this evening... Thanks Buddy!!

I had an annoying experience at one of Muhle partner stores last week. You must have noticed there is no mention of the model name on their boxes. The lovely ladies at the store could not tell me the names of any of their products. All the box say is Hans-Jürgen Müller GmbH, Stützengrün. No model name, no handle name, no product number, not even a picture of a windmill, nothing. Is it too much to ask to put the words Muhle, Rytmo, R220 SR. I really don't understand selling products in white boxes with no markings.
@FriendshipShaving2 жыл бұрын
Wow, that is an awful experience! It sounds very odd indeed and how can they possibly not know the names of the products. Very strange.

I like the look of the Simpson brush but it is, at regular price, a heck of a lot of money for a resin brush, with a synthetic knot! Although, if it were a 24mm I would save up and buy one. I feel that anything bigger than that is too large for me. Mind you, never say never! 😀

HERE IS AN EASY WAY TO DO IT MY FRIENDs" Do any Pucks or bar Soaps out there? You can mix and match old Soaps? to fit in any Mugs or Cups? Like (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arko Sticks. Just to name a few of them ?) Cut the bar soap up on a paper plate, pour the soap, shavings and chunks from your plate into a mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, microwave your soap and cups or mugs? put your paper plate under your cup in case it bubbles out of your cup? for a minute or so? If it foams up, STOP. The water keeps it from burning itself up. (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy, does it? Let cool don't want to Crack the Mugs or Cups you're using? (You just want it to Congeal in your Mug or Cup') it is very hot and watery'''''. let it cool in PLACE'. after it cools, put it in a Sunny Window, until the Soap hardens? When using your soaps, use Dry Brush Less Water. It thickens the soap, making it easier to use on your face. (You can use any Soaps Out there you like??) Save your Money, spend it on your wife, don't listen to the shave Mafia. I have been doing this for the last 20 years. It saves me time and Money in these Inflationary Times Wheelchair Larry Happy New Year. @@FriendshipShaving
