Another item that I carry just in case is a small potable jump start battery pack. The ones with lithium ion batteries are small and powerful and can be bought at reasonable prices now.

As always, a clear, precise subject by a Corvette master. Lyle is always gracious and ready to help with questions. The only thing I might add to his "road kit" would be two shift cable grommets available from C&S corvettes. Ask me how I know that you might need one or both of these grommets. When my new to me C5 would not start, I checked everything I could think of. It acted like the neutral safety switch had failed. I called Lyle and he knew just what the problem was. He sent me two grommets which were simple to install once I got the car on a lift. The rear shift cable had disintegrated from age and the front one was not much better. A simple fix for an issue that would be difficult on the road. Thanks for all of your assistance. Please keep up the podcasts and helping us keep these great old machines road ready.

Loved the video, Great Advice........Speaking as someone who was once stranded in the Nevada desert between Winnemucca and Battle Mountain: Having basic supplies with you is a great help. Fred the wrecker driver was our guardian angel!! On Serpentine belts: Buy an American made high quality replacement belt. Install the new one on your Corvette. You have just confirmed that you bought the correct belt (and it was time for a new one anyway). Put the sleeve on the old belt (keeps the correct part number handy) and store it in your Corvette with your kit. Disaster averted!

This is an excellent subject Lyle! Love the way you prioritized what one should travel with! FWIW, I do "travel" with my Vette, well, at least every other year. That's when I've gone to Bowling Green. That's a thirteen hour one-way trip for me. FWIW, I also like to do these long trips with a fellow Corvette Club or two or three. There's strength in numbers, or at the bare minimum, I like to know that if anything untoward happens to any of us that we're not alone. I'm going to do a print-out of your suggestions to have as my minimum number of items to travel with and then add my own personalized items to it. Save the Wave🙋‍♂️

Welding gloves are great for unexpected car work. Your cuffs will not get as dirty. Always have a small canvas painters tarp in your kit. I’ve found a big pair of channel lock pliers to be helpful, two in some cases. Only offering additions.

Good video - potential additions, First Aid kit, knife or all in one tool, small role of electrical or duct tape, some type of personal protection The reason I bring up the knife is I ran over a grocery store plastic bag and it got sucked into the engine compartment of my Mustang and wrapped itself around the alternator and push the serpentine belt off. Needed a knife to cut it off. Lesson learned if at all possible do not run over ANYTHING!

@csvette
@csvette 3 жыл бұрын
Geof, I am operating under the assumption that most (new to the hobby) Corvette people do not have the skill to replace a serpentine belt on the side of the road and probably don't own any breaker bars, either. I also wanted to try to keep the footprint of this "kit" small enough to fit in the rear compartments without taking up luggage space. Lyle
